VEGAS Movie Studio 17 Update 2 (Builds 159 & 204) - General Discussion

Finally got the update downloaded, ran the installer and installer reports "successfully installed." But when I open MS17 platinum, the build number still says 179 and has not updated to 204. It also lets me know there is an update available.😀

Installer file that I pulled from the announcement page at the top of this thread is named "VEGAS_Movie_Studio_17.0.0.204_Platinum_INT.exe". I've run the installer both as admin and non-admin with no change (build number stays at 179).

Would an uninstall/reinstall be advised here, or am I missing something?

edit:typos

@MikeFor: Often times when the installer appears to run successfully but fails to actually install an update, it is due to insufficient hard drive space. Your problem may be different, but that would be the first thing you should check.

Thanks @VEGASDerek. I checked and it doesnt appear to be my problem. Over 400g free.

I'll try a reinstall and go from there.

Downloading and updating within Movie Studio 17 went smooth and fast.
Downloading the update file with Google Chrome does not work.
Downloading the update file with Microsoft Edge is possible, but very slow (takes about 25 minutes over a 1 Gb/s connection, previous updates downloaded much faster, sure less than 1 minute). Hard disk space is over 100 GB free.....

Just to let Magix know 😉

Update downloaded fast.

Installed fine. Shows Build 204 BUT bugged on re-start.

I was in the midde of editing a video and one of the files I use in my intro (a .MOV file) is suddenly not supported even though I've been using it in all my previous videos and was in this video fine before the update? What is going on? This should be warned of before an update if it is a no-longer supported file type surely!

Yes, setting enabled and still won't accept the video file.

i did my first project and made a 1080 video from 4k clips i had. the 4k video was shot at 30 FPS . i have a 2k monitor and any 4k video i play on it ,it's not smooth .. kinda choppy a little. i figured it was because of the high res. of the 4k clips. but when i made a 1080 video from those same 4k clips, i still not smooth, any thoughts? 1080 60 fps plays great . i have a 4 gig GTX970 MSI/nvidia card

not sure what your asking for . i don't think a screenshot will show you what i'm talking about. I think i should have said something like.. if i scale back a 4k video to 1080p shouldn't it play better . lower res = less data to process .

I was saying to show this, because I'm asking myself where you look to see not smooth playing 4K set to 1080 like this in this screenshot :

or this, that makes a big difference in previewing

Then you have to choose another rendertemplate that does not do that where you have to play it.

I have installed the last 2 updates and since then the system continually crashes. I am able to [play about 10 seconds of a clip and the the images start to flicker & then the screen goes blank but the audio remains throughout. I only purchased Movie Platinum 17 about 3 months ago and it worked perfectly until these last 2 updates. I have now gone back to using Movie Studio 10 which has no problems editing all the clips. This is a joke

just gave sound forge 14 a try. cool. i have two questions... in pinnacle studio i had a plug in call sonicfire. in that program you were able to create a sound file that it would import into pinnacle studio's time line and would adjust itself to fit what ever part of the time frame to used it in. that being said .. it would create it's own end at the end it the sound file thus fit itself. can sound forge do that? and .... all of the effects offered in the program were either asking for a ser. # or it wanted me to buy yet another full version program?

Sound Forge, whilst distributed with Vegas products, comes under the Magix Community forum. Suggest you go there for Sound Forge queries https://www.magix.info/us/audio-forum/

Movie Studio 17 Platinum will not accept mov files after update. QuickTime is selected but I get an error on import, I have a friend that has the same issue. Any ideas?

I have lots of footage shot with Sony 3D 5.1 camcorder (PAL), but were not able to render this in VMS16P. In the trial of VMS17P it rendered the 3D, but there was no option to select 5.1. Anybody worked with this kind of footage in VMS17P? I need to be sure it works perfect before I upgrade..

I believe what you are referring to is the plug-in available from SmartSound. I have it on my signature computer, and the plug-in works currently with both Vegas Pro 17 (452) and Movie Studio 17 (204). It is a "one-time" purchase, with patch updates for free. I bought the plug-in years ago, and I think the program per se, was with the Platinum/Suite purchase of Move Studio 14.

Works great. My problem is that my Ears Don't Work Great. Aww the joys of Naval Boilers and Steam Turbines "comforting" you over a 24 year career! Heh, heh!
