Text to Speech Not working

Whenever I insert text to speech in the box and clicking play or insert I get the same error: "An error occurred which cancelled the synthesis operation.

Reason: Error

Error code: ServiceTimeout

Message: "USP error: timeout waiting for the first audio chunk.""

I've tried logging out/in again from the HUB, Closing/Opening the app, Rebooting the computer.

Tech support: Please don't tell me to do any "advanced workarounds", just fix the bug as I've done nothing different and have been using this specific feature for several months without issue.

Also, is there not a way to send a bug report?

I'd also like an extension on my subscription as I'm paying for something that simply doesn't work!

Apparently I can't even upload a jpg of the error message.

We believe the problem with Text to Speech is related to a specific Windows Update that recently was pushed out. We have reproduced the problem and are investigating.

The issue has been acknowledged by Microsoft and other developers who are using this Microsoft implementation of Text to Speech have also complained about this problem. Our Microsoft contact has told us they are working on a solution.

Start > Settings > Update & Security > View Update History > Uninstall Updates > right click on Security Update for Microsoft Windows Update (KB5018410) > Uninstall

Another (temporary) workaround which works fine:

Disable TLS 1.3

1) open the run window (press windows key + R)

2) Type inetcpl.cpl in Run and press ENTER

3) In Internet properties, got the advanced tab, scroll down all the way and uncheck TLS 1.3

4) Restart your PC

NOTE 1: this way you do not have to uninstall the "offending" KB5018410.

NOTE 2: as soon as Microsoft has a fix (they already have one for server OS) enable TLS 1.3 again and (restart); or enable again if you do not use text to speech anymore.

Just try following yours and here in my PC, I found the 'Use TLS 1.3 (experimental)' under Security, and strangely it is already unchecked in my system.

We have been informed that Microsoft has a fix for this problem. They will be rolling it out in a Windows update...but I do not know when that will actually occur. If we find a manual install for a hotfix, we will post it. Until then, please use one of the workarounds to access this feature.

Thank you for pushing them. I just uninstalled the patch as described by @set and text to speech is working again as before.

@set your pc may have a different OS, I think you have windows 10 (with the "offending" KB5018410), I do not have KB5018410 installed as this is likely for windows 10, I do have KB5018427 installed on windows 11 which I presume has the same issue; I did not uninstall KB5018427 but deactivated TLS 1.3 in the menu as shown; your menu is probably different in windows 10.

For security reasons I re-activated TLS 1.3. I will wait until MS fixes the issue.

A remark: After uninstalling the Patch it is important tro change the settings for automatic updates and stop updates for 7 days. Otherwise the patch will be automatically installed again by Windows. (Just happened to me)

Sadly, for me, when I do this the patch in question (KB5018410 ) isn't there. Yet I can find it in the Windows Update History so it was installed on 13/10/22. Damn you Microsoft! It doesn't seem to have an optional uninstall for this particular patch.

@Simplest2remember ClipChimp that comes with Windows has the same text to speech engine, and it also has speech to text. You have to pay for premium features but those features appear to be free and without restriction. I don't use the software though, just tested it when it came out so you'd have to confirm

Create your text to speech in clipchimp, save and bring it into Vegas (for now)

Right chaps, this took me a LONG time to fix, so I want to maximise all the karma coming my way...

My laptop was W10 21H2

I upgraded it to W10 22H2

Job done (I thought everything was automatically kept current in windows 10. Not so. Run Winver and find out)

I've updated to Windows 10 22H2 and the TLS 1.3 is not checked, I do not have the option to uninstall the KB5018410 patch. Any other ideas?
