Free VEGAS Pro?

alifftudm95 wrote on 5/5/2020, 12:10 PM

Well I know VEGAS right now need money to run their bizz etc. But tons of people and the numbers is increasing day by day, suggesting to switch to Davinci Resolve because the software is "free" & powerful. And you can purchase the pro version for more advanced features

This also remind me of Winrar that have infinite 40days trial so that they can make them well recognize.

Maybe if VEGAS could follow this step so there will be less piracy of the software.

Just suggesting :D

Seriously? Like gimme your money and I wont rob you less piracy? 😂

I don't understand how this in any way would help Vegas. It already has a 30 day trial with limitations, like the video example of WinRar you showed. I think Vegas would do better if they came up with a stronger anti-piracy scheme. You may notice that Vegas is probably the most pirated video editing software out there, and there must be a reason.

I think this is a brilliant idea, if only because you can find out the real number of Vegas users :) In any case, the price of VEGAS PRO is certainly too high. As long as there is a free version of Davinci, users will leave, and new users will pass Vegas.

Former user wrote on 5/5/2020, 12:45 PM

What does it matter if you know the number of users if you are making no money? If Vegas Pro is too high, you can purchase Movie Studio. It is very reasonably priced and does 90% of what a video editor needs. Blackmagic Design who owns DaVinci is not a new company and Resolve is not their only product. Their money is made in hardware sales and support. Control surfaces, video capture hardware, and such to support the Pro users of Resolve. By getting more users, they increase the demand for hardware, training, and support, all of which they charge money for.

Vegas and DaVinci aren't into the competition thing.

The No1 of most pirated video editing programs is certainly adobe , whatever anti-piracy they have been integrating . Just checked a couple of those sites , there is hardly any interest in vegas when they are able to get adobe and resolve studio ( even when this studio is very cheap now ). These things will always remain but are also not their main target customers /clients and will never buy it /rent it if they could not get it that way anymore , so doesn't make a difference actually for them unless more advertising everybody using it resulting in possible sales whenever those illegal amateurs get serious in editing and can't take the risk anymore in using illegal versions which suddenly might stop functioning in the middle of a production . I have , for years ( since vegas 4 ) , been a small supporter/sponsor of this software in buying quite a lot , even when not using it . ( like acid pro , cinescore and themes , vegas pro 14 etc.. , even never installed ) .

Adobe avid or DaVinci resolve it BC it very easy to collaborate with a team

Adobe Creative Cloud products have been free to school students since 2016 where I live, other places it's discounted for students. It's what kids first start using in schools. VegasPro's ability to be learned without courses due to being so intuitive is more of a minor factor now because kids are taught to use Adobe products in school. There's probably no reason for them to ever consider anything else until their student licences expire and by then might be too late

Could the OP please explain how s/he expects Vegas Creative Software to be able to derive an income if Vegas Pro is free. How is the company expected to pay the rent, electricity bill, wages, etc if one of the company's principal sources of income evaporates? Donations like a charity instead perhaps? Or Go-Fund-Me?

As has been said any number of times over the years on this forum (and above as well), Blackmagic Design has significant income sources from hardware and is not solely reliant on software like Davinci Resolve for income - it's effectively a loss-leader marketing-wise.

If the OP runs a small business, perhaps s/he should offer their company's services free of charge to avoid clients going to a competitive company where they'd have to pay.

Actually, Vegas HAS ALREADY BEEN OFFERED (NEARLY) FOR FREE!

There have been several Humble Bundle promotions over the years where the bundle costs something like $20. Not just Vegas - the whole bundle.

The version offered is usually a year old, but that is arguably a better deal than Blackmagic's DR free version which has very important features intentionally left out (e.g. h264 hardware support).

We know if somebody is using a illegal version of VEGAS.

No response needed here, but I hope that your company sends 'cease and desist' legal warnings to those identified.
