By starting my program this morning a message popped up there is a new update.
It becomes also automatically downloaded and installed after I confirmed that message.
Very good new behaviour of the program and the makers

The update failed for me - vegas apparently can't force-closed its own app. I'm looking for the 500MB! update files and can't find them on my PC - where are they so I can do this myself? And it keeps re-downloading 500MB! very slowly and then failing the update - tried immediately installing and tried deferring until the program is closed - both are no-go
I tried only deferring and the update installed OK. I'd expect the "official update announcement" in Forum News/ Patches pretty soon. Hopefully there's a direct link as before.
@ken-dehoff As @j-v says, if you go into your account, you can download the small update installer, then all of the programs will be found in c: users documents when you download and install.
Yes, that "download manager" will fetch a much larger main installer for the current release (build 424) (and other bundled plugins and apps).
Opened my VP16 and got the automatic update that way. It downloaded and installed without a problem.
We've always been able to download the complete version .exe file in the past. Hopefully there is a way to do that now?

I also couldn't get the download to work from within Vegas, but went to my products, downloaded the installer and it worked fine.

A new wrinkle. Just downloaded the update. Went to the screen to activate. It now tells me that I have reached the maximum number of activations. I've only got 2 devices (desktop and laptop). I was always under the impression that we were allowed (at least) 2 activations, but the program is insisting that I deactivate one. Suggestions?
Solution: Even though I only had 2 activations (desktop and laptop), I de-activated one and re-activated it and it worked fine from that point.
I think it has to do with the name in Windows you gave it in your system settings that is read by that activation.
That name you see in your Magix account for the activations.
As a solution for your problem you can de-activate the name that was possible used earlier and after that activate you software again on that particular computer.
That's the way I did it succesfully with my new laptop where I installed Windows 15 some time ago.
New update, new problems. All the video in the project timeline now was previously rendered by Vegas Pro 16. At least I got the options to send debug info the Magix this time.(not that it ever helped in the past.) Usually the application just hangs and no option to send anything.

After taking 10 minutes to download the update file from within the program, I closed the program to "install on restart" (since that was given as an option) so I restarted and got an error window saying "can't find such file blahblahvegaspro update.exe" so I closed the error window and restarted the program and am now waiting 10 more minutes to download the update file yet again---wherever it is being saved hahaha---why is this the same nonstarter---pun intended---happening as happened with the /last/ update when I finally had to go to a direct update file download link---which is not provided for this update?
this time I said install install install do not defer... held breath... omg it installed /fans face briskly/ will it start will it start yes yes yes : )
New update, new problems. All the video in the project timeline now was previously rendered by Vegas Pro 16. At least I got the options to send debug info the Magix this time.(not that it ever helped in the past.) Usually the application just hangs and no option to send anything.

Posting all that in this thread does nobody any good. Your post will get lost among a million others, and nobody will ever get around to helping you. Make a new thread about your problem, and when doing so follow the guidelines present in the sticky threads at the top of the forums so we have all the info we need to help you (what you pasted above isn't enough). That way we can keep track of your replies and actually get to the bottom of your issue.

Then provide us the info it asks for (Mediainfo report, project settings, system specs, type of media used and where it came from, etc.) in a NEW THREAD. We can't help you in this thread, there are far too many other people posting.
After taking 10 minutes to download the update file from within the program, I closed the program to "install on restart" (since that was given as an option) so I restarted and got an error window saying "can't find such file blahblahvegaspro update.exe" so I closed the error window and restarted the program and am now waiting 10 more minutes to download the update file yet again---wherever it is being saved hahaha---why is this the same nonstarter---pun intended---happening as happened with the /last/ update when I finally had to go to a direct update file download link---which is not provided for this update?

Update went smoothly for me. Tried the new h265 support on a Canon xf705 h265 mxf recording and no go. Copied the mxf h265 video stream into a mov wrapper w/ffmpeg and then Vegas recognized the mov file, correctly identified the streams, allowed droping the clip onto a timeline, and even displayed the 1st few frames correctly. But crapped out about 1/3 of the way mid-clip displaying green in the preview pane before hanging.
Installed fine for me too. Main thing I was looking for was improved thumbnail performance for Project Media storyboards - so far looks much faster! I look forward to checking out the other fixes/improvements over the next few days.
