I read people are having issues with MOV files in the latest release in Vegas Pro, is this true?

No. What kind of file specifically? There are so many varieties of mov files and they work with different decoders in Vegas.

Custom PC (2022) Intel i5-13600K with UHD 770 iGPU with latest driver, MSI z690 Tomahawk motherboard, 64GB Corsair DDR5 5200 ram, NVIDIA 2080 Super (8GB) with latest studio driver, 2TB Hynix P41 SSD, Windows 11 Pro 64 bit

Dell XPS 15 laptop (2017) 32GB ram, NVIDIA 1050 (4GB) with latest studio driver, Intel i7-7700HQ with Intel 630 iGPU (latest available driver), dual internal SSD (1TB; 1TB), Windows 10 64 bit

Upgrade went well. Rendering seems faster. So far, so good.

I'm noticing some improvement in 32 bit project playback using 10 bit media.

From within Vegas it doesn't work. So I downloaded the version again from the "my products" page, installed it again and activated it.

EDIT: Fixed, just went to the folder where it has been installed opened the 700Mo file from there.
Curious where the internal downloader installed the exe as I couldn't find it so had to download it from the "my products" page.

Hello, I can't Install it after getting this error. "The installation program canot update Vega Pro 18.0 if it's running."

I was excited about Vegas 18 supporting the power of the modern video cards. Sadly, all I've run in to are numerous instances of frozen software and having to end the Vegas Pro task, often losing work because I forgot to save a project every few minutes.. It is ridiculous to expect purchasers of Vegas Pro to dummy down the software that is supposed to support modern video cards. I should not have to depend on other users to explain how to fix freezes and crashes by disabling OpenCL/GL, enabling legacy AVC and HEVC decoding, etc. -- thereby deleting the choice of my video card as a decoder, among other things. I did not buy a Quadra video card to do word processing. I'm ready to delete this software and get a refund. I'm tired of beta/alpha-testing software I have paid for -- software that should work without having to dig deep into settings to get it to work. I only wish that I could produce all my final projects as alphas or betas so I could expect my clients to tell me how to fix what I've done wrong.

@Muse
For this there is the function "Automatic save" which is selected by default

and additionally the function "extended storage"

For the other problems I would like to ask you to open your own thread, where you will be asked to describe exactly which system environment (hardware) you have, which drivers (graphics cards) are installed and which media (media info) you are processing and causing problems.

RogerS wrote on 1/31/2021, 2:18 AM

@Muse If you want us to try to help you should start your own thread. This is your only comment on the forum.

Quadra may not be a great choice for Vegas- most of us are using GTX/RTX or AMD equivalents. I see one other Quadra user who has had issues recently. Perhaps if you could help detail the nature of the problem Magix could fix it.

Or if that's too much work, there are other threads describing the refund process if you can't figure it out.

I have Vegas Pro 18, update seemingly done several times, then it claimed I had an "old version" and updated again. Not a smooth process.

Now to my MAIN problems:

1 It crashes CONSTANTLY, like every 5-10 minutes when I edit

2. (Even more critical) When I render it stops after a while and claims "Low on memory".. I have 64GB RAM, and no applications open!. And I am only rendering a 30 min clip.... Come On!!

Just saw the update and tried to download it today 2-1-21 at noon eastern. No luck. Using the in program update it gets stuck after 1% and makes no progress (after 15 minutes still stuck at 1%). I tried the provided link for a direct download and it never gets to the download. It says leaving in 4 seconds, counts down to zero and never goes anywhere (after 10 minutes). I also tried the link provided if the auto link fails and it does nothing too.

Not a great update experience!

vkmast wrote on 2/1/2021, 11:53 AM

I just tested downloading the VP 18b434 dlm from my MAGIX Account. No trouble here, but I'm in Europe, so maybe server trouble? And if you use Chrome it may not download without a workaround (copy/paste the URL text to the browser), so try another browser.

Been testing the update on the Dell xps-15 laptop I'm using on the road. Noticed some strangeness but I think it's a Windows thing. When I first fired up build 434, it selected my Intel igpu as Optimal in video preferences. If I left it that way, nvenc rendering was faster on benchmarks than manually selecting the Nvidia 1050ti but the rendered files had corruptions in them and Vegas was failing to unload from memory on exit. Then I noticed something new in the Nvidia Control Panel: "Windows now manages selection of the graphic processor" with a link to the Win10 Graphics Settings screen. Turned on the Windows graphics setting "Reduce latency and improve performance" and added Vegas 18 to the apps list which I set for High Performance. After a reboot Vegas 18 now flags the Nvidia 1050ti as optimal and it benches the fastest, renders are clean, and Vegas vacates from memory on exit. Also noticing the update doesn't seem to have the delay I was seeing on the 1st render after loading up. I'm guessing some of this might be peculiar to the version of Win10 I'm running... 20H2, os build 19042.746, Experience Pack 120.2212.551.0.

I think it's a Windows thing....

The last Windows update really messed-up both my 9900K & older Xeon workstations, I used Acronis True Image to go back to the last good image, and found an even better way to prevent Windows from updating by making it think only a system administrator (me) can roll out an update (like we do on our school networks...)

On another note, I am no longer planning to update a 2nd Vegas workstation but searching for a (newer but used) Mac Pro so that I can decode & encode ProRes RAW & BRAW footage NOW... Can't wait any longer...

General announcement for Build 434 states that: "Added support for Quadro and 3000 series Nvidia GPUs in the Driver Update window", what does this mena exactly?

Link: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-18-update-3-build-434--126816/

Is it that support for Quadro GPU is added; or the ability to download drivers using Help->Check for Driver Update menu option. If the former, I've serious issues with GPU acceleration in new version using Nvidia Quadro K4200, if latter then the driver does not report updates for Nvidia RTX / K4200 versions -- therefore what exactly does the update include?

Thanks

I downloaded 434 yesterday and started using it today. This version is horribly unstable for me. It keeps locking up while using the trimmer and moving clips to the timeline. How do I revert back to the previous build? They also did not resolve the memory leak issue using 10 bit video and titles and text.

  • Stability. I get hard lockups. Everything is up-to-date driver wise. My computer is stable. I rarely if ever get crashes in other software. I realize this is generic and difficult to diagnose, but stability is the most important thing for a piece of software.
  • The ability to disable project media scrubbing. I've learned to drag from the filename, but it's still a hassle for a feature I never use. It slows down the type of editing I do.
  • Have longer term caching of previews in the project media window, at least as an option. Especially for PNGs, JPEGs, and other sources that never change. This lags my editing flow because the previews keep re-generating when I scroll the window. I don't care if there are 100 files in a folder. There also seems to be some type of threading issue where priority of thumbnail generation takes precedence over what I'm doing in the timeline. That's not cool.
  • Make the audio sync tool functional. I haven't been able to get it to sync anything correctly. That was a big reason I bought version 18.
  • The eFX VocalStrip filter makes a pop noise when I apply it on a track level at the start of the video and between clips. It's super irritating. I've been rendering out a clipped up audio track, but it still shows up at the start of the video. I have to fade in the audio a lot to get it to not show up.

ngjb wrote on 2/6/2021, 2:11 PM

Build 434 is locking up every two or three editing operations. I never had that issue with 378. I will contact Vegas Support to get a link back to version 378. This update is just not useable. I switched over to my Intel based laptop and I get the same issue. So two systems, one AMD and one Intel based exhibit the same problem. None of my other application are this unstable.

Repeating it here to invite conversation as to a fix. The Vegas software is so like a bad boyfriend: just can't get its s** together. That's sod... clean it up. ;)

These new additions, FX and Image, are quite appealing. I really like them and see them as viable replacement for other software. Room to grow, a lot, though.

Problem: Vegas Image won't start one day after install. Solution?

Good day,

Joining the group in order to maximize my investment and to get better appeal as my ROI. Recently upgraded to 18 pro Suite. I like the flow, I like how the programs 'feel' but there is an underlying current of 'this ain't gonna get done...' about the crash happiness of some of the apps.

Thus far, I was working with Vegas image and had 4 crashes putting together a composite. Fortunately, and a reason to like it, Vegas Image saved the work in progress each time allowing me to finish the image. However...

Today, I can't open it. One day later. What gives?

This seems to be the way for Vegas products nowadays: done enough to sell but not enough to complete your dream. I have two gpus in my system, 32 gig and a nice setup.

How can I get this software to perform as nice as it looks?
