Movie Studio platinum 13 not working in Windows 11...what should I do?

Mickey-Badalamenti schrieb am 20.09.2022 um 17:14 Uhr

I'm wondering if you all can help me out. I have been using Sony Movie Studio platinum 13 for several years, and love it. I rely heavily on certain key features, as well as many template projects that I need to continue using. But it no longer works with my new windows 11 machine (track motion keyframes & functionality doesn't work correctly; it won't compile a video; etc).

I'm aware that Magix bought it out, and now (from what I can tell) Movie Studio is a different codebase. So I'm confused as to what I should do in order to preserve what I need. At a minimum I need to preserve the following abilities:

- Be able to continue opening up my past projects and template projects, edit, re-use, etc.

- multiple video tracks, audio tracks

- Pan & crop functionality with keyframes, track motion functionality with keyframes

- FX like Sony levels; envelopes (volume, pan, opacity)

- input video formats like mp4, wmv (mov would be a bonus, i could not import it in ms platinum 13); and output to mp4 on local drive.

- In a nutshell, I need to preserve the features of movie studio platinum 13, and hopefully the user interface without too much change or learning curve.

My question is, do I purchase Movie Studio, or Vegas Pro? If Vegas, can I upgrade for a lesser cost, or do I need to purchase the $249 version?

Thank you so much!

Mickey

With me VMS 13 Pl works well on my windows 11 computer.
Maybe for you its needed to install it in compatible mode for a former Windows version

Yeah, try running the compatibility wizard.

I upgraded from VMS 17 to VEGAS Edit a couple of years ago. Try it - start the upgrade purchase process, after you enter your VMS serial number (I hope you still have it!) it will either be rejected or accepted. If the latter you're good to go, either click to Buy button or just close the page until you're decided.

VEGAS Edit opened my older VMS 17 projects, so you may be lucky...

A 100% amateur, making ham-fisted music with my guitar since 1969, soon after seeing Pink Floyd at the Festival Hall, the Albert Hall and the Fairfild Halls.

My main software is Cubase, but I use VEGAS to make videos to post on BitChute and, rarely, on Youtube.

My first computer was an Atari STE 1040, because it could run Cubase and had built-in MIDI ports.

Currently using an i9 12900/Radeon 6700XT machine, 64 gigs RAM, 2 x 32" 1440p monitors, Win 10, VEGAS 20.

OK thanks I will look into giving that a try. I don't yet know how to install in compatibility mode, perhaps you can let me know how to do that?

Thank you - I may try this after I try installing VMS 13 in compability mode like you both suggest.

What is the difference between Vegas Edit and Vegas Pro? Wondering which one would be the better move given i want to replicate VMS 13 Platinum as much as possible.

@Mickey-Badalamenti
Rightclick on the startpic of VMS 13 Pl and choose "compatibility".
Select in that setting 2 things the comtability mode and run as administrator.

Vegas Edit has the Vegas Pro version.
Vegas Pro has these extra's: VEGAS Stream, SOUND FORGE Audio Studio, Boris FX Primatte Studio and ActionVFX Starter Subscription

Please see https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/vegas-edit/

VEGAS Pro contains some extras. Both Edit and Pro have the same core VEGAS Pro software.

Your VMSP 13 serial number should be valid for upgrade pricing if it has not been used for upgrading before.

Test with the trial version first.

Thank you (and everyone else) very much.

I believe I will have to try the Vegas Edit version, since I have tried everything with VMS 13 including installing it using compatibility mode, running it in win 8 compatibility mode (there is no win 10 compatibility mode), and track motion simply doesn't work. It won't create keyframes for trackmotion or allow me to change size and location of the video on the track. That is a key feature I heavily rely on. Unless there's some setting I need to change in the new install that I don't know of, I think VMS 13 is dead-in-the-water for me.

I sure hope that Vegas Pro's functionality is similar to VMS for track motion, pan/crop, etc. I really don't want to go through a huge learning curve...

@Mickey-Badalamenti What exactly happens when you try to install your VMS13? Also confirm it is a 64 bit version? I cannot remember if VMS13 was sold as both 32 bit and 64 bit. VMS12 was.

vkmast schrieb am 21.09.2022 um 01:39 Uhr

@EricLNZ  Sony/SCS still had 32-bit and 64-bit versions of VMS/P 13 (b. 954/955). The MAGIX rebrands of VMS/P 13 were only 64-bit. VPro dropped the 32-bit after v.11..

EricLNZ schrieb am 21.09.2022 um 02:04 Uhr

@vkmast Thanks. I now realise that even if Mickey has the 32 bit version it should still work on a 64 bit machine.

@Mickey-Badalamenti

Do you have .NET 3.5 runtime enabled on your installation of Win 11? It does not come that way, you must activate it in Control Panel.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/framework/install/dotnet-35-windows

.NET 3.5 is necessary to run VMS 13 on any version of Windows. If it still is causing problems, try running it in Win7 Compatibility Mode.
