is it possible to log video in Vegas?

A solution widely employed in the professional industry is to log the content prior to editing. Loggers go through the source video material, labeling it according to its contents within the metadata. This data is then available during editing, making the editing more efficient. Is this possible in vegas 17 platinum?

The question was "is it possible to log video in Vegas...", not, "what is video logging"

I know. From https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/community-rules/ p. 2.4: "If you don't receive an answer to your question, get in touch with MAGIX Support at: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/support/

It is not a native feature. I know what it is because I receive them occasionally. You may want to ask your question on the scripting forum, and also reframe your question as a Feature Request.

[EDIT] Scripting is only available in the Pro version, where you originally posted.

"For Reference..." means it is information available for others who may not be familiar with the term. It does not mean "here is the answer to your question." It would seem wise to treat it as such. going forward.

@kevin-m Movie Studio is a consumer level programme. If video logging is available in Vegas it would most likely only be available in Vegas Pro. Suggest you repost in the Pro section.

@kevin-m Okay I now realise you originaly posted in the Pro section but got moved as you mentioned Platinum which is a Movie Studio version, not Pro. I'm changing the thread title and moving you back.

Would it be that complicated to say, "no. Platinum does not support logging". Seriously?!

...simple question, simple answer...

We aim to please, Kevin. As part of that philosophy, suggestions are often made in the hope that they can eventually guide you to a solution. That includes the suggestions I made.

Sometimes new users assume this is an official support forum. On the contrary, we are your peer users, not employees of Vegas software. No one gets paid here, and anyone can choose to reply or not reply to a post; often professionals with decades of experience, who are immersed in creative solutions for all kinds of technical issues, and with credentials to match. Also a few new users, who may not have a thorough grasp of the question. It is what it is.

That said, I'm sure the professionals (5+ decades of combined experience) who have already responded to you have made a note of your wishes, and will reply accordingly in the future, or not as they choose.. Respect begets respect. Your alternative is the Support link above. Welcome to the forum.

@kevin-m Your question wasn't a simple question because it was confusing.

Anyway short answer - No, Vegas MOVIE STUDIO PLATINUM 17 does not provide video logging. There may possibly be a third party add on product for this but I'm not aware of any.

However Vegas PRO 17 which has scripting may. Plus there are several third party add-on packages available which might provide what you seek. Being a VMS user I'm not able to comment on this.

Your question was confusing because you referred to Vegas 17 Platinum, which I've since altered in the title. There is no Vegas Platinum 17, only Vegas Movie Studio 17 Platinum. Plus there is the Vegas Pro range.

If you were really looking just at the consumer level Vegas Movie Studio then you are out of luck. But if you want to consider further and look at Vegas Pro 17 please confirm and some of the experienced Pro users may have answers for you.

Below is a screen shot of the Project Temp Folder of Magix Video Pro X (VPX). Out of curiosity, would this be considered as Video Logging?

The Name field can be modified, and Description, Scene and Take fields can be entered. This is a simple example. All are full video clips on the timeline except for the last one that does not have a red dot. The bottom one with no icon is the Movie Name (VPX allows multiple movies or timelines that can be nested).

Videos clips can be split and trimmed on the timeline into separate events, and each can be sent to the Project Temp Folder, taking on the clip name_001/002... These can be renamed, have their own description, scene and take.

The Project Temp Folder can have 1 level of subfolders (I created two for this example), and the items can be moved between them.

The Project Temp Folder can be saved separately and loaded into a new or existing project.
