shizer-z wrote on 10/21/2022, 1:06 AM

Hi, when i record some videos using (now) nvidia encoder in obs and put it in sony vegas video preview is lagging and its unusable, but when i record with my cpu theres no lag.. I think its not due to GPU, i just bought gtx 1070 today and i had a rx 580, have the same problem on the both cards. I would be grateful if anyone can help

If this helps - fine.

@shizer-z if your Vegas software version is #14 or later, please refer correctly to the branding to avoid confusion.

Bad OBS settings? Please share details and MediaInfo for the rendered file.

The video doesn't answer our questions- what were the specific settings in OBS? What about MediaInfo for the files?

If I had a guess you picked something like a NVIDIA low-latency preset that plays back poorly in Vegas. Try a default one if you want NVENC.

Can you tell us what settings are different in the CPU render?

For CQP 14, how high a bitrate is that in the resulting file? It may be quite high. If you don't know try MediaInfo.
For keyframe interval try 1 (60) or 2 (120) instead of auto for better playback in Vegas.

What other options are there for presets? Consider testing one or more and see if it plays back better.

@shizer-z here's a comparison between playback with your settings and with mine for Nvenc( first clip is yours). The difference is change keyframe interval to 1s , recording at 60fps = an I frame every 60frames instead of an I frame every 250frames which doesn't work well in Vegas. I remember @Musicvid screaming at @RogerS in an unhinged manner for stating similar, saying Vegas can handle a GOP of 250 like a walk in the park, and changing value to 60 makes no difference. But you can see it makes all the difference.

I have Max B frames set to 1, and Psycho Visual Tuning ticked. This won't improve playback, the reasoning I have this set is that it should improve quality and efficiency without any negative for playback (for me anyway)
