ANY NEWS. Can't make proxy for weeks and it keeps trying on it's own so I can't use the program

steve-r wrote on 6/10/2021, 2:20 PM

We are aware of the problems with this update of Movie Studio and we working on getting an update out the door.

Nice to know, thanks.
In the meanwhile, is there any workaround for fixing the build-proxy bug?

Anything yet. this is nutz

This is a user to user forum. I'm here as a courtesy. I am not a representative of technical support. I monitor these forums simply to gauge what is going on with our customers.

We are aware of the problems with this update of Movie Studio and we working on getting an update out the door. However, doing new updates takes time. If we rush it out, we risk having an update that presents even more problems than the current update does.

And if I didn't care about the customers, I wouldn't be here monitoring the forum.

If you want a more official response, you should be contacting technical support, not ranting on a user to user forum for us to respond.

Did all that still nothing it's a been a month now

Create Video Proxies bug in Build Version #221

The release of build version #221 for Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 17, has introduced a new bug that is causing the creation of Video Proxies to fail.

Video Proxy renders, but then fails at the end and produces this error report.

@Dr Zen - Hi Derek, could you please clarify if you are experiencing this with all file types as earlier on in this thread you posted:

[2] Create video proxies is still working OK in build #221 for me.
I tested every format I own, but I don't have any Panasonic 4K .mov files

Help. After my update to v.17, I found that everytime I 'add media' to a project it automatically adds the media to the very end of the open project. It was nice when you could just add media and not have it snap to the end. Is there a setting that can be changed to stop this? Example: I would come to point in a video when I need to add media - I add media and it snaps to the very end of the whole project - taking me off the point I actually need the media! Ahhhh - please show me how to turn that off - thanks!

This is in regard to one of the things update 221 was noted as having fixed, which was the problem with .MTS and .M2TS video files that include the 5.1 Surround Sound AC-3 audio stream option crashing VMSP 17 when opening them for editing due to a bug introduced by the "great" Windows 10 OS. I can load these files into VMSP 17 successfully and work with them. However, I’ve found VMSP 17 still crashes if I open the MAKE MOVIE/SAVE TO HARD DRIVE panel and choose the AVCHD option (as VMSP 17 recommends) even if I’ve turned off 5.1 Surround Sound AC-3 audio stream option and record in plain 2 Channel Stereo mode, prior to recording my video. I've made note of this to Magix's support but they've just ignored my concern, I guess because they consider the issue fixed and not worthy of further support. I can't really blame them, because before I discovered the information concerning why this was happening, I KNEW Windows 10 was somehow at the bottom of it! I can't really put blame on Magix as their responsibility is to their product, not fixing Microsoft Update created issues!

I don't know if you are the same person who I have been helping on my forum @ MovieStudioZen, but I can confirm the new bug when trying to render to AVCHD with 5.1 Audio. I have had 3 separate people contact me now, about the same bug. I've told people to stop rendering to AVCHD with 5.1 Audio.

If rendering a video with 5.1 Audio is important for you, I recommend going into the Advanced Settings and selecting Sony AVC/MVC instead. Then go into the Custom settings and set the Audio to 5.1. Using this option is working OK for me and does not crash the program.

If you are only working with 2x Channel Stereo, go into the Advanced Settings and use MAGIX AVC/AAC to render your videos.

Thanks for the suggestions and Yes I am the same person you've helped @ the MovieStudioZen forum.  I'm so grateful to you for the help you've given me (often not found elsewhere) and for maintaining an excellent website encompassing that forum.

Using build 221. Program seems a bit more difficult to use. Seems to have installed correctly but I cannot add Titles and Text. Text can be added to the timeline but when previewing the video the text box can be seen but there is no text in it. Have reinstalled the software and tried many variations but nothing will work. 😑

Like others have posted, the build 221 no longer builds video proxy files for me. v16 used to do this automatically when I added a 4K file to the timeline. When I try to manually trigger it to build a proxy it gets all the way to the end of the build of each file and then says there was an error and no proxy file gets saved.

More critically, ever since upgrading to v17 I have found Movie Studio Platinium to be unuably unstable. The editor crashes repeatedly (every few minutes) when viewing video as I am editing my projects. I had hoped this latest patch might address this, but still the same. Just playing video in the timeline hangs the program and I lose any unsaved changes. I have tried turning off many settings as recommended in earlier threads but have not found anything which improves things. I work on projects with a friend who is experiencing the same on his computer. So this is not specific to just my machine.

My system crashes (freezes) with both the latest versions for Movie Studio 17(build 221) and Vegas Pro 18 (build 527).

They both freeze up when attempting to import MP4 files. I do all my videography with the MP4 format.

I have better luck with Movie Studio build 143 but it also freezes intermittently so I hit save after every couple of edits.

The only reason I purchased Vegas Pro 18 was with the hope that it would solve the problem to no avail.

I would like to download an earlier version of Vegas Pro but I can't find one.

Please Help !

See section 6 Direct links here for possible previous build downloads from MAGIX.

And please continue in your own thread.

Build 221 had pros and cons for me.

Pros:

  1. Program no longer crashes on startup, which used to be a big problem
  2. File I/O now correctly identifies and uses my GPU's encoder/decoder while editing

Cons:

  1. Video Proxies are broken, as everybody else has mentioned
  2. The program causes regular CPU spikes, even when it's idle. It'll be normal for 60 seconds or so, then spike to 100% CPU usage for another 60 seconds or so, and then go back to normal. It repeats that process ad infinitum, which makes editing even low resolution videos virtually impossible. I have an i7-11700K CPU and the program will use up all 16 threads even when I'm not using playback or editing in the timeline. Rendering still works fine, roughly 30% - 60% CPU usage, it's just the timeline editing that's abusing the CPU.

Update to fix Video Proxies bug has now been released !!!

Open VMSP17 and the update window should appear in a few seconds.
If it doesn't, go to Help/Check for Updates
Download and install.

If you would like to keep a copy of the #223 installer file, download the update using the program installer app.
dl03.magix.net/vegasmoviestudio17platinum_dlm_k17w6.exe
Select ONLY Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 17 and follow instructions.
This will keep a copy of installation program in your Documents/Magix Downloads folder.

My package is identifying a new sw patch release. I download.....works ok...then nothing happens!. Can you suggest a valid link. Thanks all.

vkmast wrote on 7/6/2021, 2:22 AM

The links mentioned (and advice referred to) in this comment worked for me regarding b 223 as well.

Basiliskfang wrote on 7/6/2021, 3:25 PM

The update works for me and video proxies seem to be working again but now File I/O doesn't detect my GPU encoder/decoder. Basically, it feels like build 204 again, but with more CPU usage.
