MS17 Platinum GUI scaling probems on 4k screen

Chris_Huelsbeck wrote on 5/3/2020, 3:19 AM

Compared to the previous version, MS17 doesn't seem to correctly scale GUI elements according to the Windows Display Scale and layout setting. On my 4k screen I usually set the scaling to 150%, so I don't have to work with a magnifying glass... right now a lot of the GUI elements don't seem to scale at all and in some window layouts (plugins for example), you can't reach certain parameters because they're cut off. This all worked in MS16... the only workaround right now seems to be to switch to 1080p...

Are your Windows High DPI settings to start the program with right?

Thanks j-v for reading... could you clarify? I have not messed with any settings, only noticed that things in terms of the scaling behave different between the 2 versions... I found the behavior of MS16 as expected and MS17 not (and in fact it seems broken there)... ;)

Ok j-v gave me something to try and it has definitely improved things... when I changed the High DPI setting in the properties to "System (Enhanced)" the gui looks better for the most part (pull-down menus are still tiny)...

You can alter your settings at the Windows settings for starting that program. Try out those settings if it helps maybe. You reach them by rightclicking on the startbutton on your desktop and than choose there for the comptability options, see my Dutch interface of the options

Note "What's new in version 17: "The High DPI mode is now defaulted to on for Movie Studio Platinum 17"

Definitely helped, thanks... however I think there is definitely room for improvement, so if the dev team reads this, please look into this and make scaling work better by default (the last version of MS did work better with the scaling right out of the gate)!

Well, it doesn't work correctly... ;) j-v's suggestion improved things for me though...

Set your screen resolution to 1920x1080 for normal editing and previewing. You might like it.
