How do you know it was brand new? And even if you get the serial number, you need to be aware of p.7 in the EULA for MAGIX products.

I suggest you contact Magix Customer Service through the Support Link at the top of the page. Although they probably won't give you a serial number without proof of purchase, you "might" be able to reach some kind of an agreement.
