Unexpected Rippling Behaviour

EricLNZ wrote on 4/30/2020, 11:25 PM

This applies to VMS17 Plat and VMS16 Plat. It may also affect earlier versions. To me it's a nasty bug, but if by design it's strange unexpected behaviour.

To illustrate here is an example timeline

With Rippling On (All tracks etc) delete the red item, and the following is what I expect with the yellow item moving along to fill in the gap area as vacated by the red item

But instead you get the following where the green item moves right along to meet the blue, and the second yellow and grey now sit on top of the white and first yellow

It appears VMS ignores that there are Events on the lower track? It caused me a timeline mess this afternoon!

If you included the vf we could test it.

@FayFen The forum doesn't take vf files, unless it's changed recently. I'm happy to post it to Google Drive but it was done in VMSPlat 17 and I suspect you are still on 16. I used Media Generators solid colour so it's easy to reproduce. I'll do another in VMSPlat 16 later.

It's a previously reported issue and should probably be fixed in the next build.

Since the "new event delete ripple logic" was introduced many years ago I couldn't find what the new mode does better but at the same time it introduced some issues which rather annoyed me, like moving deleting/events it shouldn't or moving adjacent left sided markers it should not move.
But I was said all this is expected behaviour so meanwhile I always turn off the "new event delete ripple logic" in internal preferences.

While this isn't exactly the issue shown above it may be a reminder there are two choices for the ripple logic which may help in other, similar cases.

Thanks @Marco. 👍

Gee thanks @Marco. you're an encyclopedia of information. It fixed the problem. I wonder what else there is in Internal Preferences that needs fiddling with!
