VEGAS Movie Studio 15 Update 1 - General Discussion

Having seen the problems with the first release I decided to wait until a new build was available. I have now just installed build 116 and all went well during the installation. However, when I opened my first project (a MS14 one) it crashed as soon as it tried to load the first .mts video file. Not a good start! I then started MS15 again, and this time all went well, and my project loaded perfectly, and easily as quickly as MS14 - including the thumbnails.

I wanted to use the custom windows layout I had been using in MS14, so I copied my custom layout file from "Documents and Settings/{username}/AppData/Roaming/Movie Studio Platinum/14.0" to "Documents and Settings/{username}/AppData/Roaming/Movie Studio Platinum/15.0". Then in MS15 I assigned that layout to the first empty custom layout, and it worked. No problem here.

Then I was very pleased to see that my Pixelan, New Blue and Hit Film plugins that were in MS14 where already available in MS15, as was SmartSound's SonicFirePro 6. That was a relief.

I haven't given MS15 (build 116) a proper run yet, but other than the initial glitch, all seems well. 🙂

I only wish that there was a Linux version of Movie Studio.

Used Vegas Pro since about version 14

Vegas Pro 22 (VP20 also installed)

Win 11 Home 64 bit, always updated

Intel Core i5 13400F, 10 cores/16 threads

32GB DDR5 RAM, 5200

Intel Arc A750 Graphics card

MSI Pro B760M-A Motherboard

I have a problem dragging DV uncompressed video into the timeline. My drag goes into the movie studio 15 platinum timeline but doesn't show the lines/boxes of where it will go on the timeline. So I just dragged 25GB of DV files onto the timeline with just a regular mouse cursor and minimized the program and went to a web browser. When it parsed the video files and created the little temporary files it opened the videos in my browser and I had all of then open new tabs on Firefox.

This seems to be a step backwards compared to v14 platinum.

Thanks, A definite improvement, loading clips and projects much improved, as quick as VMS14 (which wasn't very quick but useable).

One problem I have found is this, in 13 and 14 I was able to render both video and JPEG stills on the same timeline. In 15 the video is fine but the stills flick through very quickly and jittery not viewable.

Is there a way around this problem?

Thanks

Ted

I've never come across this problem so you must be doing something unusual. Give us more details on what you are doing so we can determine what might be your problem.

We have added a light interface option in the display preferences. The default is still the dark interface, you can switch to the light interface now if that works better for you. The best way to determine if this will work for you is to download the 30 day trial and try it out.

It is still not very good. The light setting is impossible to use for me due to the low contrast between background and text. The dark option is too dark ....

I suppose it is modern styling but for my eyes not the best solution.
Why not adding a white option? Too old fashioned? 😞

Movie Studio 15 is not working here, I have an mp4 file that I'm editing but in Movie studio 15 the audio and Video de-syncronise progressively during the video. This is a problem that Movie studio 14 doesn't have when I use that. Could someone help me fix this problem or tell me what it is?

Dear community,

VEGAS Movie Studio 15 Update 1 (build 106 & 116) has been released. Please give us your feedback in this thread.

If you already have earlier builds installed, there is no need to uninstall them. The build 106/116 will overwrite your installation and retain your settings. Your computer will need to be online for activation after the update.

Official announcement with Patch Notes

Please write us your feedback in this thread. Here you can find the official announcement with patch notes.

Best regards,
Mathias

Ok, just to make sure I get this right. I have Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 15 (build 102). Do I install Build 106 and then Build 116 in that order? Do I need to restart VMSP after build 106 and then after build 116? Do I wait for activation after each new build or just after both are complete? Thanks, I don't want to screw it up.

Build 106 is for the basic Movie Studio 15 as shown in the "Official Announcement".

@Honeyphox Maybe this, which also works in Movie Studio: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/avc-xavc-s-issues-in-vp15-try-disabling-so4compoundplug-dll--108345/

Otherwise more info needed please.

@Nick Hope Thanks a million, this fixed all the sound issues I was having!

Thank you for pointing that out. I had assumed it was for Platinum as well. So I assume I have to wait for the Platinum fix to roll out. Hope that is soon.

Red faced I am. I apologize to all concerned. I finally got my eyes and brain working together. I did download the Platinum fix.

I currently have both Movie Studio Platinum 14 and 15 installed. So I figured I should install the update but the process says "detected an older version of Movie Studio do you want to upgrade the product". So... is it MSP15 that is considered to be the older version? I'm trying to be careful as I don't want to mess up my MSP14 installation, as that is working fine. :)

Installing MS 15 P update/build 116 only replaced the previous build 102 of MS 15 P. You might read the first page of this thread for some "experiences".

I did read and didn't really see anyone asking the same thing I did - thanks for your reply!

They probably did not because the first post says "If you already have earlier builds installed, there is no need to uninstall them. The build 106/116 will overwrite your installation and retain your settings." By some "experiences" I meant (e.g.) later comments saying that the settings (preferences) were not retained, which was confirmed.

MSP15 build 116, nvidia driver 391.35. Slow encoding times with NVENC / gtx1060 on Win7x64 12GB when compared against ffmpeg with nvenc on same machine (~1min vs ~6seconds). One VP15 user reports encoding times of 33seconds.

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/movie-stud15-nvec-encoding-awful-encoding-performance-not-using-gpu--110985/

Sample video file and timings here

Can anyone with a GTX1060 3GB verify their timings?

Do we get this upgrade for free if we already own Movie Studio Platinum? Or do we have to keep buying the latest versions indefinitely?

EricLNZ wrote on 4/10/2018, 10:13 PM

Build 116 is an update to MS15Plat. If you already have MS15Plat then yes it's free. But if you have an earlier MS version and wish to upgrade to MS15 then it's not free.

vjsouza wrote on 4/12/2018, 3:59 PM

I found the origin of the problem! My MSP15 did not work at startup.
Then, I explore the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\HitFilmExpress2017\BCC_OFX_3DObjects.ofx.bundle\Contents\Win64 and rename the file BCC_OFX_3DObjects.ofx to BCC_OFX_3DObjects.ofx-old. Now, MSP15 works PERFECT!

Just ran the update for Platinum - it is now asking for my key - which does not work when trying to register. my key is for Upgrade: VEGAS Movie Studio 15 Platinum. Should this still work? Surely I'm eligible for updates?

EricLNZ wrote on 5/1/2018, 4:53 AM

It should work. My experience is that it doesn't usually ask but instead the key is already shown ready. So something strange happening for you. Suggest you take it up with Magix support.

Although, a re-install seems to have cured this
