I'm sure somebody will correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding is that you can have 2 'activated' Vegas Pro installs at the same time, the activations being shown on My Products on your Vegas Pro My Account online. I'll take an educated guess and suggest that it may be possible to have Vegas Pro installed on more than 2 devices and de-activate one instance via My Account in order to activate another instance on another machine.

Please note well that this apparently does not apply to Vegas Pro 365 as previous posts on this forum have noted that only 1 activation is available with 365, and only 1 change of device is permitted per month.

Thanks for the quick reply, just wondering then...

I have vegas 14, I guess I could leave that installed on 1 pc? I'm mainly after the tracking features in vegas 17.

Do you know if I track something in vegas 17, would I be able to use the saved file and it work in vegas 14?

Long shot I know!

Thanks.

@mark-t … Vegas Pro's .veg project files are not backward compatible; however, if you use tracking in Vegas Pro 17 and then render it out, the rendered file should be able to be used in VP14 (or any other NLE for that matter) so long as the rendered file is of a format that is able to be input into VP14. On the off-chance that it isn't, just re-render again in a different format.

Only when it is a rendered videofile and its codec will be accepted by VP14

One of the advantages of the Magix dynamic license check scheme is that if log into to your Magix account, you can deactivate a machine remotely to activate the one that's where you are. And reverse it the same way when you're back to home base.

Dexcon wrote on 4/20/2020, 7:41 AM

@Howard-Vigorita … but as the link provided by vkmast highlights, that process via My Account can only be used once per month. De-activating and re-activating via the VP program on your computer can be used without that limitation.

That makes sense. Best to save deactivation via your account login for times when you cannot deactivate from your computer because it just crashed so bad you gotta scratch it. But I'm in an unplanned situation at the moment being away from home base longer than expected with one of my v17 licenses still back there and only one here on a medium duty machine and only v16 on my laptop. I may have to do a deactivation of that back-home machine via my account login.

Hi, Sorry me again.

I mentioned before that I want the tracking feature from Vegas 17, but I've just watched this video:

And at time index 18 minutes, the person says that you can't add a video as the moving footage following the tracked motion of another track.

I used to use After Effects and I could use images, videos, text, etc, to follow the tracked video, does Vegas 17 limit to only text and effects?

Hope this makes sense?!

Many thanks

Dexcon wrote on 4/21/2020, 4:59 AM

@mark-t … It would be worthwhile having a look at Vegas Pro's official tutorial about planar tracking in Vegas Pro 17:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/vegas-pro/online-tutorials/

I used to use After Effects and I could use images, videos, text, etc, to follow the tracked video

When you used AE, was the tracking performed by Boris FX's Mocha Pro? If so, and if this is the level of tracking sophistication that you are seeking, then Mocha Pro can be bought as an OFX version (rather expensive though) which works in both Vegas Pro 16 and 17, but I'm not sure about VP14.

A trimmed version of Mocha is in the full version of HitFilm Pro from FXHome which uses Mocha Pro's planar tracking technology but not Remove, Stabilisation and some other capabilities.

From a recent post on this forum, another contributor noted that Vegas Effects is a rejigged HitFilm Pro but does not include Mocha; however, I can't personally vouch for that one way or the other.

Hi, Thanks for the reply, the tracking I done on AE was way back in the early 2000's and it was the built in tracking.

i've downloaded the demo trail version and will give it a little play.

I've use a lot of editing software (including industry ones) and I still go back to my old Vegas :)

Thanks
