Dll files issue; compoundplug.dll, End for Sony Vegas?

Jerry-Carlsson wrote on 8/23/2021, 7:56 AM

My old Sony Vegas 14 pro worked fine. While updating to Windows 10 I got Sony Vegas 18 pro - for some stupid reason. Sometime during this summer I found myself for a while adding a deleting a dll file from the programs plug-ins-folder, to be able to work with MTS files and on the other hand some HQ - MP4 files. One file worked when deleting the dll. -file and the other worked when keeping it. Frustrating - but It Worked! Obs! File is compoundplug.dll. AND NOW, Sony Vegas wont play my HQ MP4-files at ALL. Now from what I understand Sony Vegas has stopped being compatible with certain high resoluted MP4 files. Anyone got an idea how to get it to work, or do I have to give up on Sony Vegas?? Alot of money spent so far and I like the program. User since 2010. Thanks!

Does your computer meet the minimum specs for Vegas Pro 18

Operating system: Microsoft® Windows 10 (64-bit)

Processor: 6th Generation Intel Core i5 (or AMD equivalent) or better. 2.5 Ghz and 4 Core minimum. For 4K, 7th Generation Intel Core i7 (or AMD equivalent) or better. 3.0 Ghz and 8 Core minimum.

RAM: 8 GB RAM minimum (16 GB recommended; 32 GB recommended for 4K)

Hard drive space: 1.5 GB hard-disk space for program installation; Solid-state disk (SSD) or high-speed multi-disk RAID for 4K media

I'm not sure why you would be adding/deleting .dll files - maybe reinstall and leave the dlls alone..

Unless you've just bought a new computer with W10, if you've just updated W7 or W8.1 to W10, is it possible that you have a computer dating back to W7/8 days? If so, it is very likely to struggle or fail in some functions with Vegas Pro 18 and 19.

BTW, all the Vegas Pro versions you mentioned (from 14 onwards) were not released by Sony. The last version of Sony Vegas Pro was 13 after which Sony sold the product to MAGIX.

Cameras: Sony FDR-AX100E; GoPro Hero 11 Black Creator Edition

Installed: Vegas Pro 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 & 22, HitFilm Pro 2021.3, DaVinci Resolve Studio 19.0.3, BCC 2025, Mocha Pro 2025.0, NBFX TotalFX 7, Neat NR, DVD Architect 6.0, MAGIX Travel Maps, Sound Forge Pro 16, SpectraLayers Pro 11, iZotope RX11 Advanced and many other iZ plugins, Vegasaur 4.0

@Jerry-Carlsson Please reinstall your VEGAS Pro 18 and do not delete files like this. If you have some issues with some codecs please ask this community or switch to the legacy codecs in the preferences.

RogerS wrote on 8/23/2021, 8:23 AM

If you need the older decoders they are in preferences/file io ("enable legacy AVC"). Deleting program files isn't going to end well, but I think you realized that.

And please don't install any codec "packs".

Also, Vegas 14 and Vegas 18 are not "Sony" products.

Hi guys! Thank you so much for your feedback!! Im working on it! I think it might have do with that I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7. I tried to run Sony Vegas 14 with a few different files on my OTHER computer with Windows 7. Video-files worked! But I was informed during the import that I needed the HEVC-Codec - and that was installed for me automatically during the import process! So naturally you would guess that getting the HEVC-codec for windows 10 is the trick. But I will try your suggesions first though! Thanks!

@Jerry-Carlsson please drop referring to "Sony" in your comments regarding VEGAS 14 and later versions. Sony and MAGIX do not like the incorrect branding. Thank you for your understanding.

Possibly the OP has pirated cracked versions of Vegas Pro 14 - 19 because that's where it's still named Sony.

If he has legal versions, the OP should trawl through all the documentation that he has received about his Vegas Pro purchases - as well Vegas Pro installs - and try and find where Vegas Pro 14+ has been branded Sony. They haven't been so branded? Please keep up to date with your terminology. Now just waiting for the backlash.

Isn't that just the software authorizing/registering the codec (reporting back to Magix you used it)? I don't think it's downloading anything.

So sorry- I dont know where I got "Sony" from.. I guess its from back in 2010 when I bought some cheaper version of it. And the name got stuck with me somehow. Never used a cracked version. Viva Vegas - I guess that would be ok to say :-)

This is not my thread but I came upon it and had to comment on the chastising reply you posted here. These were all originally SONY products so the confusion is understandable. Magix should have completely changed the name of these apps when they took over but they didn't - likely because they wanted to keep the Sony stigma alive for financial benefit.

Do you work for Magix? If so perhaps you can explain why all of these products have become a bug-fest since Magix took over. The entire line - Acid Music Studio, Vegas Pro, Movie Studio - were all rock solid when they were Sony products - but not anymore. I found this out only after spending money to "upgrade" all of these apps and, IMO, they're all buggy junk now.

It doesn't surprise me that Sony wants to be disassociated with these products. "Sony" is a professional brand.

RogerS wrote on 11/20/2022, 9:53 PM

Sony sold them, end of story. This is an official Magix forum and the mods do correct mistaken branding.

Not sure Sony is a professional brand, see their Catalyst software.

If I bought buggy junk, I'd get my money back and move on to their "professional brand" software.

It was the Vegas name that Magix purchased and yes they wanted to keep Vegas alive. Magix are the third owners of Vegas.

were all rock solid when they were Sony products

I'm not sure everyone would agree with that comment.

Vegas Pro ... were all rock solid when they were Sony products

Really? For so many in 2011/12, Sony Vegas Pro 11 was a crash-fest at a level of unreliability unequalled since. Have a look at forum comments from the time starting at page 28 of:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum-search/?page=28&query=vegas%20pro%2011%20crash

... and moving on to later dated pages (pp 27, 26 and so on).

If I remember correctly, Sony Vegas Pro 12 was effectively little else than a fix for Sony Vegas Pro 11's stability problems and SVP12 .veg projects were even backward compatible to SVP11.

... because they wanted to keep the Sony stigma alive ...

Sony Vegas Pro 11 would almost certainly have provided a stigma reputation for Sony because 'stigma' is a negative term having a meaning along the lines of:  "a mark of disgrace associated with a particular circumstance, quality, or person". It makes no sense at all for MAGIX to want to keep alive negative feelings about Sony products when MAGIX acquired Sony's range of products. A very bad business decision to build upon the negatives of a former owner's issues with their former products. Perhaps you meant to write something like, "... keep Sony's reputation of quality products alive ...".

Please note that none of the users who have so far contributed to this thread "work for Magix" (except VEGASPascal, see here). All moderators (marked with the M hexagon) are long-time peer users of Sony and MAGIX VEGAS versions (not employees or members of MAGIX or VEGAS Creative Software staff) and try to "provide help on how to use vegascreativesoftware.info and will monitor and mediate discussions".

And as others noted, browsing the forum history would not confirm "rock solid".
