Disabled 'Render' button - all visible templates ineffective

gobiron wrote on 3/16/2020, 8:43 PM

I am using Sony Vegas 14.0 on my Toshiba laptop and find I am unable to render some mp4 clips I have put together from my mobile phone. The Render As window is not showing as many options in the Template list as on all previous occasions (and yes, I have enlarged the window but there are no more options to scroll down to) and, no matter which option I select, the Render button remains greyed out. I have used clips from my phone in previous projects and did not have this problem. Selecting the 'Real Time Render' function just produces an audio file. I have run out of ideas - does anyone have any more I could try?

A few things here...

First, there is no "Sony" Vegas 14. Sony has nothing to do with this product.

Second, we probably need to get some information about the media you are using in your project. Saying mp4 is meaningless. Use MediaInfo to give details on the the media.

Third, your gpu driver is horribly out of date, but also, you have not told us the model of your gpu.

What I am suspecting is that the video streams in your mp4 files (mp4 is only a wrapper, and tells us nothing about the format of your actual media) are not being read by VEGAS and as a result you are only getting audio renders when you open the render as dialog.

So...more info please.

On your "render as" option screen, make sure you do not have "= Match Project Settings" selected.

vkmast wrote on 3/17/2020, 9:43 AM

I assume you clicked the small black arrow next to a Format to see the Templates.

gobiron wrote on 3/17/2020, 12:23 PM

VEGAS Derek asked "...more info please."

(Thanks for the tip about MediaInfo)

MPEG-4 (Base Media / Version 2): 158 MiB, 1 min 48 s

1 video stream: AVC

1 audio stream: AAC LC

com.android.version: 6.0.1

First video stream

English, 12.0 Mb/s, 1280 x720 (16:9), Data Rate 12013 kbps, Bitrate 12270 kbps, Frame Rate 30.01 fps (1 Ref Frames)

First audio stream

English, 256 kbps, 48.0 khz, Stereo

GPU model is GeForce 930M and investigation shows that the driver is up to date.

Whatever VEGAS is reading, it is showing me a list of video formats, not audio, in the 'Render As' window:

Intel HEVC (*.mov), MAGIX ProRes (*.mov), Main Concept AVC AAC (*.mp4; *.avc), Main Concept MPEG-2 (*.mpg; *.m2v; *.m2t; *.mpa), Panasonic P2 MXF (*.mxf), Sony AVC/MVC (*.mp4; *.m2ts; *.mpa), Sony MXF (*.mxf); Sony XAVC/XAVCS (*.mxf; *.mp4); Video for Windows (*.avi); Windows Media Video V11 (*.wmv); XD CAM EX (*.mp4)

...in my initial post I did say that I got audio renders only when selecting the 'Real Time Render' option.

If VEGAS is not reading the video stream of my clips, I'm intrigued to know how it is showing me images to edit? There are six clips which I shot 2 days ago, each about a minute in length.

I have since looked at other options and tried 'Prepare for VEGAS Pro Connect' which seems to have performed a rendering function, as I now have a usable mp4 wrapper of my edited clips. This doesn't solve the problem of my disabled 'Render' button, but it may add a missing clue for your expert brain to consider when working out what's happening.

Thanks again, in anticipation

Which build of VEGAS Pro 14 are you using? (See Help > About...) The last one was Update 7. Install that you don't yet have it.

Tried to download that driver from GeForce and was directed to update via my 'GeForce Experience,' which insists that my current driver is up to date ...any other way to find that window you featured?
The above list of available templates is what I usually see but, in this case (and the whole reason for my original post), I am getting a shorter list (as you can see from the list of available templates in my second post, above), with no drop down options to customise the template.

Thanks for trying to help.

That is completely the wrong way because the Nvidia driver has nothing to do with all the Geforce extra's.
You have to go to: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx
There you choose this for your native language and if not as mine to "other"

Than choose this

after downloading that file install it and make these choices

than as advanced

At last this

A clean installation of only the drivers, the rest you don't need for Vegas software.
For your GPU there are only Game drivers wihle for a bit better cards the special Studio drivers are available.

Thank you j-v

I now have the new driver installed but I still see the same limited list of available video formats, with a greyed-out render button. I have even opened new projects, imported clips that have rendered as expected in the past, and I still get the same greyed-out render button, sometimes with an even shorter list of available templates.

As I have said, in reply to Derek's request for more info. (which doesn't appear to have helped him think of an answer,) I can at least get a usable video file via the option 'Prepare for Vegas Pro Connect,' but this does not explain the disabled render function, which I fear may be a sign of more problems to come.

Any other ideas?

I think you should consider providing Mediainfo output (as per the FAQ). The information you provided is some kind of media info, but many vital details are missing. And some screenshots (project settings, render chooser).

It would help if you told me which "vital details" you would need, to solve my problem. When you consider that this covers many projects, involving at least 4 varieties of video files, and that there are 21 'view's in MediaInfo for each file, each view needing up to three screen shots to show the full list of data, I would be sending you a book to look at if I didn't know what you wanted to see.

Old projects that I had no problem rendering in the past are also now showing a reduced list of options, although the render button is not greyed out in some cases, as you can see...

...and the one I show here was only using jpg files. Is the above what you mean by "render chooser"?

Is this what you mean by project settings?...

Uncheck "Video Templates Only" and "Match Project Aspect"

j-v wrote on 3/20/2020, 12:00 PM

Your projectsettings are FHD NTSC interlaced and your rendersettings are FHD Bluray videofile only PAL interlaced, while pictures as JPG are never interlaced, so all looks to me very faulty.
Do you know what you are doing?
What is your goal with your render?
What do you with the sound track from which we see a part?

That Blueray option just happened to be highlighted when I took the screenshot as an example of how limited the options are (compared with the options that I'm used to seeing), even in this old project, which I probably rendered as 'Internet 480p Widescreen' - surely it doesn't matter what my render settings are if the render button doesn't work. The goal with my render is to have a video people can waych and listen to. I import the soundtrack from my folder of finished songs, in either .mp3 or .wav form.

Former user wrote on 3/20/2020, 2:04 PM

You should have seen more rendering options. This is a filter that will only show rendering options that fit that criteria.

I think we did not ask which buildnr you are using.
Because I see in your screenshots things I do not see in my Vegas Pro 14 build 270.
You can find this buildnr. at menu Help/About

Sorry vkmast - I missed your question about the build. Does this make a difference, considering that I used to see more options in my 'Render As' window and it is only recently that I get a greyed out render button every time?

Musicvid wrote on 3/20/2020, 2:57 PM

Given the unusual nature of your reported issue, and possible differences over technical communication, I would say the answer to that question is "Yes," along with the rest of the troubleshooting information requested here:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/important-information-required-to-help-you--110457/

I am using version 270 of Vegas Pro 14, and several things have changed since 244, including the Render dialog. I don't recommend staying with earlier builds, even though you report something has changed for you. I have no issues suggesting anything you have reported.
