MAGIX DROPPING SUPORT FOR MOV????

Ruby888 wrote on 12/1/2020, 4:17 PM

Last biuld of Vegas Movie Studio will not suoport MOV anymore, this is what Magix sent me. MOV looks like its going to be toast with Magix products.

Hello,

Thank you for your message. You can find any previous builds of the program for download here: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-where-can-i-download-vegas-pro-and-other-vegas-software--104782/

MOV is basically a file shell that may contain one video stream and one audio stream.  In order to be able to open an MOV, the software needs to support the MOV format (which it does) -AND- the format of the video and audio streams within the MOV shell also need to be supported formats of the software.  If a
user attempts to open an MOV that contains an unsupported video stream, they may only see the audio import to the timeline without the video.  There are a few reasons why this might occur.  If there are licensing issues with a certain format of video or audio stream, then we are not able to support that
format. DIVIX is an example of this.

You could use a free program such as handbrake to re-encode the file so that it is a supported format and then import it into the Vegas program.

Best regards,

MAGIX Software GmbH

They forgot to tell you that the Legacy Quicktime 7 (MOV) 32 bit encoder is still available in "Deprecated Features" in your Preferences.

And no, MOV is still, and will continue to be supported. You're reading way too much into the message. MOV is a wrappper, and they are telling you only that certain codec formats  may or may not be supported in the wrapper by Vegas.

the software needs to support the MOV format (which it does)

Simply put, we are not removing support for .mov wrapped files.

Yes I know where it is, "Depreciated Features" the last version does NOT work with MOV. Its not just me, anyone that has the last version of MS 17 will not be able to use MOV no mater what you do.

Please post your threads on the Movie Studio Forum, not the Pro forum, thanks!

The thread moved.

And as @Musicvid and Support say, it depends.

Thanks, but you know when something is under Deprecated Features you know its on the chopping block, here is a file I am trying to open

from Productioncrate.com piles of MOV there.

The problem is that VMS17 Plat Build 204 has broken the use of quicktime.

My experience is that mov files that VMS 17 Platinum can open using "so4compoundplug.dll" still open with Build 204. But mov files that need "qt7plug.dll" don't open even if the QT plugin is enabled in deprecated features. Something seems to have got broken between builds 179 and 204. Vegas haven't commented so we don't know if it will get fixed.

@VEGASDerek Please, any chance of getting this fixed?

Don't hold your breath. Magix took over a week to respond to my question and they didn't seem to think it was a problem. I just tied something, MP4 files converted to MOV will work in MS17. MOV files that won't work have to be converted to MP4. Its a mess. Just image if this heppened to Vegas Pro.

Okay a possible solution, BUT all files get labeled QuickTime, any ideas? This was from Productioncrate.

Properties and change Opens With to Quicktime Player, and try to re-import and tell us if that makes a difference?

Unfortunately it doesn't work for my problem 'mov' files. Pity.

Do you have QuickTime installed?

Yes, and it worked in Build 179. It's Build 204 that has stuffed it up. 🙁

I'm stuck here as well. Build 204.. and no matter what I cannot get .mov to open

It hasn't been fixed as yet but my understanding is it is being looked into.
