For the release itself, it is early days, the list of bug fixes is impressive, improving performance and stability is paramount and always will supersede new features in my book, keep up the good work!

Not sure what to think of the new AI smart mask 2.0, I dabbled a bit with it (3 persons with their back to me climbing a steep hill in the woods), but that gave very mixed results (and very slow). I suppose we are not there yet for some type of footage...

I am also curious which variant of the hub features for perpetual users will be made available with regard to the different subscription variants of 365 (e.g. will they have the possibility to download curated 4K contend or only HD contend etc...) or be subject to other restrictions (maximum TTS words etc.) ...

With the hub features now added to perpetual users, I fail to see the added benefit of subscription, or am I missing something?

Just one little thing I noticed is in panning shots the preview will show some slight tearing, this remains even with wait for vertical sync enabled in preview properties. Same when CPU 770 GPU is used or RTX 4080 super.

Same if setting Vsync is set on in NVIDIA panel option for Vegas specified in program setting. Also same with latest driver 552.12. (Also V21 did not like me updating the video driver while still open).

It is not mxcompoundplug as So4compoundplug does the same.

Not present in V20.

Also does it with GPU acceleration off.

Does not do it when playing media from media tab only on timeline.

Media Sony 4K XAVCS

Same issue as Sassylola.

I also have the same problem!

RogerS wrote on 4/8/2024, 9:26 AM

I did some testing with the new build of 21 and am impressed overall. NVDEC is finally performing well (better than QSV in most cases) and HEVC I could never edit before is working well.

It also looks like the NVENC still image render bug is fixed.

I noticed a few issues that need to be worked around.

Problem 1: Automatic levels detection (full vs limited range) doesn't work with some media and MXCompound (the new decoder) resulting in clipped full range files, including Sony Slog 2 and 3, full range Canon MOV h264, GoPro Hero11 10bit HEVC, DJI HEVC, and others.

See what your camera shoots here:
https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/survey-what-min-max-levels-does-your-cam-shoot--84677/

Workaround: manually tell VEGAS if it is full range by right clicking the media and change the color range from undefined to full. Or check "enable legacy AVC decoding" in preferences file io.

Problem 2: Degraded performance of HEVC 10-bit 4:2:2
If you have an Intel iGPU which does decoding of 10-bit 422 HEVC media, you may have experience worse performance if you use a dedicated non-Intel GPU for decoding.

Workaround: Change the default decoder in preferences, file io to Intel QSV (if you have another GPU that will be the default in 21.300). However this may negatively affect decoding of other media, especially AVC.

To return performance to how it was in 21.208, enable legacy AVC and experimental HEVC in preferences, file io to return to so4compoundand AND enable the Intel iGPU under hardware decoder to use (also in file io).
Hopefully in the future it will be possible to benefit from the better dedicated GPU decoding in VP 21.300 and also benefit from Intel iGPUs for media that they work best with. Right now there is a tradeoff.

Problem 3: Unexpected [edit] luminance shifts in ACES 32-bit full mode
Workaround: Change the ACES color space to ACESCC from default in project properties. Be sure to change the media color range to full range if it is full (many log files, etc.) or it still won't work correctly. Also you still need to set the proper media color space manually for most media. You still may get images with unexpectedly high or low contrast- restarting VEGAS or going between 8-bit full and 32-bit full mode might restore a normal view.

Problem 4: Mono audio plays back at 1/2 speed
Workaround: rewrap or transcode mono audio to wav or other formats that are not opened by mxcompound.

Or enable legacy AVC in preferences/ file io if the audio is part of an AVC video file to use the old so4compound decoder.

[added] Problem 5: MXF formats don't play back properly with glitched frames or out of sync audio.
Workaround:
enable legacy AVC and experimental HEVC in preferences, file io to return to so4compound (depending on whether what is in the MXF is AVC or HEVC).

Alternatively rewrap the media to a different container with a program like ShutterEncoder.

If you have to go back to build 208, uninstall 300 first with add/remove programs.

[added] Problem 6: Poor playback and render performance with color grading panel
Workaround: Try using other Fx instead.

I didn't understand, I now have to wait half an hour until the software transcribes all the hour-long raw, just so I can extract a minute for Reels? Why not also allow the options from the old version together with the new one, that I can photograph only a pre-selected part... It just stuck with my work today...

Actually, I'm curious whether the Shake effect in this video is created by third-party plug-ins or some open source add-ons. Because Vegas doesn't possess its own Shake effect.

Hope Vegas can introduce a built-in Shake OFX with edge wrapping.

Right click on the preview window, make sure "adjust preview size and quality for optimal playback" isn't checked, and make sure your preview quality is set to preview (full) or better.

I'm sure there's an option to address the MXF issue, but I don't shoot on that format, so I'm not sure where it is.

Version 300

My render speed for 3840x2800 60 FPS GoPro files dropped from 30+ fps to around 3 fps. About 1/10 the speed.

This is with an i9-14,900K CPU and RTX A2000 Pro Graphics card...

Note: Both renders were done on the exact same edit.

RogerS - Checking 1) Enable legacy AVC decoding and 2) Enable experimental HEVC decoding only increased the FPS to about 4.72.

SOLVED - Under preferences -> File I/O - My hardware decoder needed reselected. We're good now!

It's faster :-) 45+
