Yes, saying something like "Historically at SCS the upgrade price for Vegas Pro was 249.95 USD." is fine and probably(maybe) accurate. Historically updates probably had a lot of additions.

The V13 upgrade did not have much in it and the price was a lot lower, 150. There is some logioc in that.

The 249 V14 upgrade price implies significant updates. The community as a whole can voice thier opinion on significance of the update. Has DVDA been changed even one bit beyond MAGIX branding?

Does the V14 update have significant value or is it an money grab from a desperate user base.

I don't know the history myself, but the image Heg posted shows that the normal upgrade prices were $200 for Edit and $250 for regular.  The image shows a limited-time promotion of 30% off ending September 30, 2015.

Why did Magix overcomplicate the upgrade issue? Every customer should be able to visit the Magix website, enter their most recent Vegas serial number, and receive the appropriate upgrade price. That method works every time.

No customer should have to wait on some mysterious email that may or may not arrive. I didn't even save the email I received, because every company I've dealt with when it comes to software for the past 20 years offered a way to buy it from the website at the upgrade price.

Oh well...doesn't matter, because not only are you mishandling the upgrade process, you've also overpriced it to the point that I'm not even interested.

Holy crap! I take that to mean that the "upgrade" will be even more costly outside of the 'special price' chances. That's a scary thought!

Historically, the lowball upgrade price for Vegas Pro was around $139 to $159. It looks to me like Magix is more targeted at trying to attact new users rather than renew old ones.  That's okay as the updates in this version aren't enough for me to justify the upgrade price. Frankly, I suspected it would be very hard for the Vegas team to do much in the timeframe alotted for this release.  For someone looking to come to Vegas it's a fair enough deal, imho -- especially if you can use the BCC and Mercalli units and need the ProRes support.

Of course the risk is current users drifting off to other platforms, but my guess is most of them are already gone. I think I'll be waiting to see what the future holds.

Thank you Gary for the clarification, even though as an existing user I am far from happy.  Every existing user will have to consider their own situation and whether or not this re-purchase offer represents value to them or not.  For me it currently makes no sense at all, however it would help me evaluate if there was even an approximate roadmap of where Vegas Pro might go over the lifetime of version 14.

To illustrate what I mean, when I upgraded from VP12 to VP13 there were one or two features that were useful (for me it was loudness log) but in hindsight, it was poor value other than that it was the only way to get the subsequent bugfixes that have been crucial for VP13's stability.  Now I am faced with re-purchasing again, which will break e.g. Vegasaur and require additional spend to upgrade that, and yes, I would get Mercalli V4 plugins (would prefer MV4SAL+), yet another copy of DVDA and an "Express" version of Titler even though I have TP3 which presumably is also broken in VP14.

So therefore I will need quite a bit of convincing to pay money to change something that ain't broke, or at least ain't broke enough that it justifies the inevitable pain associated with all new releases.

Anyone that took advatnage of the mid-summer "Buy 13, get 14" deal, has no upgrade path now to Suite other than doing the full upgrade from their v13 serial number, despite already owning a v14 Pro serial number.

Would be nice if we could just chip in the $200 difference, and call it a day ...

Average = $163.51

I did not always upgrade soon enough to get the initial lowest price.

The black icons are very hard to see; the renders take much longer, my favorite windows layouts are not there, my favorite render templates are no longer shown as favorites and so on.

The ONLY positives I found is the Cineform files finally read correctly and show as progressive and not interlaced and my 4k videos play at full speed.

Sorry, not enough to upgrade at this time. :(

I have the same problem. I would like to go to 14 suite from 14 pro but when I put in my 14 pro S/N it states it's invalid.

I start with VP8 that I purchased from Amazon were only Vegas Pro, no DVDA.  When I upgrade to VP11 for $139.95 I got VP11+DVDA.

The US$249 (AU$326) does seem to be a mistake. Seems, in line with past upgrades, it should have been US$159. Would have upgraded for a stable product at that price. Still haven't had any communication from Magix about Vegas, did just get a special offer on one of their other products. Can't help but notice that Premiere Pro CC is AU$23 per month - comes out to AU$276 p.a., for those slow at maths. Bye for now, happy to stick with 12, might or might not be back if Vegas 15 improves.

I have upgraded Vegas every time since version 7 but am not convinced to upgrade this time.

Perhaps the euphoria over Magix takeover will cease now that we see the dollars. It all boils down to value for money.
