Vegas Pro 15 - best video cards fro timeline playback?

hi,

so this might be already covered somewhere. But is there some development with vp15 regarding timelineplayback & fx etc. What are the smoothet and best video cards to get good and flawless timeline playback with effects processing? not so much interested in mp4 rendering speeds etc.

Well, these are the system requirements ... https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/gb/sem/vegas-pro/specifications/#productMenu

so aim as high as you can afford I guess.

thanks, those are the specs yes. but, i would be even more interested in real life, first hand experiences. Which cards are fast amd vs nvidia?

Also, i don't really understand from the specs that is the acceleration mainly affecting rendering or also timeline playback with fx?

Rendering is not often a problem for me but smooth timeline playback is.. slow and jerky many times.

right now i'm using a radeon R9 2xx card.

Do a "Search"(=Find...) e.g. GPU + Vegas Pro 15 (Options: "Last six month") and you'll see threads like this one. Also this but you probably knew that anyway.

I posted a similar question elsewhere. Mainly about where to put the upgrade money. GPU vs CPU. It was pretty clear that CPU is the key focus for timeline performance. I too am mainly concerned about timeline performance. Sure, shorter render times are great, but I can live with what I have now. Timeline performance could be much better. I'm currently running the R9 380.

It is surprising that no one has spoken up as to whether moving to, or upgrading a Nvidia card made any appreciable difference.

@oskari-m

the most issues I read are machines using Nvidia cards with Vegas . I have AMD , and Vegas has always been reliable\stable . In Vegas Menu Options-->Preferences-->Video Tab , GPU drop down box should show your GPU . When that shows GPU , the Time Line should be GPU accelerated . In addition to that , any FX that is labeled as GPU accelerated ( some are , but not all ) , the FX that are GPU spec'd will use the GPU . Here using Vegas 14 , rendering is always CPU only , so I have no comment on VP15 for rendering .

In general , from what I have read\heard , AMD seems to have more success with Vegas .

I hate to talk about hardware eighteen months before I start picking parts for my next upgrade, but I got a mid-cycle boost from Vegas Pro 15 when support for AMD VCE hardware encoding was added. VCE and all the other ASIC encoders are supported in Happy Otter Scripts for Vegas Pro. That's the same RX480 I bought two years ago for $240.
