After many hours of testing, changing a parameter, retesting, changing another parameter, retesting, etc, etc, I've come to the same conclusion as Ian-mLMC and JN- that VP18 isn't reading the 'Favorite Plugins' files when it launches. If favourites have been defined, it actually saves the data in the files on exit (the file size increases), but because it doesn't read the files, when VP18 is closed down it updates the files with null data.

It's very strange that some users aren't experiencing this problem at all. In fact, there was a period when I didn't have the problem. All I did was to uninstall VP18 and re-install it several times in an attempt to get Effects 2 to activate. From then on I've had the problem.

I suspect that this will be an extremely difficult nut for the devs to crack. Here's hoping it's something simple and obvious (to them).

@Jack S Modern software, when it goes wrong, often reminds me of the Witches brew. Just keep throwing different ingredients into the pot, no one really which ones perform the magic, so just try everything. Then when it does finally work, no one is any the wiser, just remember the various ingredients.

Surprised Vegas Pro lets the Favorites Bug go unfixed: Starred Favorites are written on exit into code on my PC (see earlier post above), but on launch VP18 has no Starred Favorites present. VP17 never saved Rendering Favorites. VP18 does not save VideoFX, Transitions, Media generator Favorite choices. How come "Favorites" option exists if it doesn't work? @ 249.00 / upgrade - we're paying alot for broken software,

JN- wrote on 9/7/2020, 6:38 AM

@Liquidfusion The only common denominator to “fixing” this bug that appears to me is that by simply using the program a bit more, then it just starts to work. As if by using some other part or all of VP18 simply fixes the issue. So just because it’s not working today doesn’t mean it won’t work tomorrow LiquidFusion.

The reason Magix haven’t responded is probably because there waiting for users to find the fix, or maybe there equally clueless as to the cause. Looking at the code of course would probably be a last option for them.

249.00 / upgrade - we're paying alot for broken software

Two ways of looking at this really. The second way is that your 249$ lets u into the select club of unpaid beta testers, giving u the opportunity to hone your problem solving skills😂. I mean, whats not to like🤪.

Favorites FX were not working as every one else are saying. Previously I have tried to saved FXs in the favorite folder. Upon closed/open Vegas, the FXs are gone. Strange things happened within Vegas. Now the favorite FX are working correctly, Video FX and Transition FX are all good.

Vegas fixed itself. Don't know why or how. But I can't complaint about that.

@BruceUSA a similar happenstance just here as well. Not sure if saving a project after marking a Favorite had anything to do with it, don't think so. I'll see if it sticks 'til tomorrow.

JN- wrote on 9/7/2020, 9:44 AM

@vkmast @BruceUSA I found it started working for me since 8th-August, see previous page, and i’ve confirmed it was still in place while doing some occasional projects since then. I just checked again now, I removed one of the items under favourites, closed/opened, and it was gone, the rest of the items are still there under favourites. I then added it back in, closed/opened and its still there with the rest of my favourites, all on my laptop, PC worked from day one.

So VKmast, I think it should hopefully stay stuck for you.

@BruceUSA Well, that took longer than I thought. Anyway, BruceUSA, that doesn’t happen in my case.

What I was experiencing was a lot of crash crash when I attempted to deselect an item in the favourites list by clicking on the star. Very occasionally it worked, but best to deselect in the list that the vx belongs to, not the favourites list.

The reason I was doing this, removing items from favourites list and then adding them again, was to get some of my favourites grouped together. What I discovered too late was that this method of grouping your items in manual order only sticks for the current session. It’s overridden on next start up and put into alphabetical sort order.

It would be nice to have a manual sort oder option, then again it would be nice if it worked at all.

@BruceUSA Make sure that u do an actual item count, before and after, could it be that the resorting into alphabetical order makes u think that some items went missing?

I am confident it was not a sorting or alphabetical order on my part. No big deal, I simply re-do my favorite item. I am happy it is working.

What happened to working right out of the box?

@JN - I found it started working for me since 8th-August, see previous page, and i’ve confirmed it was still in place while doing some occasional projects since then

Today is SEP 7th - almost one month later. The Favorite Render List never worked for me in VP17. This will be a step up if wishing makes the VP18 Fav List appear on start.
