Crash after about 3 minutes of editing "nvopencl64.dll" error

that was from I first started this thread and one of the first things I corrected. I have actually done a clean windows install ei: format the drive ect. You system is not radically different than mine except I am running an AMD board with a 9750x CPU and 32 gigs of RAM, the video card 1160 TI. even put a vega 64 card in it only to crash, You are doing a lot more with your machine than mine. I will typically have 6 text tracks and three video tracks multicam. I wish mine was stable. I built this machine to be an editing beast and do little else with it. In fact I think I am going to change the 160 TI for a 2080 TI because I know other platform with like it should I throw in the towel on VP\. I have communicated with tech support but.. useless is being kind.. that's all I got the say about them

@joseph-desaavedra

I understand your disappointment, however i think you need to know the issue origin to be sure of the hardware to replace.

Yes the 1660Ti is less efficient than the 1080, but that could be due to the CPU, to a incomplete AMD support in Vegas or just to the drivers. Or other thing... To determinate.

If you have an other graphic card, even older, try with it.

Alas, I can't help you much more about AMD hardware, but i think that wait someone with a setup more close of yours than me and my old 2600k would be more faithful and relevant.

yeah, the AMD went back to Amazon today, I have an older NVIDIA Card about 3 years old my wife used to use in her gaming machine. I can try it in the morning to see what happens, I am going to get a 2080 TI tomorrow as I know it behaves well in resolve 16 and a lot more powerful than the 1660TI if all fails. I hate to abandon VP17 especially after paying for it, but I have to keep putting out videos as my You tube channel starts growing and the forever crashing and time consuming trouble shooting is hobbling to the point where I am falling behind. Fast food reviews are very time sensitive and there is a lot of competition. I like my videos to be well done (pun intended) and interesting to watch more than cramming food in my face. That's why my edit needs to be stable, light and easy to use. VP fits the bill except for this crashing nightmare that never ends. Thanks for taking the time to help me out. I built this machine to be an editing beast, I just don't know where I went wrong.

the old card is a GTX 970 from my wife gaming machine

going to try it and the 2080 TI

1: have only tried the 2080 TI so far as I could not resist sticking the big new card in. what I discovered was that it stuttered and the preview screen when red and it crashed almost immediately. Quicker than the 1660 TI. At this point a light bulb went on in my head. I went into task manager and checked power consumption and it said very high and was red when VP running. The PSU is a corsair 750X, should be enough right? (I do not know who the OEM is for those I prefer seasonic as they are one of the best OEMs or at least they used to be), upon pulling case apart for a dusting I noticed the fan was not turning in the PSU.. I would think that the 6 140mm case fans would do the job but who knows. A poorly performing PSU would make sense for all my symptoms although I will remain systematic. How ever I will replace the PCU with a 1000 watt unit of a good make preferably a seasonic gold.

2: After replacing the suspect PSU I will trying the 970, failing that, I will start pulling memory modules one at a time as the more I look at things it is smelling of a hardware problem at this point in time. Like Judy Judy says it needs to make sense.

Test 01.. 1000 watt power supply + 2080 TI P17, crash after adding video track and two text tracks with key framing.. on to the next test. have error report zipped if anyone wants to see it.. Next test with GTX 970, after that we start pulling memory modules one at a time. Of course video driver changed after save mode with ddu

Test 02...Well this is interesting..have not been able to crash VP17 with the MSI GTX 970

a: the preview is actually better with the gtx970, even the thumbnails are better. even the render times are not that much slower maybe 20% slower..

b: I hate to jump to conclusions after dropping about 1300 bucks on new nice hardware (which I do not regret for a second, I can always return the power supply.. NOT..) but I am beginning to feel like a misinformed unsuspecting beta tester.

c: almost certainly NOT a hardware failure, seems like the silent crew at VP needs to get their selves some elbow grease a going and finish getting this product ready for release. Makes sense why Tech "non-support" has gone silent on me. They know.

d: If anyone wants my zipped crash reports I will post a link to it shorty.. and before anyone says anything it is NOT installed on the d-drive.

e: image stabilization in the version is a simply does not work, it makes this wavy mess full of artifacts.

f: If I am wrong I will be the first to admit it.. but it ain't looking good.. and again thanks for the endless patience of you guys trying to help me trouble shoot, I need to get to practicing on Resolve as I have to keep my videos on schedule and VP17 has left me with little choice.

g: I have not tested 16 yet, hope it will work.. what a journey this has been. will update as I work through things or if I manage to get VP17 to crash..

yes.. at the start of this little trek I was using games ready and all other versions I could get my hands on.. will use 16 till I get used to the work flow in resolve.. and resolve works so smooth and the image stabilizer actually works. But I knew that as I was stabilizing in resolve and going back to VP16 to do the project, I almost never use fx just text and key framing.. I want to go out to my office and install 17 on the older box with the 1660 TI and see what happens for just for giggles.

Thanks man.. I sent another email to tech (non-support) and sort of blistered them.. oh well..

I can't have a 2080 TI sitting next to me and not have it in a machine.. just can't do it..:)

Well, given your experience and situation it would seem rolling back to Vegas 16 is the best approach - as you say. Check back with Vegas 17 after two or three bug updates. A lot will get fixed pretty quickly.

Try not to be too hard on the Magix tech guys. This is the way the software industry works these days (including the other NLE you keep mentioning.) In my day, version releases came years apart, and sometimes with huge delays. Nobody in the NLE world can afford to do this. We are all "beta testers" to some degree. Usually the worst problems are confined to a relatively tiny number of users.

joseph-desaavedra wrote on 9/5/2019, 10:52 PM

you make a good point, if they would have acknowledged there were issues, I would have been a little more forgiving and continued to work with them. I am feeling kinder since I got the 17 Icon off the desk top and my computer put back together and off the desk. When the software catches up with my hardware it should be a editing beast. :)

How do I know they have an update?

I love making my videos....will let you know if I come up with anything of the tech support guys actually respond to me..

does 17 load .veg files a lot slower than 16 when loading a project?

It is a known bug. Will be fixed in next update.

Does this mean that VP17 opens projects more slowly in general, or projects nested within projects?

As of Vegas Pro 16 Update 3 (build 352): "An update notification feature has been added in order to keep in better touch with users when new product updates and fixes are available". Check in Preferences / General : "Use Newsfeed to stay informed about VEGAS product updates". If you don't see the Splash screen about the update when you open the software, go to online Help (F1) and "Check for software updates".

The forum's News, Patches section has posts about the updates as well soon after they are released.

And the current info on when.

could someone post the link to tech support where I can start a new ticket, did clean windows 10 install, new 2080 TI, even installed all hardware drivers with internet off to keep windows 10 from putting old drivers on and still it crashes. I am going to start from scratch again as I have a pretty much clean slate to work from no other editing software or anything. seems to playback smoother but still crashing.
