I don't like the fact that you can not buy a permanent license anymore. What 's the difference with Adobe premiere now?

You still can buy a permanent license.

You still can buy a permanent license.

Just above the 'Buy Now' button and the price, there is a twistee just to the right of the '12 months, billed annually' offer. Click on the twistee and a little window opens with a choice of 4 purchase options, subscribe annually or monthly, and make a new purchase or upgrade.

It's sort of hidden compared to how it was previously. I wonder why? Some prospective purchasers, especially viewing on a small screen, might like lemagicienduson, get the impression it's subscription only and move on. In my opinion a bad marketing move.

@EricLNZ ... +1

It took me a while to realise that there was a drop down menu for the purchase/subscription options, and I was using a 32" screen (and I've got fairly new prescription glasses which I got during a rare pause in between our seemingly never-ending lockdowns - number 6 at the moment - and 200 days in total. The current joke is: Q: What's the worst thing about a 7 days snap circuit-breaker lockdown? A: The first 3 to 4 weeks).

I get the impression that Vegas Pro 19 marketing is very much weighted to the subscription model. Even the comparison page is weighted that way - as is the default purchase option. It would be much better if the comparison page was far more detailed and aimed at fully informing potential purchasers about what they get with the various subscription and perpetual options - something many companies like iZotope do very well. As an example, iZotope's RX8 comparison chart:

https://www.izotope.com/en/products/rx/features.html#compare

There is no question about what comes with the various versions of RX8.

Come on MAGIX. Enough of the obfuscation and marketing 'trickery' - it will do your company no favours in the long run.

@Dexcon Totally OT but from memory you're in the big country and it's now jumped over the Tasman so we're in lockdown again!

@EricLNZ ... yep! NZ and MEL can both thank SYD - the gold standard NSW has reversed the alchemy process and turned it's reputation into rusty iron.

Back on topic - I tried the trial version of VP19 for a while today and ended up buying Edit. I don't need Stream and I've already got Sound Forge Pro 15 and Primate Studio in BCC 2021.5.

I'll still be finishing a long existing project in VP18 (started in 17) because timeline playback on the same project has more stuttering in 19 than in 18 - even if reducing from good to preview in 19's preview window (going to Preview made no difference). Not really a problem because the project is happily nearing its edit end.

Edit: I should add that the project I am referring to did not play all that well in VP18 b527 but did just fine in b482 - which is what I am currently using. But I suspect that it plays a bit better in VP19 than in VP18 b527 - from b527 memory only.

Very good work guys, with my ancient Q6600 (a 2007 CPU) and a Radeon RX460 I can apply a ton of real time Effects GPU based in small videos of the phone and play them in real time with no problem. In previous version demos the timeline were not as fluid as this one.

I still prefer to render using vouk, because this tool makes the final video the same size of the project by default, something that I aways have consider strange that vegas do not have this more logic output by default. This could make the output a bit difficult for casual users.

I still recomend converting vegas in a full MIDI COMPOSE and AUDIO tool, the only way you can compete with the big guys. Some of the code is already written, you need to make this happen in a future.

I think I am going to upgrade from my 15 version I am really pleased with this version.

Red screen indicates a GPU issue and isn't something that's been reported much. I suggest you start your own thread and see if there's a way to fix it rather than waiting. Performance-wise it's similar to 18 for me.

Glad to see the upgrade price. Best initial upgrade price in memory. Even lower than the Sony days. Pure speculation but I see Magix going only subscription next year. They're steering people pretty hard in that direction. In the meantime, for present Vegas owners, ALL ABOARD. No reason not to upgrade unless you're flat out broke.

I've heard the internal discussions going on, and I've heard absolutely nothing that would indicate this is true. Their perpetual model is still working for them, they have no reason to abandon it. The only reason you see a push for 365 is because it is enabling some cool new online features you cannot do in a perpetual license (services, like the new content library we can pull stock video and music from, the AI text to speech translator, the cloud storage, and more cool features that are planned for the future). Beyond that, features that do not require a connection to work will still be in the perpetual versions.

Download the demo and see for yourself. Be sure to use the utility in the vegas help menu to ensure you have the latest GPU driver before you begin your testing.

I cannot guarantee anything, but I do not think we would do that at any point in the foreseeable future. With our team moving toward a continuous delivery model, however, what a perpetual license looks like will likely need to change a bit. Going strictly to a full subscription model would probably devastate our revenue...at least in the short term.

All that said, pushing users to a subscription allows us to provide exciting cloud based features such has VEGAS Content and Text to Speech.

joseph-w wrote on 8/19/2021, 2:13 PM

Any chance of getting the old "light" color back it has changed 😰

Testing the trial and so far it "feels" good to me. I used to have an issue where the preview window would play out of sync w/ my 2nd monitor preview display (and output). My work around was the adjust the sync offset for the preview window. Something in this new version resolved the issue I was having w/ the preview window so that's fantastic.

But yea as the above user, I too really wish there was a way to go back to the exact color scheme used in 17/18. Maybe it's because I have Red/Green color deficiency (like 8% of men) but I'm having a very difficult time setting up a display setting for "Light" where the audio waveform is visible to me both when selected or not. I'm not finding an option to change the color of the wave-form - or if nothing else default "Track Display Color" to the same one for each audio track.

Also is there a way to make the "Visible Button Set" on each track transparent again? W/ them having square colors around them it just adds my clutter for my eyes. Hope there's a legacy color scheme although after checking internals I'm not optimistic.

Overall I think it's a nice upgrade aside from the color/UI changes. I'm going to work w/ it for a few days and see if I get used to that.

Thanks.

VEGASDerek wrote on 8/19/2021, 2:38 PM

@joseph-w: thank you for the feedback on the wave form color and track colors (and other details). We have heard more than a couple of people expressing concern with the change to the darker wave form color. We debated a lot on these things and the beta testers saw us trying out several different options for colors in the application. In general, the UI will be continued to be refined and we will be looking to take user feedback into account as our UX expert looks into continuing to modernize the VEGAS interface.

Some people complain just because it is different, but every decision we make in regards to the UI is not done for the sake of change. Feedback like the Red/Green color deficiency concerns are important for us to hear about.

Again, thank you for your feedback.
