For future forum searchers. I just upgraded from Vegas 19 to 21, and now had this problem. I have a GTX105 TI (desktop).

I've tried to follow every step in this thread, but to no avail. I'd downloaded the NVIDIA cleanup tool, restarted, installed each of 537 and 552 (doing a clean install as I do so). Nothing worked - I'd get a black screen with just a single caption layer flashing. If I disabled the GPU acceleration it did work, but the quality is so bad, glitchy and so full of noise artefacts that it is useless.

I then noticed that the flashing caption layer appeared in OTHER projects. At this point it felt my install was somehow corrupted. I therefore went back to factory settings - you do this by pressing and holding shift and control when launching the program, and then checking the "delete cache" checkbox.

I then tested a simple project - it worked! I then loaded my problem project - instant collapse. After this, dragging in a single video clip resulted in a corrupted preview. The whole app was broken again.

Then started a painfully long process of fault finding. Was it a corrupt project? I went back to an earlier version, and that broke previews again. I then tried to use the same effects in the problem project in a new project. They seemed to work fine. Then I went back to the first version of my problem project - and that DID work. Something was corrupt.

One effect in the problem project - Glint - got funky as I was working on it. When I'd change an animate parameter, the whole animate section would vanish. I'd need to relaunch it to make one more adjustment and then it would vanish again. I eventually got the project done but it was painful... indeed this was one of the reasons for upgrading to 21, I'd heard it was more stable.

Vegas 19 still plays that project. I did get problems with glitched renders - I think related to the glint effect bug - but I eventually found some settings that worked. But in 21 it seems that this bug corrupts not just that project in 21 but the entire install.

That doesn't exactly instill confidence.

I'll try 21 on a new project and see if the whole thing behaves better.

@Guy-Rowland If there's a particular problem with a particular Fx "Glint" corrupting VEGAS could you make a thread just on that? No other users are reporting particular problems with NVIDIA drivers at the moment so I don't think it has anything to do with the rest of this thread.

(I used a GTX 1050 mobile GPU with 19-22. I've never heard of Glint.)

This is also related to the NVIDIA since it works without the GPU acceleration. Also I found this thread on a forum search as it matched my symptoms well.

I did just try saving a version without the glint instances, but it was still not playing in 21, just flashing between two frames. However at least it didn't corrupt the whole install this time, so it could still be related to the glint effect initially, but has now spread some other nastiness to the project as a whole.

It's going to be near-impossible to track down I think - was it specifically glint that caused the problem or was it the vegas animate controls that could have happened to any plugin? No idea. But the GPU acceleration is definitely a factor.

@Guy-Rowland This issue is about the preview window not updating when Fx are added with NVIDIA mobile GPUs. I personally reported it to NVIDIA and thanks to VEGAS and NVIDIA engineers working together it was resolved quite a while ago.

There was never any corruption of VEGAS installations or projects or artifacts. Please create a new thread as it's a different issue but one worth trying to track down.
