Just wanted to clarify. I know there is a current "buy Vegas Pro 17 and get Vegas Pro 18 free" promotion. If I purchased Vegas Pro 18 on 9 June 2020, will I get Vegas Pro 18 for free, too? Thanks for any clarification.

I doubt it given that the offer commenced only a few days ago, and there doesn't seem to be a rider which says it also applies to purchases since [date]. But you could always contact MAGIX Sales and ask them so as to get an official answer.

Something like Sony Catalyst Prepare?

that's my guess, a media ingesting/sorting app.

Well, that would be something quite interesting for me... will wait and see what materializes in the coming weeks. I think I mentioned previously that the newest versions of KYNO support a "send to... (various NLE's) function" and that this is a bit of a market gap that can perhaps be exploited by Vegas too.

Are they going to have another update of VP17 before then? I really hope so, because I'm still waiting on the 4096x2160 issue to be resolved.

@70 perhaps I've grown out of the "need new equipment syndrome". There were a couple of things I was going to start saving for, but with the notice of V18 I realize that most of my time spent in my video hobby is in Post. So my piggy bank will lose a little weight when V18, as so far every upgrade has result in a better work flow for me. No program is perfect but if you look at the growth from V13 to V17, it is well worth every upgrade. Looking forward to the upgrade and will wait a bit longer for the new gear (after all I do have 3 cameras using Cinelike V/D and one with Vlog, perhaps a bit much).

Magix waiting to see what V18 does for my work flow. Yes, I am a fan boy.

I wish they'd announce:

(because there's nothing wrong with the feature set, and features can always be added),

There is an offer to get Vegas Pro 18 for free with Vegas 17, but... what is new in vegas 18? We don't have all the details. I find it very strange strange to ask potential customers to pay without revealing what they will get.

Vegas Pro 18 is just a teaser. Magix is selling you 17 and it's clear what's in it. If you just want to buy 18, wait for 18 to be fully announced.

+1. It's just part of the "soft pull" marketing Magix like to do. Same as before; not really a big deal when you know what to expect.

I am excited to see what the do with this "Vegas Prepare" application (or functionality). Sounds like they may have decided to borrow workflow ideas from the Catalyst suite. I liked the idea of that workflow; but not the rental plan.

I hope Vegas Pro 18 is free or heavily discounted for anyone whom purchased Pro 17 in the past 6-12 months. I purchased 17 on the 25/1/20 and am hopeful Magix will look after us.

Dexcon wrote on 7/6/2020, 8:21 PM

Realistically, the only VP17 owners who will get VP18 free are those who buy/bought VP17 under the current 'buy VP17 and get VP18 when released in August' offer. Otherwise, there will no doubt be an upgrade offer for existing owners of Vegas Pro as there has been with the release of new versions in the past.

A new version comes out every August, so no way they would give a free upgrade for "past 6-12 months." Typically "edit" version has been offered as low as $150 for upgrade fee.

yeah, exactly, you wish. no no no. new features, old structure actual crashes.

magix really expect that people will stick to their system if they just add ob new code and tools to their old software and get along with the crashes and terrible 10bit footage workflow performance...

From their comments here and updates to 17 you can see Magix understands there are stability problems, especially with the GPU.

I expect 18 will be more stable and perform better. We'll find out soon when it's released.

I don't think Magix and Vegas team should rely on that too much, not anymore. Even though all these past four -five years people have been happy there is a Vegas Pro at all, I think more and more are now interested in seeing a competitive and up-to-date product.

So, I hope version 18 will prove to be just that, a proper alternative to the big guys.

The biggest issue is getting the Nvidia GPUs to work reliably without constantly crashing the program. Vegas seems incapable of flushing the memory of my GTX 1660 Ti properly: (1) it utterly crashes after utilizing Dynamic RAM preview (of 4K material) for more than 20 minutes; (2) the new Nvidia studio drivers supposedly are now more compatible with VP17 -- but not for me: Now I can't even render Magix HEVC or AVC without an error message, or the Renderer timing out at 93% after 4 hours; (3) accessing/creating Nested Timelines often crash the program when GPU is turned on.

NVIDIDA GPU IMPLEMENTATION NEEDS TO BE FIXED & STABILIZED PRONTO.

Have you tried changing gpu processing to intel if you have intel or OFF when rendering? That might fix it crashing when rendering if it's related to the Nvidia GPU memory leak, and vegas crashing due to lack of memory

adimatis wrote on 7/7/2020, 9:28 AM

I had (and have) various issues with GPU accelerated.

If I disable it - all fine. But then, what's the point of having a nice GPU if it stays unused?

In some other thread, someone said the purpose of disabling GPU was to make sure the respective problem is related to GPU - well, IT IS. I do not have to disable it all the time to learn that indeed GPU needs better implementation.

Hope that v18 will fix it.

One encouraging fact is that I am now able to use the latest nVidia driver with build 421. I don't know if it was Vegas fixing something or nVidia, but at least I can say I have the latest driver installed, while I have not been able to do so before. Any other driver version than 399.21 would freeze Vegas every 5 minutes.

Anyway - to whatever it's worth... The performance of GPU is still very much improvable.
