Unusual CPU Usage/System Out of Memory

Hello,

Today I went to edit a video and when I went to render it, I got an error saying my system was out of memory. Long story short, I managed to fix that error message, however, I went to my Task Manager and the CPU usage is at 100%. I don't recall it ever being that high and I've heard conflicting information stating if that's a good thing or whether it's a bad thing. My PC specs are

OS: Windows 8.1 Pro

Processor: Intel (R) Core(TM) i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz

Ram: 16.0 GB

System type: 64 Bit

What version of Vegas are you using? Editing on a laptop or desktop? I find that 16GB is ok on a laptop when I edit audio slideshows or transcode my video clips to Cineform or XVAC, but for serious video editing minimum of 24/32GB RAM is preferred.

What kinds of video files are they? Compressed native? Intermediates? Too little info here to really discuss further...

I'm running Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11.0. I'm also running it on a desktop. That may be the problem right there. My MB has the potential for 64GB of Ram, but I've just never upgraded it.

The files themselves are in MP4 format, and I'm attempting to render them in either MP4 or WMV. Those are normally my go to's. Thank you for the response. I'll take a look at upgrading my RAM see if that's the issue.

Check your hard disk space.

When finished editing, but before rendering, save and close your project, then reopen.

which is the last 32-bit only version of the MSPs. With only 32-bit support, it is limited to addressing 2GB of RAM. The late builds of SVMSP 11 (last one was #322) "can address up to 4 GB of memory when running on a 64-bit version of Windows." Instead of upgrading your RAM you might need to take a look at upgrading your MSP. You might also read this tip.
