VEGAS Pro 18 Update 5 (build 527)

VEGASDerek wrote on 5/10/2021, 9:18 AM

Dear Community,

We have just released the fifth update for VEGAS Pro 18. Please give us your feedback in this thread.

If you already have an earlier build of VEGAS Pro 18,  there is no need to uninstall it, build 527 will overwrite your installation and retain your settings. Keep in mind that your computer will need to be online for activation after the update.

For more information, please refer to our official announcement with patch notes.

I hope you have a great rest of your week.

Sincerely,

Derek

#1 Ok, just tested (all on laptop) two R5 clips that wouldn't previously load into VP b482, they do now load and play. They are Hevc Clog 422 10 bit, IPB and ALL-I.

#2 Also I can now turn back on HW Decoding (turning OFF was a previous fix) in I/O for the R5 high data rate, (format profile 6.1) AVC, ALL-I 8bit 420 files that had previously shown either black or green preview screen.

Excellent.

Update: I may have overlooked something. Item #2, does work as long as I use Intel decoding, but Nvidia decoding doesn't work, flashing, black preview screen.

I only saw that today, I thought it might be because of using more recent updated Nvidia drivers that is now causing the problem, but not so. The Nvidia driver on my laptop is up to date and I thought that might be it, but when I checked my PC, it's an older February version, and has the issue. So I must have tested only using Intel decoding in I/O.

Well, it's nice to see the improvements, I really want Vegas to work, I like the format and easy workflow, but...

Here's where Magix let's the software down.

Video stabilization is so bad I cannot use it. (I use After Effects instead).

Motion Tracking is quite poor and in most cases I find that I have to resort to AE once again.

If Magix fixed these two Items they would have a world class NLE.

I was under the impression that Vegas Hub was also for users who purchased Vegas Post Suite. After linking the updated client and downloading the Android app, I am being told it is only for 365 subscriptions.

Edit: Diving deeper I realized I mixed Vegas Hub up with Vegas Prepare.

Which begs the question.... where has Vegas Prepare disappeared to? @VEGASDerek

IIRC, we discussed this a couple months ago, and of course, it was initially slated for release October 2020, so maybe the "management" can give us a clue now! Please :)

I have a windows 10 laptop with 2 graphic cards. Integrated Intel hd620 and nvidia geoforce 940mx. Previous build (482) was working quite well with intel only.

But now the application is running on nvidia whatever graphics processor I choose. Is there a way to ignore nvidia and make it use intel only, like previous build?

How do you know what it is running on? What does preferences/video and file io say? You should be able to change both to Intel if you want.

Custom PC (2022) Intel i5-13600K with UHD 770 iGPU with latest driver, MSI z690 Tomahawk motherboard, 64GB Corsair DDR5 5200 ram, NVIDIA 2080 Super (8GB) with latest studio driver, 2TB Hynix P41 SSD and 2TB Samsung 980 Pro cache drive, Windows 11 Pro 64 bit

Dell XPS 15 laptop (2017) 32GB ram, NVIDIA 1050 (4GB) with latest studio driver, Intel i7-7700HQ with Intel 630 iGPU (latest available driver), dual internal SSD (1TB; 1TB), Windows 10 64 bit

Both video and file io preferences are set to intel. Well the file io is set to auto(intel) but it makes no difference if set to intel.

I can see it's using nvidia in nvidia control panel. It shows vegas.exe running on this gpu. That's despite the application itself is set to use intel in nvidia control panel. If I choose to run it with nvidia then it shows 2 programs (vegas.exe twice).

So it's using the nvidia for something in both cases. That was different in previous build. I could see nothing running on nvidia. And the performance was better.

What activity do you see in Windows performance monitor for the NVIDIA? Decoding, 3D, CUDA or something else?

What media are you working with? In general Vegas works with the best GPU for the task at hand.

I don't really know what logic has changed since 482, though and use both Intel and NVIDIA with my laptop.

I will check the activity in task manager.

This is build 527

This is build 482

For now I went back to previous build. I have a simple project with several mp4 clips. Only one effect (black bar filter) on some of the clips. And some text.

I also use external monitor connected via hdmi. Could that be the culprit?

When the nvidia is used the cpu consumption is much higher.

please fix dual monitor

The obvious question that follows is - what exactly is the problem that you are experiencing with a dual monitor set-up that needs fixing?

If you are referring to a problem that may have been discussed before on the forum, it would be most helpful to provide a link to that thread.

Without an explanation about the dual monitor problem that you refer to, or a link to a previous discussion about that issue, it's really a case with this comment of, 'you know what you are talking about but nobody else does'.

Hmm, trying to check out the new Hub Explorer, but after logging in with my MAGIX account, it says "VEGAS Hub is only available to VEGAS 365 users." - even though I'm using an annual VEGAS Pro 365 subscription.

I wonder if the fact that I had a monthly subscription that I cancelled prior to switching to my current annual subscription is confusing it...

I'm aware; I was just theorising whether one of them being cancelled was confusing it, not the duration of the subscription.

Build 527 will not run on my system: Win 10 64-bit build 10.0.19042 on AMD MSI 7B79 Ryzen 7 3700x & AMD Radeon R9 360

I've tried reporting via the crash window (attached) but seems there is no response from magix support.

Have tried re-installing several times and deleting all registry keys and re-booting prior to re-installallation. Pls email me a link to the previous build that I may download, which was working. From what I gather magix in all its wisdom does not have a registered user accessible archive of older versions.
