Movie Studio 18 has nothing to do with Vegas Movie Studio

@ Dr Zen I think your recommendation for VMS17 users to buy VP18+VP19 for just 149$ is not correct. This 149$ is an Upgrade offer for Vpro Users and not for VMS Users.

VMS17 Users are offered an Upgrade to VP18 for just 99$, which is a real good offer and a much better offer than the offer from Magix where you pay 60$ to get an upgrade to MS18.

@3POINT, you are not correct. The upgrade for 149 euro is also for VMS users. See the website (https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/nl/upgrades-voor-vegas-pro-en-vegas-movie-studio/).

Well I apologize that I didn't read through this entire thread, but I decided to pick up the new v18 on sale and watched some vids, the interface is different, but I haven't tried it yet. I'm finishing up on one more video on v17 (I'm not bothering to specify what we know are different names) and then I will try v18. I hope it doesn't suck.

I say that even the latest build 223 is STILL crashing constantly. But I think some of the v17 updates were more stable for NEW projects. And admittedly I make very complicated videos with tons of clips, edits, and effects. But I have done this very thing many times in the past on older versions that rarely crashed.

@Dr Zen Great video Derek. Thanks.

MAGIX put VEGAS Pro 14/15/16 Edit on Humble Bundle for less than the cost of the base Movie Studio SKU, and Ignite Pro was on there, as well. Movie Studio was obsoleted for anyone paying attention (i.e. anyone who would bother to post on [or even read] these forums) years ago; and it was probably MAGIX's way of trying to get as many people as possible onto VEGAS Pro.

I think user numbers for Movie Studio Platinum have dropped to a point where the opportunity to kill it off has presented itself, and they took it... because it costs a lot to keep developing and supporting the product - even if it's a subset of VEGAS Pro Edit.

The only bad thing about this is that MAGIX literally pulled a bait and switch and didn't even let users know what was happening. They basically tried to steal their money by offering them a product that everyone would assume was an upgrade to the current application, but was a different product altogether.

This is like someone upgrading Samplitude Music Studio and getting ACID Music Studio. These two NLEs are about that much alike.

Boy Dr. ZEN... the Spanish VMS version is fantastic . You just nail it with every sentence. I think in the forum I'm the nearest to the Suez canal, I'm on my way for C64...

Thanks @FayFen 😍😂😎
I'm glad you understood my sense of humour. The South Park video might be a bit much for sensitive people, but Spanish guy reacts... is definitely my favourite as well!
When I was making the video yesterday on Sunday (Australian time), I felt like some divine intervention was occurring and I was actually channelling from the minds of 100 people all thinking about the same thing.

I always regret that my parents sent our family Commodore 64 to the tip, when they had a big clean up in 2001. We use to own a Commodore 64 floppy drive as well - which was super deluxe, back in the day.

The download under the upgrade-tab works pretty weell. I am a VMS-user and just upgrade for the Eur 149 incl the later expected V19 Pro

@ AllieB Congratulations, that's an extremely good deal to upgrade from VMS to VP18 and upgrade next month also to VP19. Those wo upgraded to MS18 will bite their ass...

Here a twist, even as I'm a registered VMS16P user , I get daily magix spam for MEP21 but never did I get any for "The spanking new top notch MS18" which is the same ...

Reyfox wrote on 7/19/2021, 11:26 AM

@FayFen MS18 is suppose to support importing VMS projects sans effects. There is no such claim for that with MEP 2021....

@Dr Zen

I can't thank you enough for your thorough exposé of the debacle with recommendations, including your excellent video, which everyone should watch! It's all right up there in the top shelf with all your years of efforts! I took your advice: Stay calm (not easy), if desired d/l trial version only (at first I was thinking about it, but realized I want nothing to do with it for both learning curve and principle...including love for VMS), and decided to take the Vegas Pro 18/19 deal.

Now I have a simple classic question: Will Vegas Pro co-reside with VMSP 17?

Again, Mega Thanks!

Fred

Of course VMS and VP can live happily on the same computer!

3POINT wrote on 7/19/2021, 12:30 PM

Also your ongoing VMS projects can be opened, edited and finished with Vpro18/19.

My guess (and this is only a guess as I really don't have much of any idea how they are trying to market this) is that MS 18 is only being marketed in North America at this point. MEP and VideoDeluxe are marketed and sold in other parts of the world.

I've a NZ email address and get the MS18 marketing. But with the Magix web pages I use the USA page.

john-brown wrote on 7/19/2021, 8:53 PM

@sasiuk would be able to tell you if MS18 is being marketed in French.

Vegas Pro 18 Edit, Vegas Movie Studio 16 Platinum, Magix Video Pro X16, Magix Movie Studio Platinum 2024, Xara Designer Pro X19, Samplitude Pro X8 Suite, Music Maker 2025 Premium, SF Audio Cleaning Lab 4, Sound Forge Pro 16 and more.

Dr Zen wrote on 7/19/2021, 9:51 PM

I also received a marketing email from Magix today and I live in Australia!
This is hilarious. The sender was from Video Deluxe Plus.
But it was promoting Movie Edit Pro 2021 Plus, which I already own.
That's what we call in Australia, an each way bet, to increase your odds at winning.

I've already had enough of wasting time on this topic. It is a complete unwanted distraction and taking time and energy away from completing tasks that actually help people. Today I shared a little more about how this change has affected myself personally. I just wrote a new reply that some of you may like to read. It's not the fault of Magix Movie Edit Pro/Video Deluxe that this event happened/(didn't happen?). It's not fair to bash the actual program, which other editors use and love. What I reveal today in my new post linked below, is that I was actually planning to start teaching and promoting Magix Movie Edit Pro to my Vegas Movie Studio audience and offer it as a possible replacement for Vegas Movie Studio. My plans are now on hold, because I'm parked next to a black hole that is gaining strength. I hope Scotty can find enough power in the reverse thrusters to save as all 😂😂😂
