VEGAS Movie Studio 14.0 build 105 - Known Issues & Update ETA

NickHope wrote on 3/28/2017, 6:47 AM

Here are some commonly-reported issues in VEGAS Movie Studio 14.0 build 105. It is not a definitive list of all Movie Studio known issues.

  1. Disable Resample is unavailable. Magix' response (working in the next update).
  2. AVCHD video with 5.1 audio (.m2ts files) won't open. Magix' (reported) response (fixed in next update). Workaround via earlier version. Workaround via Device Explorer.
  3. Bottom of Render As dialog box is truncated on some systems, making the "Render" & "Cancel" buttons (and in some cases the "Name" field) unavailable. Magix' response (also below - fixed in next update). Workaround in the meantime is to use ENTER to render and ESC to cancel.
  4. Movie Studio says "DVD Architect not installed", even though it is. Magix' response (fixed in next update).
  5. Sony AVC/MVC audio is just noise if a custom template created in a previous version is used. Workaround is to recreate the template in Movie Studio 14.
  6. Presets list is missing off the left side of the Track Motion window. Magix' response (fixed in next update).
  7. Active Take Information is difficult to read (grey on white). Magix' response (acknowledged).
  8. When right-clicking meters on an audio track header, "Use Vertical Meters" and "Show Output Meters" cannot be unchecked. Magix' response (fixed in next update).

The next update is expected in the first week of May.

If you think something should be added to this list, please provide or link to evidence and a Magix response, if there has been one.

Thanks Nick. It should also be noted that some things e.g. I see as issues may be intentional.

But I certainly hope this thread turns out to be a wrong alarm.

Not sure you got those links quite right, but if you mean the "Use Vegas color scheme" and "Expand track layers" options being dropped, I've generally kept the list to bugs (things Magix wouldn't have intended and are likely to fix) rather than try to create a changelog.

The main point of this is to give us a post to refer to people to when they raise the same issues over and over. Perhaps some will even think to look at the list before posting.

Will look out for that thumbnails issue appearing on this forum.

Yes, that was my point actually as well. And I suggest MVMS/P 14 users should read the whole of this article to get some insight of the devs' priorities.

Thanks Nick, that's clear enough. 1, 2 & 7 are all good to see (especially 1) Is 3 also up for a next update fix - it doesnt say.

Sorry, I don't know and have no inside information. I just compiled what is available on the public forum. Magix didn't state that issue would be fixed in the next update, just that they will work on a fix for it.

I'm really excited for the next update, The features in VMS14 are cool, but I really need to get rid of the Resample for gameplay. Hope it comes out soon!

An issue that is not mentioned here is that rightclicking on the audio tracks the "Use Vertical Meters" and "Show Output Meters" cannot be unchecked... seems like an easy to fix one... :)

I don't think the update had came out yet. In Ms13 the update installed while opening the program, Im assuming its the same for Ms14.

Read the announced policy going forward regarding notifications and some clarifications regarding the old policy in Nick's comment on relevant points here and the comment below it. I don't assume much but I expect the MS product line to follow suit.

Another two things that need fixing are in the Audio Track control box on timeline.

If you right-click the Audio Meters, there are 2x options which cannot be turned off, even though there is a selection box available to choose between the on/off state. Audio Meters are far more useful when shown Horizontally - stuck in the vertical state is useless.

*Use Vertical Meters
*Show Output Meters

Also, the keyboard shortcut D for cycling through the different Timeline Edit Modes, is not working properly. If you first set the Edit Mode = Normal Edit Mode and then keep pressing D, it should cycle through each edit mode but does not return back to Normal Edit Mode. Instead it gets stuck on Zoom Edit Tool and refuses to move back to Normal Edit Mode.

Magix confirmed that this will be fixed in the next update (4 comments above yours). I added it to the OP.

I've hit a bug, but I'd appreciate it if someone else could check to see if this problem happens to them before I raise this as an issue?

Run Vegas Studio, and open the SonicFire Pro 6 plug-in. Close Vegas Studio and shut down your PC without closing SonicFire (easily missed). When you restart your PC and run Vegas Studio all should be fine. However, when you try to open the SonicFire plug-in, it will probably crash Windows. This can be fixed by running SonicFire as standalone, and re-registering it.

If normal protocol is followed then there will be an announcement in the News forum linking to the download. However don't be surprised if some bright spark links to it on this forum before Magix have made the announcement, having found it from their Magix account or the regular installer.

Does Movie Studio 14 have this Newsfeed option in the general preferences, the same as Vegas Pro 14 build 244 and later? If so then you may well get news of a new update from that, but it might be days after the build is available, as it was for the Vegas Pro build 252 update.

Cornico wrote on 4/21/2017, 3:26 AM

The Newsfeed option exist also in Vegas Movie Studio.
When switched off the "Help/Check for News" function is greyed out and will also not work anymore.

Mercalli V2 does not seem to included in Movie Studio 14 Suite. Yet the website says its included. Can somebody raise this with MAGIX. The support so far has been unhelpful, claimed that the legacy vegas stabilizer is Mercalli V2,  which I really doubt.

The support claimed that the legacy vegas stabilizer is Mercalli V2,  which I really doubt.

You must have a reason for your doubt.
Tell us this reason, because I know that the Stabilize FX of VPro and VMS Pl is the same, works great and is from result exactly the same as the standalone Prodad Mercalli V2.

VMS Suite include VMS Platinum as you can see on the screenshot.

Vegas Movie Studio Platinum has this Image Stabilisation powered by Mercalli V2

No Cornico, Mercalli V2 is not included in your screenshot.  The "reason for my doubt" is that Mercalli V2 is not visible to me, I cannot find it. In my purchase from Magix, this was not included, and I suspect nobody got it. Please could you, or anyone, show me a screenshot of Mercalli V2 running inside Movie Studio 14 Platium or Suite.  Thanks.
