Is it possible to have track fx applied before event fade-ins and fade-outs?

for example:
I am using an auto levels plugin in the track fx and I want to use fades on the events.
Naturally, the plugin cancels out the fades and this leads to unwanted posterization.

I'd like to be able to make these track fx behave like event FX do and be applied before any event fades.

ASIO Komplete Audio 6 problem still unresolved... 🙁

This info appear always after render, when I use ASIO audio device type (Komplete Audio 6). And I have to use Windows Classic Wave Driver (more latency then asio).

The new feature for switching to/from a proxy requires the same file extension to find a match in a separate folder for the proxy files. I was hoping to just copy GoPro .MP4 and .LRV files into the same folder and switch them by matching on the file name proper without a matching file type. It's still a great feature, but it takes time to rename all the .LRV files and create a separate folder for them.

  • From the Render As dialog box, you can now swap all of your project media video files for video files with the same names (but potentially different file extensions) enabling you (for example) to work with proxy files on your timeline and switch to the full-resolution files to render. After the render completes, the files are swapped back.
  • A new option in the Project Media window enables you to swap all of your project media video files for video files with the same names (but potentially different file extensions) at any time

I am a bit confused with these new features, I read the sentences, but as we say (translated from Dutch) "my penny does not drop", can someone enlighten me?

I read somewhere that the Panasonic GH5 HDR contains HLG tags. If that is true, does Vegas recognize them?

The GH5 does shoot HLG HDR formats, which I expect will become popular formats as more people adopt HDR TV sets. The GH5 also shoots V-LOG L format which can be used to output HDR formats in post like HDR10.

Prior versions of Vegas allowed Frame Advance & Previous Frame buttons to be held down rather than continuously clicking to move frame by frame.  Why is this not available in 15. Also, hate dropdown menu in preview to access these buttons.

@gerdagerd I don't think so. I think you'd have to apply the FX at event or media level. You can use Paste Event Attributes or Selectively Paste Event Attributes to speed up the process of applying it.

@mateuszszar This issue seems to have been around for a long time. andyzou says he resolved the same issue with a driver update.

My timecode hasn't been showing ever since I updated and I have completely forgotten where to even start looking for the answer. I have the Vegas Timecode FX entered and checked in my video output FX panel and now noticed that my timeline ruler at the top is ghosted and can't remember how to turn it on. I have double clicked on the ruler directly and on top of the header to no avail. All I can remember was that it was simple once I was told where to look (Help text hasn't been of help right now).I have checked Generate Timecode under Options which does nothing. Thus I have exhausted all options I can think of and the little I found in the Help menu.Does anyone here have the answer for me? Thanks in advance.

Thanks @Nick. But I have the latest drivers (https://www.native-instruments.com/en/support/downloads/drivers-other-files/ -> KOMPLETE AUDIO 6 -> 4.2.0 driver from 25.11.2015)

I reported this to Native Instruments, but they claim that this is not the foult of the driver, ondly handling ASIO by the program. Other programs (eg Cakewalk-Sonar) do not have this problem.

The only solution for now - use Windows Classic Wave Driver... :/

I have now tested other projects first opening then in the previous build of 15 and then in the current, new one. In all cases the Timecode can be activated in the older version but never in the latest version (216). Would someone be so kind and test this for me? Can you activate the display of a timecode in Vegas 15, version 216 to either verify or dispute my claim that this is likely a bug?

NickHope wrote on 10/6/2017, 9:02 PM

@Paul-Fierlinger Timecode FX as a Video Output FX is working OK for me in VP15 build 216:

I don't know what might cause this not to work. Does it happen on a brand new project?

Bitman, you know about the Vegas proxy feature? If you have low frame rate in edit, Vegas will build a low-resolution version of the file so you can edit smoothly.

This is similar, but you supply the low-resolution file with the same name in a different folder. When you use either option, a window pops up to select where the low-resolution files are, and it matches by name.

For GoPro, I had to rename the .LRV extension to .MP4 to fully match the full-resolution file name. Perhaps the extensions don't have to match if more popular extensions like .AVI, .MPG, etc.

I like this new feature because Vegas-created proxy files are too low-res to see clearly enough in small windows in multicam mode.

Paul-Fierlinger wrote on 10/6/2017, 10:04 PM

Thank you Nick for responding. My setup looks pretty much the same as yours except that my Timecode format is 24 fps film. I am stumped and being able to have the timecode visible on screen is quite important to me since as an animator I work in a frame count world. BTW I did test starting a new project and it makes no difference.

I wonder if it makes sense to seek help directly from MAGIX but it's pretty predictable that their feedback will be along the lines of yours. Strange that I am experiencing this anomaly only in V 15.0 (216).

NickHope wrote on 10/6/2017, 10:18 PM

@Paul-Fierlinger For what it's worth, I just tested at 24p and it's OK here.

It's always worth submitting a support request for something like this. They don't take long and you might be lucky, especially if yours is not the only one on this issue.

Paul-Fierlinger wrote on 10/6/2017, 10:52 PM

HA! That indeed helped, Nick. As I started writing what my problem is, suggestions began to pop up until I found the one I needed to know. The squirrel was in the Split Screen View button. Clicking on this button works like a toggle switch; now I see the code, now I don't. Something tells me I had this already happen to me a long, long time ago and one of the old timers pointed me to that button. Thank you for your time and patience.

There does seem to be a bug in the Timecode display however. It isn't possible for me to create a smaller display without having the default, huge display, also visible. The effect of this is that now I have two overlapping sizes ; my small one showing on top of the unremovable very large one. Just me or others are experiencing the same?

Kinvermark wrote on 10/7/2017, 8:35 AM

Any chance you have one effect applied to the track and one to the event?

Paul-Fierlinger wrote on 10/7/2017, 8:55 AM

Yes, you are right. The default (large one) seems to be applied to one track in which I have overlays. How do I delete the Timecode from that track?

bitman wrote on 10/8/2017, 4:43 AM

@wilri001 thanks, I know about proxies, but never bothered (or needed) to use them (yet) on my system. That may change when using 4k, perhaps. I mostly get by switching on/off fx or change temporary the view quality for the more heavy edited pieces. Any new feature added is good anyway.
