Movie Studio 16 AAC/MC codec fail when logged in as administrator

Robert-Starling wrote on 4/9/2020, 4:43 PM

I have Vegas Magix Movie Studio 16 Platinum, but this problem started with a previous version - 14. I've been using this software for many years, since version 7. All of a sudden (perhaps after a Windows update? - not sure) I get an error message that says AAC/MC has failed. Now I can't import many .mp4 video files (some are ok) but there's no problem importing other file types like .avi and .mov, etc. And I can't render an .mp4 file but I can render other file types. I've been emailing Magix Customer Support back and forth for weeks, and the only advice I get is to sign in as Administrator, which I've done every way possible (including the hidden Windows administrator) without any success. Can you help me? I'm using windows 10 on an MSI laptop. Working fine till about 2 months ago.

Do you mean AVC/MVC?. Please post a screen shot of the exact error.

Have you tried resetting?

I haven't tried re-setting. Here is the error msg:

Apparently this has something to do with the AAC MC Encoder, whatever that is.

You might check p.10 and 11 here just in case.

Thank you, but those items were for Vegas Pro. Would it be the same for Movie Studio 16 Platinum? When I registered the program there were no instructions about separate activation for codecs. This error suddenly appeared when I was using ver. 14 after many months of successful usage. I bought ver. 16 in an effort to leave the problem behind, but it continued with the new version. I've been dealing with workarounds for over two months now, and it's very frustrating. I've been emailing back and forth with Tech Spport but so far nothing has worked. Any other ideas?

Yes.

Ah, that looks likes like the MainConcept audio encoder. It "may" be trying to self register. Are you connected to the internet when you try to use it?

A last resort would be a reinstallation.

Yes, I'm always connected to the web. And I have re-installed it. The Magix tech support person said to re-install it using the Window hidden Administrator log-in as the user. I did all of that, and the error message still pops up. Even after deleting the "installation.ini" configuration file. Still no joy. I've been wrestling with this for about two months and it's very frustrating. I've seen comments on the web where others have had this or similar problems. Any other thoughts are most welcome.

@Robert-Starling Do you have a sample problem mp4 file that you could upload somewhere so we could download and try?
