Can you try the suggested fix?

(Intel 3rd gen i5@4.1GHz, 32GB RAM, SSD, 1080Ti GPU, Windows 10) Not now used with Vegas.

Yes it's NVIDIA can you try the fix?

So I changed the Hardware Decoder from Intel QSV to NVIDIA NVDEC, closed it, reopened it and it wouldn't load up my big project.

andyrpsmith wrote on 8/10/2019, 6:31 PM

Did you also have the check box higher up checked to enable hardware decoding for supported formats?

Yeah, that is checked

If it still will not load you may need to post the problem with Magix

If I uninstall Vegas 17, can I go back to my original project with VP 16 or will my project be deleted? I have been working on this project for 6 months so it's crucial that I don't lose it.

andyrpsmith wrote on 8/10/2019, 6:44 PM

As long as you have'nt saved the project as a V17 project it will be fine with V16. Best not to uninstall V17 just yet. V16 runs alongside V17 just fine.

So I can open up Vegas 16 without uninstalling 17?

andyrpsmith wrote on 8/10/2019, 6:50 PM

No problem, I have V13, V14,V15 &V16 installed and all open and run fine.

Try to disable timeline thumbnail display. On complex projects where a lot of thumbs are being drawn on the timeline, Vegas 17 can hang while trying to load them. It eventually does load, but performance isn't good. Disabling thumbs, or reducing the number displayed, usually helps.

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

Laptop:

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo 32GB (9980HK CPU, RTX 2060 GPU, dual 4K touch screens, main one OLED HDR)

daniel-t2081 wrote on 8/10/2019, 7:01 PM

2 questions:

1: How would I go about doing that?

2. Would I have to save my project with those changes on VP 17? Because saving on Vegas 17 will erase my original project on 16, correct?

fr0sty wrote on 8/11/2019, 1:09 AM

Go to preferences>Video>Thumbnails to be shown in video events. Disable them (you can also try changing it to just head, or just tail, etc... to reduce the number shown on the timeline, but still keep some).

2. Just save another copy of the same project, like "my project v17 version.veg", then, as long as this fixes your issue, you can continue editing on 17 safely without compromising your project in 16, which you'll have as a backup.

@daniel-t2081

@Grazie @andyrpsmith

I have not experimented much with Vegas 17, but I had at least one hang/crash, and that was when I dropped and try to play for the first time an HEVC file from a gopro 6.

Vegas I presume went to the internet to "activate the codec license" as I noticed a popup saying the activation of HEVC was successfull and then Vegas 17 hung forever. Afterwards, I was able to  use HEVC after a restart without an issue. So you may have the same issue, is your internet OK? Maybe your anti virus is blocking.

Just make a new project and have one HEVC file in there and let the system crash, Restart and try again, I suspect there is something wrong with the VEGAS process timing and the first time HEVC enabling...

Enabling a license via a server takes time and maybe the Vegas is timing out to soon leading to a hang/crash.

But this is all speculation on my part, I could be wrong of course.

@bitman - Thanks for your feedback. As to licensing, it shows at MAGIX.COM as part of “My Products” as fully licensed. So it’s not that. Yes it took a few seconds to load a codec thingy, normal there, and off I went.

@fr0sty - I’ve done Thumbnails On/Off and VP17 still crashes.

IMHO this is not a stable Build - for me. It’s not my rig, and you’ll know that 😆!

So, my experience thus far: Projects in VP16 work but in VP17 are either slow and lethargic or crash. Unlike @Former user VP17 does open the last used Project, which is something I suppose. And the constant, constant Project Media Thumbnails needing to be refreshed takes too much time to allow any Creative decisions.

Here’s hoping the next build will bring results. 😢.

vkmast wrote on 8/11/2019, 3:58 AM

To clarify for others, by licensing @bitman most likely means section 10 in Nick's invaluable main FAQ.

Grazie wrote on 8/11/2019, 4:21 AM

@vkmast - So I’m licensed. And yes that’s invaluable information from Nick’s Post.

@Grazie “Unlike @JN_VP17 does open the last used Project, which is something I suppose.”

Its now working correctly, I did nothing to fix it.

RE: Nicks section 10 ... theres a very useful script, I always use it when a new version number of VP lands, it activates all of the codec licences together. Not certain, but I think someone from Vegasaur may have supplied it. Altarvic.

@vkmast Yes thats it. This is Nicks link ... Altarvic https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/proxy/525f68e15af826dd8d42/?link=http%3A//vegasaur.com/bin/scripts/Activate%20Renderers.cs

vkmast wrote on 8/11/2019, 5:47 AM

@Former user Nick seems to have removed the link to the script from section 10 in his update 10/17/2017.

@altarvic ?

Grazie wrote on 8/11/2019, 5:47 AM

@vkmast & @Former user - Does that mean I need to purchase a 3rd party Script to get VegasPro to install correctly?

vkmast wrote on 8/11/2019, 5:50 AM

@Grazie I don't think so. I have VP 17 installed correctly. Nick's section 10 instructions have worked for me so far.
