Live Streaming

In doing searches online, I have found the term "Vegas Stream" used in a few places. Is Vegas offering a live streaming version of their software? The references I have seen indicate that it has the capability to tie into a number of online services such as Microsoft Teams, YouTube Live, FaceBook Live, Twitch, etc. So, I am curious as to how I can ahold of a copy even if it is in Beta Test, I would love to help out with that to see if it will do what we are needing to do long term. But, I can't find it anywhere on the Vegas website. From what I've read, it looks like a competitor to OBS which is somewhat limited for what we'd like to do. Plus, the encoder in OBS has a lot of issues whereas Vegas has been doing this for a very long time and seems like they should be a good alternative. Anyhow, any info would be appreciated.

A "stream" can be either:

An encoded track muxed in a media file: "I encoded an AAC audio stream with my h264 video stream.

-- or --

A transmission protocol used in broadcast or internet electronic delivery: "I got a 24Mbps stream from Vimeo, but only 14 Mbps from Youtube."

Vegas does not live-stream video; it is a nonlinear editor / encoder for static media files, which you could then upload to streaming server, or play on you local equipment. Hope this clears it up for you.

VEGAS Stream has been "a work in progress". See if this is of help.

Didn't even know about that.

Meanwhile, for your own events and such, Youtube has it all figured out for you.

vkmast - That document is the first one I came across in my searches. There are other references to it out there as well. It would be nice to see them bring solid live streaming (encoding) capability to the platform.

Musicvid - I'm already very familiar with the things you've stated. I didn't make my post looking for how to LiveStream or what a stream vs encoder is. I made it looking for any information on the "Vegas Stream" software I mentioned and that vkmast so kindly referenced. I already have a number of channels, some with over 5,000 subscribers, and am currently running multi-camera configurations for some which is what "Vegas Stream" supposedly will do per statements in the document vkmast referenced. So, the reference you made to "Youtube has it all figured out for you" isn't quite what I need. Thanks

@Matthew-Marcotte

That's OK, Matthew. The vast majority of our questions are from first-time users, who rarely have a complete understanding of what technology is available, or even what they are looking for.

Since you just joined the forum today, and this is your first thread, my natural instinct was that you fit that category, and I answered the same as I would to any novice editor looking for entry level solutions. Your mention of OBS, a screen capture utility, didn't trigger anything to prompt me to think otherwise, although I readily admit I knew nothing about the title to which you referred. If I erred in my reply, it was on the side of respect.

Take no offense; none was intended, and I'm certain you will be a valued contributor here with your vast experience. That said, welcome to the forums. I've been here (and SCS) for nearly two decades, and I learn something new from my peers and colleagues here almost every day. I hope you may enjoy the same gratification as time progresses.
