Vegas Effects to Vegas pro

Arild-Andersen wrote on 12/5/2023, 8:22 AM

Hello
I am thinking of upgrading from Vegas Pro 21 to Vegas Post
Have a question regarding the Vegas Effects included in the Vegas Post.

Is it possible to open Vegas Effect from Vegas pro?

And if you then edits and adds effects in Vegas Effect.

Is it then possible to save and go back to Vegas Pro and continue working?

At least that's how it is in Mocha Vegas.

Regards
Arild

1. Yes. 2.Yes. 3. Yes.

You would send your clip to Vegas Effects from the Vegas Pro timeline. You would do your "effect" thing, and save, which sends it back to the Vegas timeline with all that you did to it. Quite easy, quick and painless!

It seems that you now have a VEGAS Pro 21 version other than the VP 21 Post. If you want to switch/upgrade to VP 21 Post, best to try and contact shop@magix.net. You (currently) probably need to buy a new copy of VP Post and cancel your license (and get a refund) for your current VP version (which has fewer add-ons).

(A related case here.)

Yes, but you must remember the difference between them.

  1. Mocha is connected with Vegas through OFX but Vegas Effect is not. So you can use Mocha in Media FX, Event FX, Track FX and Video Bus FX. Vegas Effects can't do this.
  2. Thanks to OFX, Mocha can read images of any media file that has been imported into Vegas. However, Vegas Effects may not be able to support some files that have been imported into Vegas, because Vegas Effects has its own format compatibility list.
  3. All Mocha's edits are saved in vegas' project file .veg, and no additional storage file is needed. However, Vegas Effects auto saves a separate .vegfx file to store all its edits.

Then Vegas effects is not an effect, but an external editor.

Reyfox wrote on 8/10/2024, 5:05 PM

Vegas Effects is an external editor, yes. You click on your clip on the timeline, and VE opens with it there. From there, you have access to all the Ignite 5 plugins and compositing. If you have any additional OFX plugins like BorisFX, they too will show up there.

If you've ever seen Hitfilm Pro, that is basically Vegas Effects without the timeline editing.

But Vegas Effects and Image are no longer offered with VP22.

Vegas Effects is much better I find with adding certain effects than Vegas Pro is. For example;

Chroma keying out a green screen. I find the effect in Vegas Pro to be somewhat unintuitive and rather difficult to get a good result with. Meanwhile, if you send the footage in question into Vegas Effects, the tools to key out a green screen are much more intuitive to do. There is also a preset for Bluescreen and Greenscreen already built in that does a remarkably good job at keying it out that I find myself just dragging a dropping that one preset onto my footage and it does a better job than I could.

Motion tracking and multi-point tracking I also find to be easier inside of Vegas Effects than what is in Vegas Pro. The tools in VP are good, but sometimes I find that with the new AI features that try to do a bulk of the work, I end up getting sloppier results that require more time on my end with cleaning up the individual keyframes.

It's a great disappointment that they have ended support of Vegas Effects and Vegas Image with VP22, they were both great additions to what you could accomplish with Vegas that complimented the software excellently. Dreading the day when I have to upgrade to a version of Vegas that won't support them.

"Intuitive" is a subjective. It is based upon a person's past experiences and thoughts of how things should perform. I know for some, editing "upside down" (ala PowerDirector) is intuitive, but it isn't for me.

As for Vegas Effects offering more tools for green screen, tracking, etc., yes, that's true. Hitfilm Pro was well known for this ability, and having it within the Vegas ecosystem was a huge "plus" in my opinion.

To me, AI is still in it's infancy. I don't expect "spot on" results. Nothing gives that yet. But in time, I do think things will continually get better.

Overall, I'll still keep VP21 Post installed on my computer. And while some things might be easier to use, the plugins that came with VE, have been basically replaced on my computer with Boris FX Continuum Complete. I am so glad I went that route several years ago because the yearly update is really inexpensive compared to what Ignite Pro wanted (I have their last version Ignite Pro 5), and the plugins are far better.

Sadly, right now, Ignite Pro 5 doesn't work as an OFX in VP22. I hope they get that fixed. There are a few of the plugins that are easier and faster to use than Boris.

I don't think it was a decision on the Vegas end of things. Everything was in place for VE/VI, but Artlist, being the (and I'll leave that blank) that they are, are real "tools" having made countless promises in the beginning and finally, destroying everything, alienating a lot of users. All the FXHome people left. They shut down the user and social media forums. No respect for them at all.

Again, the best decision I made was getting Continuum Complete. I used to get the Vegas Suites with Boris or Sapphire, but when you upgrade, you can loose your previous plugins. Boris made me an offer I couldn't refuse on a Black Friday. I've been with them ever since.

Oh, and I still have Hitfilm Pro 2021.3 installed.
