Reading you I think you installed the plain version for beginners, for more educated editors you need the Platinum version:

If by VS16 you mean Movie Studio 16, this version and the current v 17 are indeed different from previous versions. Using only Power User mode might help you some. But you might try the VEGAS Movie Studio 17 Platinum trial version if your system meets the requirements. Use it in the Power User mode and you'll feel much more at home. Your MS 16 serial number may even be valid for v.17 upgrade pricing. [And]
