No audio from an imported, older project

Eric-Hiltebeitel wrote on 1/19/2021, 1:42 PM

I had nearly finished creating a home movie of a trip that we had taken in 2017, but I was using (Sony) Vegas Studio 8.0 at the time and it kept crashing. Today, I upgraded to Movie Studio 17.0 Platinum and opened my old project in the new software. The video, text and transitions came through perfectly, but there is no audio. What happened?

The video was shot on a Panasonic SDR-H18, so nothing especially fancy or custom. The video converted just fine, but why no audio? (And, unless I'm missing a button somewhere, I don't believe I have the sound muted.) The audio track doesn't contain the usual sound frequency lines that you normally see.

Can you give here a screenshot of your total timeline with all its tracks in that project

Sure. Hopefully, you can see this.

I am a new user with Movie Studio, so I'm hoping there's a simple solution here.

j-v wrote on 1/20/2021, 5:42 AM

I don't see the right part the screen, but maybe it i better to ask:
Is there probably a lower audiotrack that is not visible now?

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure what you're asking for. Can you explain? I am able to hear sound on all other applications on my PC.

Due to reason explained here, it's possible now not able to read correctly.

Thank you very much for your help. I really appreciate it.

I gather from what I read that I have to re-import all of the audio. But it also seems like that isn't possible in Movie Studio 17.0 Platinum for which I just spent the money to upgrade. The "fix" for this seems to be only available in Vegas Pro 18. Vegas Pro 18 is the software being used in the how-to video, but some of the features (e.g. Otter Import tool) being shown in the video don't exist in Movie Studio. Is that right or am I missing something?

It would be wonderful if there was a way to apply a fix to the audio that is already in my completed project. Or, do I have to go back to the source files, convert them and re-import them - essentially, do the project over?

@Eric-Hiltebeitel - can you share one of SDR-H18 media sample to Google Drive / Dropbox / Wetransfer etc ? - maybe one of us can try experiment and able to give suggestion how to deal with this.

Thanks again for your help, but I decided to just bite the bullet and downloaded a converter. I will convert the files to a format that's supported. It's annoying and I probably would have chosen a different software if I would have understood this ahead of time. But I do appreciate the help that you (and others) offered. Be well.
