Respecting Fellow Community Members

Bri-Hageman schrieb am 03.01.2020 um 20:41 Uhr

Dear Community,

We've noticed a growing number of comments directed from one participant to another that can easily be interpreted as rude, hostile, aggressive, or otherwise undesirable. This community thrives because of the helpful interaction between it's members. We all get frustrated, angry, and short tempered now and then, but please keep in mind Community Rule #1, Respect the opinions and views of other members of the community. The rule does not say you have to agree. It just points out that respect is critical to this forum. Everyone here wants to help. Please keep this in mind as we head into a fresh new year.

Best regards,

Bri

If everyone, including me, would take the time and care to read and comment only on the original topic, instead of side-commenting on other's replies, this problem would be 50% solved.

I am saddened that we have apparently disillusioned a new user, and misrepresented the brand, by jumping into the middle of a narrow discussion with another Off-Topic free-for-all. Being aware of the whole discussion is more important than my, or anyone's views on the price of caviar in Beluga, which is still pretty important ;?)

i know that when i put a post up (being a new video creator) i feel soo humbled by the way some people answer as they know i dont know much so they put it in the most watered down version so i can understand what they are saying

What if you cant afford a therapist and rely on self directed aggressive responses on anonymous forums for anally retentive obsessive compulsive video editors?

Nice. If they get under your skin, they own you.

It's also a reminder that no matter how badly you think you are being treated, the only thing that is in your control is how you respond.

Wait! Is BillyBoy back? (Only the Vegas forum old-timers will get this reference.)

Jessariah67 schrieb am 18.01.2020 um 21:11 Uhr

I remember Billy Boy. That WAS long ago (and in a galaxy far, far away, to be sure...)

As a nearly 20-year user and lifetime lover & defender of Vegas, I STILL come here and STILL learn new things. You don't have to be a newbie to need help from time to time. I agree that this forum has always been one of the most friendly and helpful. You go to Adobe, and half the time, the attitude is "what's wrong with you...?"

This is, for the most part, a great group of people. I personally don't believe that Vegas would still be around if it weren't for the general caliber and attitude of its users.

Musicvid schrieb am 18.01.2020 um 22:23 Uhr

And good to see @John_Cline drop back in!

Things would be so much simpler if folks would just realize that we all have different perspectives and attempt to participate in a discussion rather than to immediately seek to engage in a debate.

A good habit to develop: "Seek to understand, before seeking to be understood."

vkmast schrieb am 23.01.2020 um 15:48 Uhr

I'd also like to remind of the original Post's message: "We all get frustrated, angry, and short tempered now and then, but please keep in mind Community Rule #1, Respect the opinions and views of other members of the community." That includes refraining from personal attacks.

An old boss of mine used to say, "Be careful of the toes you step on today because they might be connected to ass you have to kiss tomorrow." Maybe that's less true on the Internet. But even still, it is best to be polite.

I'd also appreciate it if certain members would be less passive aggressive toward the use of people's use of "Sony" when asking for help. Sony developed the software for far longer than Magix has and some people are still using a Sony version when asking for help evaluating a newer version. It's natural for them to use the old name.

Instead of helping those new members, some people think it's entirely appropriate to s**t on them and refuse to help in any way until they drop "sony" from their question.

@michael-harrison Hopefully I'm not the one doing any of that to people who mention the old owner. I just ask that everyone make an effort to use the proper branding. Not just to be a stickler or something, but because branding is critical. I totally agree that there's no reason to abuse someone who uses the wrong name, but it would be nice if we could get them to come up to date.

@gary-rebholz stated it super friendly but maybe you don't know it but it seems, as stated on this forum, that a lot of the so called "Sony"-users are using software they downloaded a stolen version without a license and they have mostly the same faults, and all these new members here subscribed the last days on this forum.

@gary-rebholz "but because branding is critical"

Branding is critical only to marketers or the people who own the brand. Bluntly, nobody else cares. Given that people are still using Sony versions of the software we could at least make use of Magix a secondary request after addressing the core concern.

I don't know if you're doing it, I'm not keeping track of who's doing this because I'm not part of the politeness police :-)

Uhmm...I really try not to get into back-and-forth arguments like this, but how do you expect a company--any company--to stay in business if no one knows its brand? I do sincerely hope someone out there cares! I only ask that this community keeps helping support the software as you have in so many ways. Sure, buying it in the first place, but more importantly, helping others learn it, talking positively about it when someone inevitably bashes it publicly, and yes, even using the proper branding so we can keep this whole thing alive. I think you're wrong. I think lots of people do care, and they prove it here day in and day out. But no more arguing from me. For my part, I try not to passively aggressively attack anyone, but my wife and kids constantly remind me that I could do better in that regard, so...

michael-harrison schrieb am 10.04.2020 um 18:06 Uhr

@vkmast I figured :-)
I've been involved in the development of a number of products over the years. While we on the dev teams cared about proper branding, nobody outside the companies ever really do :-)
