Random dumb questions

OhMyGosh wrote on 2/27/2022, 12:29 PM

Haven't been here for quite a while, so I know I'm late to the party. Yes I've looked at other threads, but I was unable to find the answers I was looking for. Here is a litany of some of the questions I was hoping to get answered.

1. Is VPro 19 a good and stable program? I see it has had more bugs than when I went to Panama in the Summer! :0 I currently have VPro 14 and was wondering if now is the time to upgrade and if there would be noticeable improvements and features. Yes I've read the descriptions, but was wondering more in real world.

2. I also have MSP16 for quick projects. I never understood what happened there, but I got the gist there were a lot of angry people when they tried to upgrade. Apparently it was a different program than what we were used to and not as good? Is MSP16 as high as you can go without getting that other version?

3. There seems to be a great offer from NewBlue if you have Magix Movie Studio 2022 Platinum. Is there any way to get that if you don't have that program? Is it true that you would be able to use it with VPro 19 as well?

Thanks in advance for any help and clarity you are willing to provide. Please feel free to suggest any ideas you may have as to what you feel is a good course for me. Thank you, Cin

@OhMyGosh Hi,

3. - The upgrade of Magix + TotalFX, Yes all the NewBlue effects that come in TotalFX work in Vegas, i only have V19 so can't say about V14, TotalFX/NewBlue are OFX plugins so will work in any program that supports that, they all show in HitFilm Pro, Have you read the other post below this one https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/magix-upgrade-inc-newblue-total-fx-for-41-all-work-in-vegas-19--134210/

2. Version 17 was the last version of the VEGAS Movie Studio product line. All Movie Studio versions after that are MAGIX products based on MAGIX's Movie Edit Pro (now to be renamed as Movie Studio). Support for that MAGIX product is available at https://www.magix.info/us/video-forum/

3. You should be able upgrade your VEGAS Movie Studio Platinum to MS 2022 P to get TotalFX. The offer ends today, so be quick. Please read the thread @Former user gave the link to.

Thank you Gid for the information and link, they were helpful.

It's nice to see you are still here helping people vkmast! Thank you. So if I understand you two correctly, I could upgrade my VMS16 to 17, but couldn't get the NewBlue offer? But if I upgrade to MS 2022 P I will lose my beloved VMS16/17?

@OhMyGosh

You don't lose anything. You can keep your VMSP 16 installed and use it as before.

Re VMSP 17. It's not available from MAGIX directly any more.

Note the compatibility according to https://newbluefx.com/products/totalfx/

So you need VEGAS Pro 19 if you don't want to use any of the MAGIX products for TotalFX.(I don't)

VEGAS Edit 19 is VEGAS Pro without extra features that you may not need. Your VP 14 S/N should be valid for the upgrade pricing. You should test with the trial first to see if your PC meets the requirements. The upgrade offers are renewed about every two weeks or so. Note that the TotalFX offer may not be renewed.

Great to see you back, Cin!

Musicvid!! Damn, you must own this place by now! ;) Glad to see you are still kicking. :) Life has been weird, but I guess it is for most. I thought I would get back into doing some videos to help ground me and help some people out. I guess I picked the right time as it was the last day for that sale from NewBlue. I don't really have much of their stuff, but for that price how could I say no!?

vkmast, I see how it works now. I thought it would install over the top of my MSP16 without asking, but they sent me a link to download it and a separate one for the FX7. I just clicked on the one for the FX7 and now I should have the best of both worlds! Thanks again. Cin

PS. Warning, now that I'll be doing more editing, more stupid questions are sure to follow!! ;0

@OhMyGosh stupid? As a long-time (15 years!) member of these forums you should know that there are no stupid questions. It's OK as long as you're not asking anything about MS 2022 P since that is a MAGIX product and supported at https://www.magix.info/us/video-forum/ (as I said earlier) but not here. 🙃

I think Vegas 19 is a big upgrade from 14. You get modern GPU decoding and encoding, built-in LUT filter (and color grading panel that supports input and output LUTs), support for modern file formats (various flavors of AVC and HEVC), native ProRes and more. Stability has much improved since the rocky days of 15 in my experience. If you need stock music or footage consider one of the 365 subscription options- it may be cheaper than a separate license.

Lol vkmast, apparently you don't remember some of my questions!! ;0 I like to read some of the posts here to help me try and learn, but some of you guys are soooo smart that it makes every question I have feel and seem stupid! I would hope and assume that Sony/Magix at least gives all you gurus all their products for free for all the support and help that you provide so many. :)

Thank you Rodger, that's the input I was looking for. I figured that there had to be some noticeable improvement between 14 and 19. I think I might as well update it just for the heck of it. Didn't really seem like it was that expensive. Thank you. Cin
