VP18 - FX Favourites not staying put, gone after close-down

JN- wrote on 8/3/2020, 8:15 PM

Hope thats clear. Add the FX to your favourites, but they only stay for the current session. Close VP and then open and no favourites. Maybe I have to apply in some way?

I thought someone else fixed this by loading it as an admin the first time.

This does not seem to be an issue for me in any of the 3 tabs, so far.

JN- wrote on 8/4/2020, 3:45 AM

@vkmast Ok. Well thats good to know. I’ll try on my PC later in case that makes a difference, (this was all done on Laptop) definitely not sticking on the laptop once you close down vp and then re open, the favourites list is empty again. Running as admin, even from file location did nothing.

I selected items from different places, Vegas, third party, etc, they appear and stay in the favourites tab for the current session only.

@JN-I tested this several times on a laptop. Don't even remember running as admin.

Grazie wrote on 8/4/2020, 4:02 AM

@JN- I can’t Repro, working fine here and also, NOT in Admin mode.

JN- wrote on 8/4/2020, 4:04 AM

@vkmast Ok. Maybe i’m doing it wrongly. Perhaps theres an apply item that I haven’t done, don’t see.

I select the relevant fx tab. I select the items, they turn yellow/gold colour, I click on the favourites tab, I now see the items under this favourites tab that previously had no items. As I switch back and forth between tabs, the newly added favourite items still persist.

I close vp, I open vp and the fx favourites list is empty.

@Grazie Good to know, it’s weird.

This issue I also saw, but I figured out how to overcom: Having a lot of patience.
1. After clicking a FX wait untill all presets are loaded and than click the favorite button and work on or close the program
2. After a restart I saw that the favorite still was there and I choosed that way another one, no problem, but when I worked to fast or clicked 2 right after each other the program crashes.

@JN- I had this problem and it was very frustrating. I ended up getting the 'Favorites save' to work by the following steps.
First, edit the desktop shortcut (Properties/Shortcut/Advanced) to make VP18 run as Administrator.
Launch VP18 from the shortcut.
Declare your favourites.
Close VP18 down and then relaunch it.
Favourites should have been saved.
Edit the desktop shortcut to remove the tick in 'Run as administrator' (Properties/Shortcut/Advanced).
Launch VP18 again and the Favourites should still be there.

This worked for me. May have been a Windows permissions thing. Hope it works for you.

JN- wrote on 8/4/2020, 4:40 AM

@Jack S Thanks Jack, I did all of of that exactly as you suggested, earlier on. Didn't work.

@pierre-k Thanks Pierre, I believe I'm doing it exactly as you are.

I'll try on my PC later, see if that's a different outcome. I just updated to latest Studio drivers on laptop, no change. I noticed that on clicking "Show" after the driver download always crashes VP, not related to this issue though.

@JN- That's a pity. We could do with someone at VCS telling us where these Favorites are saved so we can verify whether they are indeed being saved.

JN- wrote on 8/4/2020, 6:01 AM

Anyway, the favourites stick/persist in my PC, so that's progress.

But there are other issues, adding to favourites has to be done piecemeal, VP crashes constantly while simply touching say an item to add to favourites, so I add a few, close VP reopen then add some more.

The list of items in say media generators, or other tabs goes really weird sometimes. A few screenshots follow.

Odd

Nothing showing here.

Normal I guess.

Decided to roll back the Nvidia driver on PC, but checked first was anything similar to above screenshot issues in VP16, but was aok, so reluctant to roll back. Now I'm pretty sure that I updated the driver from within VP yesterday. What I found was that the Studio driver is dated 2019? So I updated the drivers to the latest using Geoforce Experience, not from within VP. No more funny issues so far on PC, or crashes by using the favourites item.

I'll have another look at the laptop later.

@Marco. Thanks for that info. When I was having problems saving the Favorites, I scoured those folders to see if I could see anything that I would recognise, but I couldn't. That's why they weren't being saved. They are being saved now and the folder you indicated is there.

Yup, I'm having the same issue. Spent ages clicking all my favourites then they were gone as soon as I restarted VP18 :-(

Will try the various suggestions above and see if that helps. I shall be most frustrated if not, the Favourites feature was going to be a very useful.

EDIT: this is odd. I added some Favourite Transitions, they appeared in the FavoritedTransitions.settings file in C:\Users\David\AppData\Roaming\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro\Favorite PlugIns but when I restarted Vegas they weren't there and the FavoritedTransitions.settings file had been reset to empty!

EDIT AGAIN: The "admin" trick didn't work. Vegas is correctly writing the FavoritedTransitions.settings file when it exits but if you try setting that file to Read Only (to stop it being reset), Vegas seems to ignore it when starting up because the Favourites tab was empty even though the file had entries in it. Unsetting "read only" meant Vegas just reset the file to blank when it started up.

I have the same problem. Starred effects stick for the session but they disappear on exit from Vegas. Windows 10 Pro, version 2004, OS Build 19041.388 .

As far as the crashes and lock-ups, this fixed all of that for me:

JN- wrote on 8/5/2020, 1:50 PM

To summarise what's below .. VP18 is writing any items that you have added to the favourites tab within VP to the favourites file on disc "FavoritedVideoFX.settings", but is not reading/adding those items from the file on VP start-up into the favourites tab within VP.

So this is what happens, on my laptop ... (no problem on my PC)

1) Add items to the favourites tab.

2) Close VP

3) The file FavoritedVideoFX.settings is now populated with the items

3a) Located at ... C:\Users\John\AppData\Roaming\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro\Favorite PlugIns\

4) Run VP

5) The items are still in the file but they aren't read into the favourites list in VP, the favourites list tab is now empty.

6) Close VP, the items now get removed from the file. Update: I overlooked the fact that since there are no items in VP favourites tab that VP is now correctly updating the file on disc with no items also.

You can make a copy of #3 above and copy it over the FavoritedVideoFX.settings file, but as mentioned in #5 they are simply not read into the VP favourites list, even though the items are in the FavoritedVideoFX.settings file.

I don't think its to do with the make-up of this file (i.e. security privaleges etc) because ...

This isn't a problem on my PC, so ...

I copied the favourites file, from my PC, loaded with items, onto the Laptop.

The same thing happened, (the file taken from the PC and now on the laptop), the files contents weren't read into VP's favourites tab list on the laptop.

What I also did was copy the favourites file (with a few items at stage #3 above) from my Laptop to my PC. VP on my PC now loaded the set of favourites that was selected using my Laptop.
