There is no Sony in VEGAS Pro software anymore. Watch this video to learn on how to use VEGAS Pro for editing. I also include the software history which explain why there is no more Sony in VEGAS.

 

For your questions, You can do your compositing in AE and export as Alpha to VEGAS Pro. Its a burn/edit process. You don't have the luxurious to round trip like Pr & AE.

 

You can try VEGAS POST Suite to keep the editing process within VEGAS eco system, which contain VEGAS Pro, VEGAS Effects, VEGAS Image & Sound Forge.

Vegas does not support Adobe *.aex plugins, although some plugin makers also write OFX for Vegas.
