@wideseen try if another option to download helps. Please see here.

Worked like clockwork.
On starting 373 the similar process for updating Deep Learning Models was initiated and that one worked.
I did every update like this since Vegas Pro 9, never had a glitch before.

Thanks vkmast!

@cyvideo Presumably you've looked at this thread https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vp18-notes-on-the-8-bit-full-level-option--122749/

Doh! Thought I missed something. Yes I was aware of the new full range 8-bit levels but in my rush to get this job in and turned around I clean forgot about that setting. Fixed my my problem pronto so many thanks for the quick reply. Ended up doing the job in 17 so all worked out in the end. Stay well all.

Having a Fatal error when trying to Open Prores 422 files in the new update.
vegas instantly crashes when I try to open the ProresFile.

As soon as I click on it, it crashes.

Any advices?

@MarcAndreBilodeauCould you make a few seconds available with a file sharing service to see if others can replicate it? I haven't seen that. How was the ProRes file created?

Hi RogerS!

Here is one of the file that is causing Vegas to crash.
https://wetransfer.com/downloads/bb0dbc948c08b212a5ca38b6f03c1bdf20201124132951/8b27ed041258c5f69c4c08111901249b20201124133015/4ab7bb

I think it may have to do with the Embedded proxy system with the camera.
The file is prores422 but there are embedded proxies for playback, and those are H265.
Maybe it is this double video system that causes vegas to crash...

Also, here is the MediaInfo for the file.

@MarcAndreBilodeau please continue in your own thread https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/build-373-instantly-crashes-when-importing-prores422-media--125433/

DavidKamatoy wrote on 11/25/2020, 4:19 AM

Build 373 is crashing when loading 2 different camera cineform AVI files. Has not done it before in this build.

Due to Vegas 18 upgrade I changed my workflow to the below...

My recent workflow is transcoding Canon or any footage to Cineform AVI in Adobe Media Encoder and then editing in Vegas. Native Canon footage was crashing or lagging in 18. I tried transcoding to Magix Prores and it seemed that Cineform was actually more stable. Also tried transcoding to cineform in vegas and that also had problems. So everything transcoding to cineform has so far given me the best results. Everything was working smoothly. I just tried to start a new project with multiple crashes.

Build 373 seemed fine until now. ACK! I am going to try a restart and then try to cut this thing in the morning.

Just wondering if I am missing an update?

RogerS wrote on 11/25/2020, 6:12 AM

Does this Cineform require enabling Quicktime in deprecated features? I thought that had hard limits on it in terms of # of clips on the timeline. Perhaps consider newer intermediate formats like the lossless MagicYUV. https://www.magicyuv.com/

"Corporate speak is not lying, you tell a truth to mislead. The truth being Apple have not given them the rights to decode their codec. Only magix know if that's unusual given what they provided in their application. The real truth as you believe it, is that GPU decoding performance is not good enough for either Prores raw or BM raw so if they had the rights it still wouldn't exist in vegas pro due to a lack of gpu performance."

For what it's worth. Rumors I've heard is that it is highly unlikely we will see Prores RAW support in Vegas. Partly down to the fact that Apple has not been happy with Magix ever since they implemented "Prores" in Vegas 14. A Prores implementation that was not approved or licensed by Apple. From what I have heard is that Magix "Prores" is FFmbc based. Further, I heard it was due to pressure from Apple that Magix had to rename their v14 Prores templates to Magix "Intermediate" in V15 and up. If any of this is true I can't see Apple granting Magix a license for Prores RAW.

May not matter. Open source ffmpeg project libraries just got a beta patch for a cuda-optimized ProRes library extension. The author's stated goal is to outperform Apple licensed libraries. It doesn't include ProRes RAW yet but the author says it's coming.

We have been approved for a license for ProRes from Apple and we are working to get the official ProRes support in place. We have also been granted a license for ProRes RAW, but it will take us more time to get this implementation complete as RAW formats are much more resource intensive and require new decoding paths within the code base. However, this is a relatively high priority item for us and we are indeed working on getting it in place.

I rely on Vegas for money. Since Vegas 15...hell. All the way to Vegas 18 Build 363. It appears the hell is over. By turning off opencl/ to FALSE...rendering and time line crashes have ceased. Including a complicated render from an external SSD.

It was said this method was not necessary on Vegas 18. It appears to have solved a problem that was driving me towards Apple M1x and Final Cut Pro.

Is it really that simple? A few more projects and we will see. But if that was it...I am live streaming my sobbing.

I apologize to Magix staff for all the abuse...including what you couldn't hear. 💥😀👍🏽

You turned off gpu processing which ofcourse fixes vegas GPU problems, but in 2020 you should be able to benefit by having GPU processing on an NLE and not having to turn it off. But if you don't even realise what you've done and Vegas performance is good enough for you, then maybe you dont' need a GPU

It's on our list after ProRes RAW. We have only a small team to work on this and these all take time to implement. We get requests for BlackMagix RAW almost daily, but we need to get the infrastructure changes in place first or else the overall experience for our users will be horrible. Simply putting RAW support into VEGAS will be pointless if the playback performance is horrible and support is lacking for the special color features of those formats.

That is one of the weirdest reviews of NLEs I think I've ever seen. Did the original YT poster really put those Vegas Pro titles and VOs over the review or did someone hijack the original post and put those titles and VOs over it. It looks very much like the latter to me. It looked like an amateur sabotage effort to me.

I don't think so. as It was abundantly clear it was not the original video, and I said 'Although sara is not talking about VegasPro, she could be" as I introduced my edit and stated the words she are saying are even more True for VegasPro. It was a creative use to present an opinion on VEGAS Pro 18 Update 2 and a possible future

As creative video submissions are not appreciated I"ll cover the basic point. Sara mentions how an NLE on the M1 laptop has great abilities with speed, and efficiency given limited hardware power due to the complete rebuild of the software, and mentioned how her NLE of choice can't compete because it's code is ancient and inefficient due to constantly building upon old old code causing bugs and inefficiency. It is suggested in 2020 where there are so many camera codecs that stress CPU/GPU the way forward is from the ground up.

And lastly and most importantly she said the people you love the most you probably critique the most because you want them to be better. So you see I"m VegasPro's greatest fan and supporter and hope for a VP19 rebuild, as Sara says it's necessary for the software to remain competitve. 😀💯 . There would no longer be scenarios where A7siii is not fully supported, GPU decoding is still unstable and the latest Video cards still cant' be used months after they went on sale. Updates would be much faster due to VegasDerrick not having to wade through and make allowances for the old core software. I"M sure all my Vegas friends would agree that is the Vegas future we all hope for in Vp19 😀
