VEGAS Pro 18 Update 4 (Build 482) - General Discussion

Problem Solved - Build 482 seems to be working flawlessly, now. When 1st installed my Dynamic Ram Preview (under Options/Preferences/Video) was set to 8000mb. Even my 3080 card didn't like that very much. I set it to 1200 and everything works great. I may try adjusting that while I monitor the NVIDIA optimization software to come up with an optimum setting for this. I will let you know (that will be a project for tomorrow, after my project is edited).

How often do you use that task by clicking "Shift+M"?

This build hasn't yet crashed and I"ve been using it since yesterday. IT'S CRAZY!, but having just said that... let the white screens of death begin

Same here. Quite substantial improvement. Unstable product is real productivity killer. Before started using I reseted all settings to defaults. Mainly working with 1080p stuff.

Updated everything: my NVidia GTX 1660 driver, and this new version of Vegas Pro 18-482. Still not seeing the title names of various files in the PROJECT MEDIA window. Some title names show, some don't (for example: some .WAVs show, some don't). I can't isolate what's causing it by file type or anything. It's random as far as I can tell.

BTW -- this only happens in the Project Media window when selecting the view as DETAILS. The filenames do show up in LIST and THUMBNAIL view. But I need to see specific detailed information!!

@Glenn-C Perhaps the update changed the column order of the details layout. There are 2 different columns, one labeled "Name" which is the clip file-name. The other is labeled "Title" and comes from the title field of the Widows file-property tab which many apps do not fill in. I think at some point I had to grab and drag the top of the name column to the left to bring it into view.

Holy God, that was it! I've never seen something so dumb being accidentally implemented. I had to right-click a column, go to VIEW, and checkmark "Name", then like you said, drag it all the way left, as it should be. Ridiculous but thanks for helping!

It wasn't like that for me after the update - everything was in order - as always.
Isn't it possible that this happened to you accidentally and that Vegas - as desired - then kept it that way?

When I readjusted it for reasons of interest - as described by you - and unchecked the "Name" column, the "Name" column was not displayed the next time I entered. I had to select it again, and because it was then at the last position in the table, I had to drag it with the mouse to the first position.

Just a guess - because on my PC rarely changes something - without my intervention.

VEGAS Pro 18 Update 4 (Build 482) have some bug it removed NVENC from HEVC rendering profiles, even if you set it manually in IO to use just HEVC support and remove AVC it showing media some green or inverted. Weird I needed to switch back to the previous version. You cannot have enabled AVC and HEVC decoding like before. If is enabled AVC and HEVC allows rendering just AVC. Disable AVC use only HEVC for NVENC and many media turn green or inverted even it renders inverted...

Has anyone tried multi-camera editing on the timeline with the 482 update? I am doing a project with 3 cameras (video streams) synchronized and in multi-camera mode. camera 2 shows a black screen when attempting to views on the timeline. Cameras 1 and 3 are just fine. When I render, all 3 cameras are seen with no problems. This makes it near impossible to edit. I have never had this problem before (been using Vegas since version 10). Any ideas?

@David-Jodon for a specific issue, it's better to start a new thread.

I can't render anything out of V18 anymore without errors and artefacts.
In tried all the old tricks, GPU off, RAM to 0, ( which worked before ).
I'm not happy about that, as I can't open that project in V17. Cost me several hors of work already.

@Mindmatter “as I can't open that project in V17

You could try Ctrl-A, in your VP18 project, then paste all into an empty VP17 project.

Describe more in detail about 'can't render anything'? is it:

  1. File> Render as, and then stuck, render dialog box not appear
  2. The render can run, but in the middle you are having freeze
  3. The render successful until the end, but you are having artefact in the render result. (show us still frame)

Hi Set
I guess I should heve been more precise. The render process is OK, but the results have artefacts, specifically in more complex layered projects. The strangest thing is now that if I go through the places on the timeline frame by frame where the artifacts happen in the render, i can actually see them in treal time. At some frames, pngs , texts or layers become entangled and chaotic, shifting or doubling, but just at that very frame on certain places on the timeline.. Nothing special happens in those frames, they are within continous events, nothing gets added or FXed.
It also doesn't occur when I go backwards, only forwards in the frames. I guess the new built has trouble mixing UHD and HD footage, as that seems to be the recurring element

@Mindmatter I used to see something like what you describe but it only occurred sporadically starting about half way through longer projects when crossing clip boundaries. Would get it on footage from an HD 422 camera that does 10-minute, 50 mbps, 2gb clip splits. The artifacts were random frames from earlier in the clip. I could make it go away if I dropped markers near the problem area and played it through once or twice before rendering. Wonder if it's a buffer corruption or over-run thing that's been lurking for some time.

First in update 482 I lost my preview monitor screen, only black and then a crash.
I fooled around with File I/O, legacy avc setting and found, IF CHECKED, my preview monitor will again work but  my Nvidia device to render is missing.  So now my only solution is WHEN EDITING CHECK legacy avc, to get preview screen.
If you want to RENDER WITH NVIDIA, UNCHECK legacy avc to find NVDEC
I have never had trouble with an update till 482.  It is too much trouble.  I might revert back to 434.
