is there any way to close windows without pressing the x button?

I would like to speed up my editing and going to the x button every time wastes time, is there a way to close it from the keyboard?

@Federico-Alastra You could drag it to a location, use the ctrl key & it will 'dock', I never close it, I just switch tabs

Press Alt+F4 to close the active window. It should work in any Windows application.

Alt+F4 exits the application (Vegas), I don't think that's the question.

I also prefer the way @Former user describes, docking those windows and just switch tabs. Only there seems to be a limit of dockable windows.

"Select the open app or window you want to close to make it the active window, and press the Alt + F4 keys."

No, Alt+F4 closes the active window. (If the application is the active window, it will close it.)

Test it for yourself.

  1. Open Vegas
  2. Open a Window, such as Media FX.
  3. Press Alt+F4

(I actually tested before I posted....)

Not working at my Vegas, as soon as I attached an FX and want to close the active FX window through Alt+F4, it closes Vegas (after asking to save the changes). Is this OS dependable, I'm using W11?

@Federico-Alastra

I'm not sure it's quicker than clicking on the 'x', but ALT-SHIFT-F4 closes the Video Event FX window.

+1 Indeed, that works.

Also according keyboard shortcuts help Alt+F4 only closes/exits Vegas.

I just remember that there is also a shortcut to prevent the FXWindow to open at all while dragging an FXpreset to an event, so no need to close it manually. Just press CTRL+SHIFT while dragging an FXpreset from VideoFX to an event.

Of course this is only handy when no adjustments are needed.
