Files Automatically placed at the end of timeline?

I've been using Movie Studio 14 for a few months now, but there's one setting I haven't been able to change and it's driving me crazy.

Every time I open a new media while I'm in the middle of a project it automatically gets placed onto the end of the timeline. Which is incredibly annoying, since that is never actually where I want it. And in long projects it's tedious to go back and find the place I was originally at. Is there any way to prevent added files from auto-placing themselves on the timeline?

Don't double-click media, drag it if you don't want it added to end of your project.

Don't double-click media, drag it if you don't want it added to end of your project.

But the problem happens when I'm adding it to the media tray, not when I'm adding it to the timeline. It automatically adds itself to the timeline when I'm adding files to the media tray.

You don't have to add your files to the project media.

That happens automatically when you drag your files to the timeline, anywhere you want!

That's the safest way in MS 14 Plat. The online Help file needs to be revised.

This is how it works for me in MS (12, 13, and) 14 Platinum.

"Use the Windows Explorer to add media and create events

If you're using the Windows Explorer to browse your computer for media, you can add a media file quickly by dragging it to the Movie Studio window. The media file is added to the Project Media window, and an event is created where you drop the file. If you drop the file on an area of the timeline that does not contain a track, a new track will be created.

Use the Movie Studio Explorer to add media and create events

If you're using the Movie Studio Explorer to preview files, you can add media by performing either of the following actions:

- Double-click a media file to add it to your project. The file is added to the Project Media window, and an event is created to end of your project on the selected track (though the MSP.14 online Help claims that "an event is created at the cursor position").
- Drag a media or project file from the Movie Studio Explorer to the timeline. The file is added to the Project Media window, and an event is created where you drop the file.

Inserting media

By using auto ripple, you can drop a media file in timeline and automatically move downstream events to make space for the new event.

- Select the Auto Ripple button .

- Drag a media file from the Movie Studio Explorer or Project Media window to a position on the timeline between two events.

- If you want to insert an event in the middle of an existing event, you can split the existing event before adding the media file."
