Render with custom frame size

Si au moins je pouvais me debarrasser de cet incrément de quelques pixels.

Sylk wrote on 9/24/2019, 12:24 PM

Le pire c'est quand même qu'a chaque fois il faut déterminer la résolution de manière empirique : Essayer 804pixels, rendre, s'il y a encore des barres essayer 800, 796, etc... C'est quand même mal fichu /: je vais mettre des semaines. Enfin bon je me plains trop...

I don't know what you mean with increment. Just zoom to see pixels border and crop to the nearest integer pair value.

I suspect that the OP is working on the basis that the player used by a viewer will auto conform to the aspect ratio of the upload no matter whatever the uploaded aspect ratio is (the OP has previously said that 16:9 or 4:3 is not important).

The OP has also stated that reframing in PaintShop Pro was successful in regards to pixel size, then an alternative is to export the video from VP in 'Image Sequence' (jpg for example) and then reframe each frame in PaintShop Pro (the crop tool memorises the previous setting so no re-adjustment needed for each frame). Time consuming - yes. But if the OP is so concerned about a sliver of black, then this may possibly be one way to overcome that problem.

Well Magic is German so in theory we should be speaking German, but ok let's stop speaking French and speak English again.
By increment I was referring to that issue about Legacy AVI codecs, to wich musicvid answered :

Marty111 wrote on 9/27/2019, 4:19 PM

Also it seems that I can't enter any value I want to, I tried "1150x720" and got the following message : "An error occurred while creating the media file (file name.avi). The selected codec does not support the current settings."

Legacy AVI codecs require that both dimensions be exact multiples of four. So 1152 should work, all else being format-compliant.

Nonstandard resolutions may appear in YouTube players with black bars, not a ptoblem for most.

Speak German on German forum version, but on the English version can speak english. I said you this because it's better for you to getting more potential helpers.

1148 instead of 1152 works too. Crop 1 pixel to the left, and 1 to the right makes no big difference.

I can't see any French or German forum. Anyway you're right, everybody speaks English so...
What if I render in x264 instead of xvid? Will I have to choose a multiple of 4 also ?

Thanks vkmast.
@Whydat : I tried to render with x264 and I got the same error : "The selected codec does not support the current settings", so it means I will have to modify the crop anyway.
So I tried modifying the crop few pixels up and down with multiples of 4, I tried with rounded values, . but whatever I do I still get a one pixel large black column or line in the preview window.

Maybe the result of my cross-multiplication ("règle de trois" in french) has to be a multiple of 4 ?

I don't know how to do that, I'm not good in maths.

My original cropping values are : Width : 580.2 Height : 363.6

Marty111 wrote on 9/28/2019, 12:47 PM

If I choose the closest multiple of 4 for each value here is what I get :
364 --> 720
580 --> x
x = 580*720 / 364 = 1147,2527.....

So I tried 1148 but I still get some unwanted pixels.
I'm missing something, I don't know what.

580x360 -> 1160x720

What if I render in x264 instead of xvid?

Any cases, giveup and forget Xvid for encoding.

"forget Xvid for encoding."
I can't yet. I tried x264, picture and sound are out of sync. The soundtrack is ahead of video content by a lot (maybe 1 or 2 seconds). No clue why.

"580x360 -> 1160x720"
Great it seems to work! I'd love to understand the logic of it though. Why was 364 wrong ?

Marty111 wrote on 9/28/2019, 7:13 PM

Probably because with 364 I was enlarging, hence the black bars. With 360 I'm reducing the size.

Marty111 wrote on 9/28/2019, 7:18 PM

Or maybe it's because 1160 is a round figure. 1147,2527..... obviously wasn't.

Marty111 wrote on 9/30/2019, 12:03 AM

Anyway, I'll always choose to reduce the size for the next videos, I hope it will be fine. Thanks lot Sylk for your patience, it's really great, I was thinking about giving up, I though it was impossible.

With 580, and from 363, 360 is nearest size you can use to an integer resize to 720p. And 580x360 *2 = 1160x720, so your pixels will be multiplied by 2, so no "diffuse" pixels but just a perfect resize.

Anyway, I'll always choose to reduce the size for the next videos,

What do you mean?

with 364 I was increasing the size of the crop, but with 360 i'm reducing it. I thought the increase was causing the issue. Ok but I'm afraid not all my crops will be that close to 360 on the other videos.

Edit :
"your pixels will be multiplied by 2, so no "diffuse" pixels but just a perfect resize"
Now I understand why with some values I tried I had a strange 1 pixel column on the left that was not black but was faulty anyway because it had a uniformity of its own and didn't fit with the pixels on the right. It was some kind of blending from the software.

Sylk wrote on 9/30/2019, 1:57 AM

@Marty111 Try this

Just crop your frame with integer size value and center values, and apply what @Former user said.

All what you need to know is already explained in this thread.

What are center values ?
"integer" is a "nombre entier" in french right ? That's what you mean?

Sylk wrote on 9/30/2019, 4:13 AM

Oui.

Crop width and height values must be n.0
AND
Crop X center and Y center values must be c.0 or c.5

According to this rule:

for an even WIDTH value (si Largeur n pair) X center = c.0
for an odd WIDTH value (si Largeur n impair) X center = c.5
for an even HEIGHT value (si Hauteur n pair) Y center = c.0
for an odd HEIGHT  value (si Hauteur n impair) Y center = c.5

In short, "C=c.T" where C is the center field, c any center value and T the n type

Relation (Bi-Directional)

if value is Width then C=X else C=Y
if n is even then T=0 else T=5

Width<->X
Height<->Y
Even<->0
Odd<->5

The only way to keep pixels integrity before resizing.
