Resizable bar and Vegas Pro

Reyfox wrote on 11/30/2023, 8:54 AM

There have been tests with resizable bar (SAM with AMD) and gaming. Results vary, but it's recommended to have it enabled if your hardware supports it.

I am just wondering if there is an advantage using it with Vegas Pro. I rarely play games (really only 2), but was curious as to whether this would affect "content creation".

@Reyfox I have it active, if doesn't help, it doesn't hurt!

That being said there are a few steps to enable it or even to be able to use it:

  • It requires a motherboard BIOS which support it (You may to upgrade it)
  • It requires a CPU which supports it.
  • It requires a chipset to support it.
  • It requires a video card which support it.
  • It requires a video BIOS of the video card which require it (you may need to upgrade the vBIOS).
  • It requires video drivers which support it.

It's optional for a motherboard, GPU, or CPU to support the feature, and only more recent components offer the option. All components must support resizable BAR (NVIDEA) or SAM (AMD)

Also you must enable it in BIOS, and is often hidden in BIOS and often requiring enabling or disabling related BIOS items before it is visible to enable- check your manual!

Thanks for the comments. My computer hardware (CPU, GPU, motherboard) support it. I just never bothered with it. Someone asked does it help with video editing, and I had no answer, so thought I would ask. I might give it a go, but I rarely play games.

It is a good question, especially for ARC GPUs.

I have it enabled on my computer. I haven't done a "before and after" testing. At least there is no adverse effects.

Is there a good way to test it? It's enabled on my desktop but I don't know what kind of test to perform to see if there are performance differences.

@RogerS, I would have tested it when applying Boris or any FX to an event, in addition to checking render times.

I did it initially to see if there was any gaming performance increase, but never kept track of the fps in the games I play anyway. The fps far exceeds the refresh rate of my monitor anyway.
