Upgrade Bait & Switch to Vegas Pro Edit 18

surferj45 wrote on 8/9/2020, 10:07 PM

When I open my Vegas Pro Edit 17 I get a popup that says I can upgrade to Vegas Pro 18 (not the "Edit" version) which includes Sound Forge 14 for $199. But when I go to purchase it the version changes to Vegas Pro Edit 18. Why won't they honor this original popup and give me Vegas Pro 18 for $199? See attached photo of the popup.

Yes, it says 'Pro' in the image with the Mustang. But in the description below, it's referencing the Pro Edit version. They have different colors for each version.

Reported as clarification needed.

It was an error in the marketing copy. Corrections are being made.

surferj45 wrote on 8/10/2020, 10:22 AM

There's no mention of the Edit version, The logo color means nothing to me. They sent me this ad to purchase the Vegas Pro version for $199, I fully expect they will honor their own advertisement and not squirm out of the deal.

@surferj45 Obviously it was a mistake from the marketing team, however I believe they should've honor it for you since you received it.

They should honor it for the reason that I've been a loyal customer and user of Vegas Pro for years and will continue to be. It's just good policy.

You should contact Magix directly to ask them to honor it- this is primarily a peer to peer forum.

They should honour it. Here is what I got this morning.

Bottom left (Magix) Update Notifier message, note the "Starting from $199":

Clicking on Upgrade now gave me this:

No mention of Sound Forge Pro 14, but SpectraLayers Pro 7 is definitely there.

Vegas Pro 18 Edit, Vegas Movie Studio 16 Platinum, Magix Video Pro X16, Magix Movie Studio Platinum 2024, Xara Designer Pro X19, Samplitude Pro X8 Suite, Music Maker 2025 Premium, SF Audio Cleaning Lab 4, Sound Forge Pro 16 and more.

I never got spectralayers pro 7. I got v6 with the 17-18 upgrade and ended up paying for the upgrade to v7 directly from Steinberg

Ah thanks John, not too worried about forking out for the upgrade, would be a spare serial I guess, but I did wonder. I did pretty well out of the 17-18 Suite deal anyway so not complaining.

@surferj45  Well they should honer it regardless if you are a new user, or an old loyal user. Any company that make a mistake should accept the responsibility of their mistake.

I'm no lawyer, but then there's their Legal Notice Disclaimer/Other 1. for them to consider.

aboammar wrote on 8/11/2020, 10:35 AM

Well, I am not a lawyer as well, and as per Magix Legal Notice Disclaimer/Other 1, it seems that legally they are covered and not obligated to honor such offers created by mistake. However, ethically I believe they should honor it! By doing so, the relationship between users and Magix will be stronger, and Magix will win more loyal customers.

Really depends on whether money was paid in reliance of the offer and not refunded on request after disavowal by claim of mistake. A disclaimer that effectively says, "I'll give you whatever I feel like after I take the money and run," is kind of frowned upon.

vkmast wrote on 8/11/2020, 1:50 PM

I think there's still time to cancel the purchase. VP 18 was released on August 3.

surferj45 wrote on 8/11/2020, 3:04 PM

I did not purchase the "Edit" version because it wasn't the Vegas Pro version as identified in the advertisement that they sent me. I did notify Magix sales about this issue yesterday but haven't heard back from them.

fred-w wrote on 8/11/2020, 4:36 PM

Normally speaking, the "upgrade" is always going to be towards the same "model" or level of the program you're already using. I mean, wouldn't you normally expect that?

They're not saying: "Hey you, this is your lucky day; for a limited time, we're going to offer you the higher level for the same upgrade price you'd normally pay for Vegas Pro Edit. Offer expires in five minutes, so jump on it."

You're engaging in a sort of wishful thinking. Like a free lunch. It doesn't exist. I think you understand that. Why are you not happy to upgrade to the normal version of Vegas that you already enjoy? All of the offerings are actually called "Vegas Pro" = Vegas Pro Edit, Vegas Pro Suite, and simply Vegas Pro.

The color match thing? it's a real thing in their marketing, exactly to cut down on such confusion, and I think you know that as well. You chose simply not to "double verify." IOW, ignore that ("I'm not concerned with color..." not convincing.) If you did not hear it from dad, let me reiterate: 'If it SOUNDS too good to be true....'.etc... Let's just support the program if we like it and wish them to do well so they'd stay in business, not look for "deals" that are not real nor expected.

aboammar wrote on 8/11/2020, 8:24 PM

@fred-w "Normally speaking, the "upgrade" is always going to be towards the same "model" or level of the program you're already using. I mean, wouldn't you normally expect that?" No, that is not necessarily true! Going from Vegas Pro Edit to Vegas Pro is an upgrade, and going from Vegas Pro to Vegas Pro Suite is an upgrade!

As for the color matching thing, I never really noticed it before, and I am sure that most people will not notice it when they see this ad:

Now I know that was a big mistake from the marketing team, but to most consumers, it is considered misleading marketing and bait!
