Does Version 15 still have the audio track visible in the trimmer? I asked this question and still no answer as this thread keeps growing.

Yes, drag the horizontal splitter between the video monitor and the Trimmer timeline to adjust the height of the timeline. Hover your mouse over the border to see the splitter.

My experience with VMS15 sofar:

On the same PC VPro14, Vpro15 and VMS14 have no problem...

First, second, third, fourth, fifth and so on....

3POINT wrote on 2/26/2018, 3:26 PM

I don't have this problem on my laptop, which also has SeMW installed.

I will give it a try tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure 15 Platinum will co-exist with 14 Platinum, but
will the 15 Suite co-exist with (i.e. not overwrite) 14 Suite?

EricLNZ wrote on 2/26/2018, 6:03 PM

The Suite contains MS Platinum plus other fancy items. MS Platinum 15 should happily co-exist with MS Platinum 14. But with the other various FX items that's a minefield. I wouldn't expect them to overwrite your existing FX items but your MS14 items may not work in 15. This has been the topic of much discussion in the Pro Forum.

With DVDA you should get updated to the recent minor "tidy up" build 84. Also Music Maker may be a later version, if you already have it. This may, or may not, update your current version.

vkmast wrote on 2/26/2018, 6:16 PM

As Eric says. Only the builds/updates of a version overwrite the previous build.

Thanks. I haven't downloaded it yet - probably the trial but I'm most likely going to get the upgrade.
I haven't used many of the external apps and not too many of the Fx. I assume I could reinstall 14 or uninstall 15 to keep going in my production?.

OK, dumb question - what is DVDA?

vkmast wrote on 2/26/2018, 6:21 PM

DVDA is VEGAS DVD Architect, the Blu-ray and DVD Disc™ Authoring software. It's included with Platinum and Suite.

Many of us have several versions of Platinum and/or Suite installed.

Overwrite previous "build" (e.g. 152) or previous "version" (e.g. 14)?

Thanks! I do have 11 Suite and that's intact, but that was Sony, this is 1st time with Magix.

vkmast wrote on 2/26/2018, 6:30 PM

Builds are updates like #122 and #148 in MS 14 Platinum. Version 15 is an upgrade from the previous version and a separate install, which does not overwrite v 14.

If you have VMS 11 Suite, it included DVD Architect Studio 5. VEGAS DVD Architect is more "Pro". Magix did not continue to release two different Architects.

Got it. Not too worried about it. I haven't needed it since 11.
The only things may be the Fx, but again, haven't used any special ones yet.

Thanks everybody for the immediate answers already tonight!
This is the best video forum I remember, even back to the days of (gasp) Pinnacle Studio!

Got it. Again, I'm not concerned about DVDAS and the other standalone apps since I don't use them.
I'm wondering about some of the Fxs. As EricLNZ said above: But with the other various FX items that's a minefield. I wouldn't expect them to overwrite your existing FX items but your MS14 items may not work in 15. This has been the topic of much discussion in the Pro Forum.

Looking at the MS15 features comparison it appears that the fancy extras are new to MS so there are no previous versions for them to over-write.

vkmast wrote on 2/26/2018, 11:52 PM

As Eric said, "I wouldn't expect them to overwrite your existing FX items but your MS14 items may not work in 15." That's because some extras may be version-specific, i.e. restricted by the 3rd party to that version (e.g. v 14 in this case) or watermarked in later versions. That "has been the topic of much discussion in the Pro Forum."

I just started using v14 Platinum, and I thought that once I installed it - using the internet to validate - I could disconnect from the internet and situate the desktop computer in my studio, never to "see" the internet again (so malware wouldn't damage my files or corrupt the whole computer). Boy was I wrong! Had to move the computer and reconnect to the net to import files that Studio is supposed to support, had to repeat the process to send a project to Studio (I still haven't successfully made a DVD) even though Studio makes the files in the format Architect needs. What else will I need the net for? And will I have to repeat the process for v15? Why don't the programs have all the codecs they need?

And although v14 (or someone on the forum?) said to install Quicktime in order to import .mov files, that didn't work, and it corrupted Windows File Explorer. I never had these issues with v10. It shouldn't be this difficult!

Ken.G. wrote on 2/27/2018, 12:33 AM

... but I must say that the program is blazingly fast ... just should be a smoother installation.

@Ken.G. It's more cost-effective to activate some codecs only when the user actually uses them. This helps make Vegas viable and therefore have a future. See #10 in this post for some codecs that require additional activation in Vegas Pro: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-faqs-and-troubleshooting-guides--104787/ I suppose they are similar in Movie Studio, although it may not include all those codecs.

Hello all Vegas Movie Studio 15 Platinum users/testers 😉
So like everyone else here, I have been taking v15 for test drive.

I seem to have found an issue in the File Explorer window, which I would like others to test and confirm.
Problem: Thumbnail creation speed in the File Explorer window is painfully slow and grinds to a halt, the more folders I open.

I performed 3x tests with Vegas MSP15, Vegas MSP14 and Vegas Pro 15.
Only Vegas MSP15 is being very slow.
Vegas MSP14 and Vegas Pro 15 produce thumbnails fast and continue to do so with no slow downs or pauses.

Special Note about So4 plugin: Turning the So4 compound plugin off or on, makes no difference.
In my Vegas Pro 15 test, So4 was turned ON, and thumbnails produce at good speed.

Before the start of these tests, I re-booted my computer, to make sure no other programs were hogging memory. I also emptied the File Explorer Thumbnail Cache for each program.

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Movie Studio Platinum\15.0\File Explorer Thumbnails
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Movie Studio Platinum\14.0\File Explorer Thumbnails
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\15.0\File Explorer Thumbnails

I have uploaded a video to YouTube, which shows what happens during the 3x tests.
Can other testers replicate this problem ?

I turned monetisation off for this video, but ads are still showing. Sorry if this happens for you.

Regards
Derek

so4compoundplug.dll renders thumbnails slower than compoundplug.dll. I guess if that codec has been included in VMS15 then you can disable it as described here: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/new-avc-xavc-s-issues-in-vp15-try-disabling-so4compoundplug-dll--108345/ Is it enabled or disabled in your Vegas Pro 15?

Maybe I'm missing something but how do you float the windows?? There's not the usual dots that you grab.

Also had a problem getting Video Preview and Master Bus to both show at the same time. Shutting down MS15 then reopening solved it fortunately.
