But Vegas is just so intuitive...the editing tug-of-war...

redpaw wrote on 7/15/2019, 12:27 PM

some more info about vegas 17 in the new 'special offer' emails:

With its uniquely flexible approach to nested timelines, a sleek yet powerful color-grading workflow, HDR support, optical-flow slow motion, planar motion tracking and much more, VEGAS Pro 17 will deliver a state-of-the-art video editing environment.

So, redesigned color grading?

Glad to see what it might be a 'proper' motion tracking... just hope for some better files and videofx managment.

As i skipped v16 (first one since v6) can't wait for get back on board with v17

GPU accelerated decoding for AVC and HEVC”

One of the new VP17 features ... I know that VP16 has HW encoding of these formats, so obviously it hadn’t got hw decoding. So maybe this will improve playback?

do you know any other features ?

worst moment to upgrade for me in term of money, but... i'm an idiot, I purchased a Vegas Pro licence instead of an Edit one. the upgrade is 100$ more expensive and i never use the additionnal third party content lol.. (<-- call me stupid yes :( ..)

by curiosity, is a downgrade possible ?)

Uh. Dude.

Doesn't magix give you a 14 day grace period to make refunds?

You can email them and ask for it, see what they say.

Thanks for repeating some of the advice I gave earlier in this thread.

If you ask for it, they will just give it to you. They are pretty good about refunds - no questions asked ;-)

However, the website they use to submit these support requests is... a little confusing.

What about to use the Trial? No Need for refund, test it, love it or hate it. The only Limitation is that you can do that only one time, if you do not use Tools like Trueimage. ;)

As Wolfgang says. Note though that trial renders need to be shorter than two minutes. This post applies to Vegas Pro as well.

Vegas pro have the best timeline.

I hope that in the end VP17 will be an optical flow and an improved engine that uses graphics cards to a greater extent. If it was still recalculation in the background...

@DesertSweeper thanks for notifying so eloquently your fellow users of the extension of the Vegas Pro 16+17 offer. Your comment, while maybe biting, was not quite correct (sic) though. I have no idea why you chose to use the word "unprecedented" as anyone (incl. yourself) who has been keeping an eye on these special offers knows that this has indeed happened before. Please see e.g. here and the five subsequent comments.

I understand very well why DesertSweeper was sarcastic here. And that has to do with your marketing strategy. Of course it is true that "this has happened before", but this is about the submerged message to "hurry" or you will miss the deal of the century. Also this pre order offer of Vegas 17 with only a "sneak preview" falls into this category. And so when people see these kinds of offers coming around quite often then in the end, it impresses no one anymore... I am definitely not going to do any pre order of Vegas 17 before I have a look at the trial version first. This marketing attitude resembles that one of market salesmen. So these guys shouting at a market about their wares and how much they love you... and hurry... hurry.. so you will not miss out on this deal....

When people start to be sarcastic here, it is because in a way they do not really trust this kind of talk. Don't get me wrong, if you would not see a deceptive attitude of a market salesman then you will definitely not make any sarcastic comments on that because everyone likes a good honest deal. But it's about the other ones, that you do not trust completely with their deals, and in the end you may even think they "act funny" and when you see that then you start to make funny remarks all by yourself, you can also call it being sarcastic, and then suddenly vkmast has no clue what you are talking about. And so I hope this clarifies this a bit for you vkmast...

Nevertheless, I have been thinking how to do this better, and if I would be in charge of this marketing strategy, then I would say, everyone loves a deal but let's be honest about this. So, for one year there is going to be an offer, call it the offer of the month, and next month there is going to be an other offer. And so on for one year. And if you just think about this for a moment you will see that this marketing strategy is much better than what is happening now. And so that is what I would do.

@OndrejPopp thank you for your suggestion for a new marketing strategy. I'm sure Magix appreciates it. Please note though that this is a user forum regularly checked by the dev team, but not necessarily by Magix Marketing that most likely decides the marketing strategy.

As for my suddenly having no clue what "you" are talking about you are of course entitled to your opinion. After almost 8 years regularly on these forums and currently reading >90% of the comments here I beg to differ.

AS long as we are talking about marketing....

Did anyone else try to watch the live preview of Vegas 17 on Facebook tonight? Not good. Ok, actually have to say (and I am reluctant to be harsh) it was a disaster. This was ostensibly the first look at what Magix marketing team are touting as the biggest Vegas Pro release ever. First they got stuck pfaffing about as a "post" rather than "event." After 10-15 minutes I discovered they moved it to an "event" so I tried to watch that only to discover they dropped the audio for the entire "new color panel" section. No idea how this actually works. The explanation of nested timelines was totally odd (intended for multi-user collaboration? Seriously? What about just simply for organizing tons of footage?) Whole thing ended in a whimper; should have been a really big bang.

I think the dev team is doing a great job, but the marketing team is really letting the side down!

fr0sty wrote on 7/26/2019, 1:17 AM

The marketing team trusted another site to do the reveal, and they had some technical difficulties during it. However, we can now confirm this info, since it has been made public via this video:

A Resolve-Like color grading solution that contains LUT import and export capability, wheel and slider RGB controls for lift, gamma, gain, and offset, as well as exposure and saturation sliders next to the levels.

8K support via proxy

GPU hardware decoding

Nested timelines - In the video he saves a timeline, it saves it as a separate project, but opens the timeline inside of vegas, with no need to open another instance like before. The collaboration thing was only mentioned as an example, this very well could be used as a means of organizing footage. It also saves as its own project, if you'll notice when he creates the timeline, so that means you can edit that project on its own separately as well.

Vegas Post will launch alongside Vegas 17 on August 5.

Boris FX plugins and Spectral Layers Pro 6 included in Suite, Post includes Vegas Effects and Image plugin packages.

A screen capture utility

A framerate upscaler for super smooth slow motion

Planar 3D motion tracking

Event Level Video Stabilization

Improved Color curves

Improved PiP

Improved HDR support

and more... Needless to say, this is one heck of an update.

Just watched the preview...

Not the slickest presentation, but showed 2 things that I regularly switch to Resolve and Premiere Pro for (Resolve-like colour grading workflow) and easy switching nested projects. And mentioned something that I use fairly regularly in my YouTube talking head videos - Warp-Flow transitions (assuming that the same as the Warp Cut or Smooth Flow of Premiere and Resolve respectively).

I'm sold. Assuming it all works well enough (probably after the first bug fix release!) I'll happily ditch my Creative Cloud sub and free up some space on my disks by deleting Resolve.

I'm by no means a power-user or professional editor, but for hobbyists like myself I think the Vegas developers may have nailed it - add an FXHome-powered Vegas Post and I think Vegas Creative Software are very much back in the game!

Jon Baker - Experienced in music creation, still a newbie at the video game 😉

PC: AMD Ryzen 3 2200G Desktop w/16GB DDR4 and Radeon RX570 (4GB) , ~5TB of storage across various HDDs, Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 audio interface, Mackie CR5BT studio monitors, 24" 1080p monitor (not anything special!)

For capture: Olympus PEN E-PL6 camera (1080p30) with external mic input adaptor and Olympus ME51S electret lavalier and Takstar SGC-598 shotgun mic and a Samsung Galaxy S10e (4K30 or 4K60) with Filmic Pro or stock video apps and external mic adaptor.

The LUT export, in addition to that color grading workflow, is a game changer for me with collaborating with my business partners. One lives in Ohio, he can dropbox me a quick clip of each scene he needs colored, I can export a lut, and even though he's on final cut, he can get my grades from Vegas quickly and easily.

Are you actually a Magix employee/representative vkmast or not? I am a concerned potential customer but who are you exactly? I just realized that if you are not really a representative of Magix there is no point discussing this with you further.

Until I watched the video I was considering skipping 17. Not now. being retired and of course on a budget I do like the ability to not upgrade, but for the projects I am doing (nothing commercial) nested timelines and screen capture are two powerful tools for me. When I purchased Samplitude X4 PRO Suite for the $150 offer I made the commitment to stay with Magix products and this kind of upgraded to Vegas is a key reason why I believe that was the right reason.

@Dexcon Thanks. I just checked, and vkmast is fully green with a big white M on it. And so does this mean that vkmast is a moderator here? Or does this mean "M"agix? And is Magix responsible for their moderators and their statements here or not? And if a moderator discusses company issues does he speak on behalf of Magix or not? I would say he does, because if Magix appointed him, then Magix is responsible for these statements and so is the moderator.
