Codec for old Camcorder Samsung SEDG - AVI. Can you guys open this?

dannybrowson wrote on 5/10/2019, 2:17 PM

Hi guys, I'm having trouble opening this .avi files from my very old camcorder Samsung.

Are MPEG-4 with avi envelop. Codec is SEDG.

I uploaded a little clip so you guy can help me to check if your vegas can open it.

Here is the link to download it. Is 12Mb.

Converting it in Vegas compatible format is not a solution since I have years of footage. Im planning to edit this material frequently and it will take a life to convert the files.

Can you guys help me? Do you have a good codec that I can Use?

Im using Vegas 13.0 - 64 bit on Windows 10. I tried to install common codec ffdsshow but it doesn't work.

The file you linked for download is different from the one in the MediaInfo text. Different file type, different file size.

VLC plays the file and converts it to an h264 .mp4 file playable in Vegas 16 (trial version). Won't open in V13.

@dannybrowson that will not work in my VP13, VP15, or VP16. Use the free app 'MediaER Tool Kit' to convert it and it will work fine.

Yes. Is basically the same "family". Only difference is that I've changed the file extension by renaming it just to try it on Vegas. The size is different becouse is another video.. but are all the same. I was distracted when taking the screenshot.

Thank you so much for trying to open the file. Ill try this software but as I mentioned in the topic there are too many files to be converted. I tryed with other software and basically they convert it at 1x speed. Means that to convert 10 hours of footage I need 10 hours + the work for rebuilding folder structure.

VLC plays the file and converts it to an h264 .mp4 file playable in Vegas 16 (trial version). Won't open in V13.

Thank you for tryinh to open it. I think as I've just mentioned that VLC will be same speed as other software to convert like Handbrake.

There is no way to letting Vegas read it?

Happy Otter Scripts Import Assist makes light work of it.

Even though I was using Vegas Pro 14 at the time, it works with Vegas Pro 13-453, too.

@dannybrowson your sample is 44 seconds, it took MediaER 3.5 seconds to convert it and you can batch process with this tool......your choice.

@john_dennis that is another good option, does HOS allow for batch processing, I think it does?

Wow Thank you so much. I've just installed it and is working fine! Thank you so much!!!! Amazing software. Working perfectly with the setup you suggested me on the video!
Is HappeOtter Script programmed by you? Thank you again.. I think this solution will help many people and is not very popular. For eample is not suggested here.

Is free? Do I have to pay something? Very happy now. I can start editing this very old material.

I did a quick search to find the software. Ill try it out. If is fast as you mention it can help me. For now I'm going with the solution from john_dennis. I suggest to test the Happy Otter software.

Happy Otter Scripts was/is being written by Wayne Waag. Some members of the forum had various degrees of input from trivial (myself) to quite a bit.

I can not explain why it is not listed there other than maybe the list has not as yet been updated, or perhaps because Happy Otter Scripts is still in beta.

I have used HOS and other scripts by Wayne and found them to be excellent. But, I really don't have a use for any of the options other than to help others out, so sometimes I forget it is there. However, I think overall, it makes a great addition and I will most likely purchase it when Wayne makes the version 1 release.

Like @john_dennis says Nick Hope may periodically be busy with other duties, so please note his first comment in the relevant FAQ thread. I'm sure proper "suggestions for additions via comments" there will be noted and considered in due time, especially if you add a tag @NickHope.

if you enable mpg4 decoding in ffdshow VFW (you need the 64bit version installed) you can open directly in vegas. any vegas version i believe (mine is 14 and opened with ffvfw codec)

I added HOS in a few relevant FAQ posts but overlooked that one. I will get it added when back at a computer in a day or 2.

Thank you guys

@dannybrowson

Glad you find it useful. The next version of HOS will be out in the next few days with quite a few bug ixes and some new features including a new MediaFinder tool. I am extending the beta period through 1 Aug as I intend a month long road trip starting in June (It's time to take a break when you start dreaming about coding. LOL.).

I tried to download HOS so I can import AVI files, but it does not work in Vegas 17. It say something about licence. And I could not do anything with my AVI-files.
Then I tried to uninstall HOS, and that is not possible. What kind of program is this?
I tried to uninstall my Vegas Pro, but it is still not possible to uninstall HOS.
I have Windows 10, and when I click uninstall on HappyOtterScripts for Vegas Pro, nothing happens. The program is still there...

This program is beta software.

@john_dennis

Just a note to say that I have been in contact with EH and the problem has been hopefully resolved. Turned out to be an issue with virus protection software preventing HOS from running properly.
